experts dissing AJ

I didn't see where they called him a bust. They just said that we should have taken Kevin Williams instead.

I don't see how he is a bust. He is a player that lived up to his hype and he has done it on a bad team.

He said AJ was a "slight bust at the three", in other words he said he was overrated as a top 3 pick but still rated him #10 overall, and that's not small praise. Misleading statement as he should have said "3 was slightly high" for AJ.
In each of AJs first 2 years I would have been comfortable rating him top 3
out of his Draft, but after each of the last 2 don't feel the same way. He may be out best offensive football player, but everything is relative.
AJ is still one of the leagues physical freaks, but question marks remain, especisly about his hands and his general consistancy.

I didn't take what was said as "dissing AJ", but nevertheless, I agree with Rocky that this was the best decision ever made by this franchise and wouldn't have changed it...

I like how he called Leftwich a "bright young passer".

I told him to put the bong down before writing next time.

It's also odd to see Oakland at the bottom of that list. Remember when they were good?

scary isn't it. they are representing the AFC in the superbowl less than 5 years ago, perenial playoff team, and are now the running joke of the league. it can happen fast in the NFL..luckily you can turn it around fast too..it also speaks volumes on how important a team's handling of the QB position is.

hopefully we turn it around fast

I wrote the guy and told him I thought his thoughts were off the mark..maybe not in that language but he responded

"NOW he's not a bust. He was at the time the piece was written. We redo the piece every year, and he most certainly won't be a bust when it comes out this April.

Andre Johnson is the best decision this franchise has ever made...PERIOD
That still doean't make him the best receiver in the league. He's good, but by no means is he great. Maybe a new QB would make the difference, but I still see him drop passes and sometimes not really go for the ball.

Be very very careful what you say about AJ, :shoot:..he is still under the message board player protection program.

BTW..Demeco is already challenging for the best ' Texan decision on draft day award '.

:coffee:

Look at his opinion of the 02 draft:

How the Draft Should've Gone:
S Ed Reed (1st), Miami

Carr hasn't been a be-all-end-all player so far, but he it's still too early to give up on him. It's tempting to jump on a Julius Peppers or Dwight Freeney, but the Texans could've used a sheriff in the secondary

This guy is a joke.:joker: Take Ed Reed with the #1 pick over J.Peppers?

Wiliis MaGahee at #2 ??? He is a slightly above average back that is also arguably a cancer in the clubhouse.

I also like the fact that he gave props to Troy Palomalu for being a immediate Pro Bowler... So was Andre!!

And my vote is for Demeco as best desicion on draft day.

I can see a couple of guys going in front of AJ. Like Carson Palmer, Polamalu. Even Kevin Williams. But Leftwich and Mgahee. They traded mgahee for a couple of thirds. And Leftwich, that guy has not shown his potential at all.

i think Andre VS DeMeco for best decision ever goes to Andre... as of right now...but if DeMeco makes a pro bowl then it will probably be him.

I usually don't like to jump into the "if" game too often, nut IF DW's knee was good, he'd have to be a top 3 candidate for best draft pick. He was putting up some very good numbers for a couple of years.

Whats funny is it was posted 56 days ago. (I know he could of written a long time ago, and it just got post 56 days ago.)

Andre is a stud
This reporter is a dud
He is our shining star
I think we need a new Carr
But they shouldn't be one in the same
or the next 5 five years will be as lame
Draft day is coming soon
Hopefully we get to drop the boom
And have a dream season like last years Saints
So we wont be categorized with the "Aints"
The Texans almost have what they need to succeed
I know that we are all ready to bleed...
Deep Steel Blue And Battle Red
Cant wait for the playoffs which are hopefully ahead

:wherewill

No, being voted best WR in the league by the players might make him the best WR in the league. Starting in the Pro Bowl over Harrison and Wayne despite the poor play of his QB might make him the best WR in the league...

But you are only dreaming instead.

lets see:

- 4 years in the league
- 2 pro bowls
- voted the best WR in the ENTIRE nfl by his peers

all that in our pathetic offense (no o-line, running game, qb) :)

by the way this tool says willis mcgahee should've gone at #2 overall. i mean come on, do you really need more proof that this guy is obviously just a moron?

That’s a big contradiction calling him an expert; he probably said we will definitely draft Reggie last year as well. He is a self proclaimed expert, just like most reporters.

Just wondering i thought it was funny, did anyone else see that this guy says the cardinals should have taken D. williams/davis . haha that cracks me up he went in the 2nd round but now he shoulda gone in the first. just wondering if anyone else saw it.

4th round you mean, but he is saying that he should go there if they redrafted knowing how good of a RB he turned out.

This guy is awful. He is so wrong here, its pitiful. Here's the letter I wrote him:

Some of the stuff in here is just insane from 2003.. I'll go through my list...

No GM in the NFL would take Willis McGahee over Larry Johnson, period. He wouldn't even be in the top 20 of this draft in my opinion. Look at his YPC. A career average of 3.9 YPC. He's a rising talent, but nowhere close to Larry Johnson who has average 4.7 YPC for his career and is one of the top 5 backs in the league.

Good job on Kevin Williams. Should be real high as you have him. Very nice

Jonathan Sullivan was not a good pick. He is one of the worst picks in Saints history in fact (thats saying alot coming for the Saints storied draft history). He played OK his rookie year and in his sophmore season he was benched almost the entire year as he was an overweight slob. His 3rd year was the same story plus add the embaracement of the waste of space showing up in the media press box to have some lunch before the game. He was an awful pick, the Saints gave up 2 draft picks to move up to select him and basically got nothing from him in return. He took the money and had a buffet on the bench for his 3 years with the Saints and was traded to the Patriots for basically nothing. He failed to even make the team with the Patriots and is now out of the league completely.

Andre Johnson is not a bust in any way, shape or form. He's a physical freak who has been held back by a porous OLine not giving his mediocre QB time to throw the ball to him.

I would argue that Newman is a much better CB at this time than Marcus Trufant. Thats an opinion, not going to get too much into it. Check out footballoutsiders.com for comparisons of CBs. Newman would be a top 10 pick if you redid the draft today in my opinion.

Anquan Boldin is way too low. Mike Doss shouldn't even be in the first round, much less number 12.

Faine wasn't a consistant starter for the Browns. He was good when he was on the field, but finished his first 3 years on the IR. Thats why the Browns signed LeCharles Bentley in the 2005 offseason and traded Faine for a 10 spots in the 2nd round.

Briggs should be way higher, ditto Steinbach. Barnett over Briggs is an awful assessment.

Chris Simms is not 1st round material. Quite frankly, he sucks and is one of the worst QBs in the league

June is not as good a player as you are giving him credit for. He's a very limited player who would only work in a cover two system. He shouldn't be top 15.

Dominick Davis was recently cut from the Texans as he hasn't yet recovered from a career devestating knee injury in 2005.

Brandon Loyd? He's not first round material. Way too inconsistent a player.

Altogether, I enjoyed some of the insights that were spot on in the piece, I just came away with a bad taste over the above mentioned assessments. Keep it up, I really do enjoy these type of articles.

a lot of these "sport writers" are only writting good things about the players they like...or for the teams they like...anyone else they'll bad mouth just to create buzz about their article and make them seem more appealing to editors since their work is getting a lot of attention from the public...so don't worry about the "expert" he's just trying to get a rise out of people and has been successful at doing so
