be the gm of the texans, your on the clock...

your sticking with the 8th pick in the draft
the previous 7 picks were:
1.Jamarcus Russell
2.Calvin Johnson
3.Adrian Peterson
4.Gaines Adams
5.Joe Thomas
6.Alan Branch
7.Brady Quinn

Now its between three guys for that 8th pick...who are they? 400+ players to choose from, which lucky three could be in a texans uni?

To the thread starter...edit the message ad put something like "trading down is not an option"...makes the thread even better...

but back to my picks...

1. Landry, LaRon S LSU
2. Anderson, Jammal DE Arkansas
3. Okoye, Amobi DT Louisville

since i made this thread ill join in on the fun...

8a.Amobi Okoye -DT-Louisville
8b.LaRon Landry-FS-LSU
8c.Leon Hall-CB-Michigan

Lot of talk like this over in the college and draft forum.

personally my mock of the top 7 would look differently, particularly 4,5,6,7 picks...but that's what makes these fun...they're all different.

My 3 players that I think the Texans would look at the closest would be Laron Landry, Amobi Okoye, and Jamaal Anderson (levi brown and leon hall would be closely behind)

I would love if the draft were to happen like this so we could take Laron Landry!! easy choice imo. all good players though. but we gotta address the secondary

Levi Brown

Leon Hall

LaRon Landry

just fyi-

a certain pay site has Levi going #5 to Arizona, Landry going #7 to the Vikings & Hall #8 to the Texans (looked this up after I made my picks). players you have off the board are Alan Branch & Adrien Peterson- still available.

also this post should be under the draft thread :lightning:

laron landry
levi brown
trade w/pats for their two 1st rdr's

ok mine would be Laron Landry bc im tired of spending all our 1st rounders well most of them on the DL. Oh and the trade with the pats will never happen. They are in a perfect position to pick up 2 great players rather than just one.

I'm going to have to go with:
1. LaRon Landry, FS, LSU
2. Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
3. Leon Hall, CB, Michigan

Our secondary really needs some playmakers.

Levi Brown
Laron Landry
Leon Hall

Minnesota won't take Quinn after taking Jackson last year. They might trade that spot away if Quinn is there and a good offer is on the table from a team like Carolina.

fyi,

on another paid mock draft site they have Landry going #6, Hall #7 & you guessed it Brown to the Texans @ #8

so in whatever order you want them here they are your three top choices @ #8. all of them have Peterson slipping on by by to Buffalo. or do I smell a trade down

who would still be available @ #12 (Texans) if Buffalo did trade up to get Peterson?

Branch
Nelson
Carriker

plus the Texans would pick-up the Bills 3rd. rd. pick

thoughts on that possiblity :lightbulb:

humm interesting. Im not sure who we would address at 12 but it should be BPA. Who else had been taken 1-12 that way I could tell you who I would get

3 elements to consider, 1)who is the best player on the board 2)what position has depth in later rounds (also some people feel certain positions are not worth a #8 pick, i.e. FS, DT) 3)team needs

#2 rules out Laundry, Ginn, Okoye

So, this picks to me comes down to DE Anderson or CB Hall; Pass rush versus coverge. Yes Fagins is better suited as a nickel, and last years nickel back, McCleon is a UFA but still that need could be adressed later. Considering how little a pass rush the Texans had, and I do not feel the Texans have a lot of confidence in Weaver, Babin, or Kalu as pass rushers. Plus Hall's stock has risen a lot with his proday and the combine, which I don't put really buy. So with the eighth pick of the draft the Houston Texans selecet...

DE Jamal Anderson, Arkansas

Anderson is not a bad pick.

8. *Jamaal Anderson DE 6-5, 280 Arkansas
9. Amobi Okoye DT 6-0, 287 Louisville <>
10. Levi Brown OT 6-5, 325 Penn State
11. Patrick Willis LB 6-2, 240 Mississippi
12. *Alan Branch DT 6-6, 330 Michigan
13. Adam Carriker DE 6-5, 290 Nebraska
14. *Chris Houston CB 5-10, 180 Arkansas
15. *Ted Ginn WR 6-0, 180 Ohio State (X)
16. *gone* Leon Hall CB 5-11,195 Michigan *gone*
17. *Reggie Nelson FS 6-1, 195 Florida

Marshawn is noticable absent here BTW. Got two prime DTs , one DT/DE and Chriss Houston still on the board. I doubt Brown gets by Atlanta or Miami. Willis is a true Mike which would allow an upgrade in tallent to the Will with a Demeco move.

I'd be happy with just about every body on GBN's list except Ginn Jr. They want speed, I'd just as soon them take Reevis and move down again than take Ginn Jr. No gambles please with the first round pick. I don't wanna hear Ginn Jr. ran...I wanna see Ginn Jr. run. I dunno if Reevis can play the slot and be a tweener for us, but the guy has return skills. His pro day is up at GBN.

1) If I stay at 8, I take, in this order, Okoye, Nelson, or Houston.

2) Trade down to a 10-15 pick for an extra pick & select, in this order, Nelson, Houston, or Willis.

3) Trade down to a 20-30 pick for extra picks & select, in this order, Revis, Lynch, Posluszny, Staley, or Timmons.

all very interesting, some guys taking it very seriously. i just put up a basic mock draft does it really matter if brady quinn goes two or seven, cause those 7 guys i have really deserve to be taken in the top 7 whether thats really mixed up within the 7 picks or like that. but w/e all in good fun.

i really like the talks of trading down, grab a wr like dwayne bowe or ginn and really bolster on the other side of AJ. and trading with the pats would be ideal, but the pats are smarter then that.

Top 3: LaRon Landry, Amobi Okoye, or Levi Brown.

Assuming Brady Quinn, Adrian Peterson, JaMarcuss Russell, Joe Thomas, and Calvin Johnson are gone.

Johnson (wishful thinking)
Quinn - although drafting Quinn sort of gets us nowhere this year
Okoye - can he be the same threat in the NFL he was in college?
Landry - instant impact at FS

What about moving down to get Nelson around 20-22? IMO, Nelson is a bigger playmaker than Landry.

Eh, maybe. I'd say that Nelson had one great year (51 TKLS 6 INTS). He had 46 TKLS and 1 INT the year before. I know he injured his knee that year but it was toward the end of the season. He also had 4 sacks over his 2 year football career at Florida. He only played 2 years and he had one good year. It's hard to judge if he is more of a playmaker if I have only seen him do it one year. He had 1 forced fumble as well.(http://www.gatorzone.com/football/bios.php?year=2006&player_id=71)

Landry however, had 80 tackles 2 INTs his freshman year, 92 tackles 4 INTs his sophomore year, 69 tackles and 3 INTs his junior year, 74 tackles and 3 INTs his senior year. He also recorded 6 sacks over his 4 years. We've all seen the videos of his sacks on the Bama QBs. Landry also had 2 forced fumbles. http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&KEY=&ATCLID=177244&SPID=2164&SPSID=27813.

IMO Landry has been more of a consistent playmaker. Nelson may have made more plays last year...but Landry has been making plays since 2003.

true that true that.
