Given that this is the situation, what would you do?

Would you be willing to take Ted Ginn Jr. with our #10 overall pick? If not who do you take?

I think Ginn could provide us with a dangerous #2 WR. Our passing attack would be much more dangerous than last year, assuming Matt Schaub is a competent QB.

Not really ... he is projected to go to the Vikings at 7. He was explosive as any receiver in the NCAA these last few years. IMO he is a great receiver. His injury was because his teamates gang tackled him so you shouldn't be worried about reoccuring injuries.

Who is projecting him to go to Minny at #7? Just because he was slotted there in Mel Kiper's (LOL) mock draft doesn't mean Childress is targeting him. I have read that Childress isn't a guy who drafts wideouts in Round 1, although I'm not sure how much truth that statement pertains. Personally I think they may go Jamaal Anderson or Gaines Adams in round 1, that is if either are even available. A pass rush is absolutely crucial in the Cover 2 scheme they implement and quite frankly their DEs weren't exactly lighting the league on fire this past season.

As for Ginn, I doubt he goes in the top 15, and very possibly not even top 20. He was never that good of a receiver in college, has mediocre hands, and doesn't run good routes. Not to mention he is a sub-par blocker who can struggle against the jam. Who knows though? A team could always fall in love with is 40 time and overdraft him.

If you are considering drafting a WR at the 10th overall pick, I think Robert Meachem or Dwayne Bowe would be far better selections.
 
I'd be more willing to take Amobi Okoye or Leon Hall in this scenario. Ginn wouldn'tbe a bad pick for US if we traded down with say Green Bay at 16 and depending on whose on the board then.

Ginn could fit what Kubiak might like in that he could be our #2 receiver and be on special teams receiving. He's like Jerome Mathis but a slightly better receiver imo. lol

Speaking of which, is Mathis ever going to develop into a receiver we actually use in our offense?...
 
That leaves

Amobi Okoye, A Branch, A Carriker, Reggie Nelson, Leon Hall, D Revis, and M Lynch. So we still have plenty of options.

Mel Kiper has him there as you said. Here is another site: http://football.about.com/cs/nfldraft/a/bl_mockdraft.htm. That really doesn't matter though. I am just going off what I see...I use some projections sometimes to see how people have been moving up and down.

I see nothing wrong with taking him at 10. He is a great player. He scores touchdowns. Ginn is like young, lean Steve Smith.

I don't beleive the "We dont draft THIS position in the first round" talk. The Vikings receivers are terrible and it is not wrong to think they will make a move on a receiver at their spot. Either way he is still valuable and taking him at 10 should not be out of the question.

It would be wise to be open minded with our new offense.

i doubt it to be honest. it seemed kubiak wanted to keep people that had more than one demension....ie. Mathis is flirting with getting released i think. that's why the ginn pick may not be so bad (later in the first lol). I'd hate to see mathis go...just like all of us i presume because he's utterly brilliant at times. pro bowl return man rookie season...i saw just how bad we missed him during the oakland game when he almost took it to the house. I think if mathis was released there would be a LOT of angry texan fans....he's not very expensive so i see no point in getting rid of him.

we just need him to get and stay healthy!!!!!!

Good point. If he would just work on becoming a complete receiver, he'd make a lot of money in the future...

I always thought that he ran pretty precise routes. He is so quick it helps in his route running. He takes great angles especially after he gets the ball.

I agree he needs to add a little more muscle but his size isn't too bad 6'0 175.

His yards after catch ability is unmatched at his position in this draft.
 
I would be alittle upset if we took Ginn at #10. I think we could trade down and draft Meachem or Bowe; both of whom I find to be less risk.

Exactly what similarities do you see between the two? They are both undersized and that's about it. They have different styles. Steve Smith is quick to break from cuts, a good route runner, has good hands, and is pretty physical, especially for a guy his size. Ginn is the type of guy who will try and beat you purely with his speed, and he won't go and lay out a DB trying to make a block for his RB.

Maybe it is a possibility, I don't know. It was just something I had read and I don't know how much truth it holds.
