Ranking the OT's

3. Tony Ugoh, Arkansas

Positives: Size (6-5-plus, 301 pounds), strength and quickness. ... Good footwork and agility. ... Able to come out of his stance quickly and gain favorable position against speedy defensive ends. ... Has enough power and balance to maintain his ground against a bull rush.

Negatives: Needs to be more aggressive. ... Must develop more answers to a speed rusher's counter moves and remain more persistent in holding off the second effort of a bull rusher. ... Suffered a pulled quadriceps while running the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, and, as a result, was unable to participate in Arkansas' Pro Day on March 13.

negative would be for us playing freeny and his speed against the guy..(if this guy was around later in the draft), obviously I haven't seen him play and going on this scouting report ... anyone else watched him play?

for me it'd look something like

1: joe thomas
2: levi brown
3: joe staley
4: marshall yanda
5: tony ugoh

I'm thinking for the Texans and ZBS:

1: Joe Thomas
2: Joe Staley
3: Tony Ugoh
4: Levi Brown
5: Marshall Yanda

Unless they move up, you can forget JT. Well with Staley or Ugoh on the left, you can pretty much kiss off a balanced rushing attack. They won't be able to run left. Ugoh isn't ready and Staley's not going to push anyone any where.

Joe Staley

Negatives: Needs to get stronger. ... Must work on bending knees more often to gain better leverage. ... Limited exposure to top-level opponents.

Bust factor isn't as high with Staley for sure. But that there thingy is a reach.

staley is a prototypical left tackle. he's a lot like joe thomas, really. just needs more work. those negatives don't really mean much, because he's a lot more raw compared to guys like thomas. he's obviously expected to improve.

Here's the Footballs Future write-up:
Footballs Future Joe Staley

This quote is from the Senior Bowl blog on Football Futures:
"Staley, Kalil, and Blaylock improve draft stock
NFL.com analyst Pat Kirwan details some offensive linemen making an impact during Senior Bowl week. He was especially impressed with Joe Staley, Justin Blalock, and Ryan Kalil.

Kirwan on Staley -
As I walked towards him he reminded me of a young Jon Runyan -- a big athlete with a nasty streak ... he will be a 10-year starter in this league. Staley's techniques are good and his competitive nature is better."

I like everything I've read about this guy, but I have to admit, I have never seen him play. One thing I do like is the "Nasty Streak" comment. I always look for the intangibles.

Yeah well I caught the act scouting the RB phenom...Ho Hum. He certainly lifts better than Wand, that's for sure. All in all I take Brown eight and be done with it.

he will be a 10-year starter in this league

As Kastranostra points out the big IF is if he can continue to improve. That there thingy is a best guess on Staley by Kirwan. No differnt than mine on Brown. Except Brown I know for a fact he can start and play on the right side day one at a better level than anything else we curently have. . And I KNOW he's going to be there with the eight. You can't say the same things about Joe Thomas light...er JT maybe. He might be able to run block the left side. There is no might with Levi on that one.
