my order of preference:
Alan Branch, DT
Amobi Okoye, DT
Levi Brown, OT
Trade Down-take BPA in the mid-teens (Nelson?)

i like Landry, but I don't want a safety at #8.
edit: Peterson would be my first choice...but I don't think he will be there.
 
Actually I would be okay with 3 out of the 4 choices. The one that I wouldn't be okay with his trading UP for Quinn..
 
Given the poll options I would choose AP. I much prefer to get an OT. But since I have not done my homework on Black yet, I will keep that out of this discussion.

I just researched about 11 mock drafts around the net and found that.....

3 have us taking QB Quinn if he falls to 8th

3 have us taking OT Brown if Quinn is gone

2 have us taking FS Landry if Quinn is gone

2 have us taking DE Okoye if Quinn is gone

1 has us taking RB Peterson even if Quinn is available

Personally, I can't see them taking Quinn if we are unable to deal Carr. Quinn does seem to be the favorite although it all hinges on him falling to the 8th pick.

You almost get the sense that that is Rick Smith's M.O... That is to say, he gives the impression that he wants to stock pile drafts picks rather than gamble them away...

I voted Landry too, I see our secondary as being our worst situation.

I could of voted for all of those options and would have at one time or another this off season, I really don't think we can lose out.


I have an insane amount of faith in our front office right now.
 
My order of preference:

1. Joe Thomas - he will be gone - simply because we need a stud OT
2. CJ - he will be gone - don't really need him but he and AJ would be scary
3. Peterson - he is probably gone - a better dickerson
4. Russell - he is likely gone - we need qb - see Quinn
5. Quinn - he is probably gone - but we need a qb and you gotta take chances sometimes - all the arguments about him would apply to Russell if we were picking earlier - or to Palmer/Vick/etc. in whatever year.
6. Gaines Adams- may be there -because a stud DE would hopefully round out our DL.
7. JAnderson - See Adams
8. Okoye - DT - would force us to make Weaver more DE than DT so I would rather have the DE - but our run D would be stout.
9. Branch - see Okoye
10. Chris Houston - CB - I think he could be the Dunta of this draft. Plus, later round CBs are almost as risky as CBs and this is too expensive to fill through FA.
11/12 Nelson/Landry - whichever looks like a better fit - which is probably Nelson.
13. Levi Brown - at this point, with the studs gone and no decent CBs left, I would have to take the best OT. Plus, he is probably worth a top 20 pick anyway(and only if the FO had him ranked as top 20).

20ish if we trade down that far: the previous 13, then whichever LB/S/CB has the best rating and fit for the team.
 
ESPN's updated mock has what I would consider a worst case scenario - meaning the QBs, RB, OT, WR and DEs are gone.
I would take DT at that point (branch or Okoye).

1. Oakland Raiders (2-14)
Projected pick: +JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson will be tempting if a deal is made to move WR Randy Moss between now and the draft. Otherwise, the Raiders have a glaring hole at the quarterback position. While some concerns have risen regarding Russell's work ethic, owner Al Davis should still favor the strong-armed Russell over Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn.


2. Detroit (3-13)
Projected pick: Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
Quinn moving up six spots in this mock has more to do with the Lions than Quinn's actual draft stock. By addressing needs at running back (Tatum Bell and T.J. Duckett), offensive tackle (George Foster) and defensive end (Dewayne White) via free agency, the Lions have the flexibility to pull the trigger on a future franchise quarterback with this pick. The Lions could also get a blockbuster trade offer for the No. 2 overall pick, which would be the best-case scenario considering their abundance of needs.


3. x-Cleveland (4-12)
Projected pick: +Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
The Browns would have a tough decision to make between Peterson and Wisconsin OT Joe Thomas in this scenario. Despite the fact the Browns signed free agent RB Jamal Lewis recently, I still think Peterson is the pick. Lewis has loads of mileage on his legs and the team only signed him to a one-year deal. The veteran back could split carries with Peterson, which would give the rookie a year to get acclimated before taking over as the full-time starter in 2008 -- much like the Corey Dillon/Laurence Maroney situation with the Patriots last season.


4. x-Tampa Bay (4-12)
Projected pick: +Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
The Bucs have other more pressing needs but it won't be easy for general manager Bruce Allen and coach Jon Gruden to pass on the draft's most dynamic offensive weapon.


5. Arizona (5-11)
Projected pick: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
This is the best-case scenario for a Cardinals team in desperate need of an upgrade at offensive tackle. Thomas is the premier offensive line talent in the 2007 class and he's ready to start immediately.



6. Washington (5-11)
Projected pick: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
Adams is the perfect fit for a Redskins defense that set a team record for the fewest sacks in a season (19) in 2006. The 6-foot-5, 258-pound end ran the fastest 40 time of all the defensive linemen at the combine and also notched 29 career sacks at Clemson.


7. Minnesota (6-10)
Projected pick: +Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas
The Vikings still have needs at defensive end and wide receiver even after spending high picks on those positions in recent drafts. Anderson notched 13½ sacks during a breakout junior campaign in 2006 and he also has a great frame at 6-foot-5, 288 pounds.
 
It would be a horrible decision to leave AP on the board. He is worth a lot, whether it be as a player or as trade bait. You can get either of the rest of those guys plus more if you have AP
 
Oh come on. The best two players that fit the Texans needs that have the most potential at the #8 position would be Levi Brown or Okeye. You always build from the inside out, and these two guys and solidify the offensive or defensive lines. We can find safetys and QBs later.

I agree but I like Branch (bigger run stopper) if front 7 can stop the run and pressure on the QB,the DB's will look alot better. IMO

B) Peterson if available
A) Landry
D) trade down or take one of the big uglies (ie. Joe Thomas, Gaines Adams, Okoye, or Branch)

C) is not even an option for me.

I'll buy this one. You know which position I want to lock down. If it did end up with Brown and Kalil, I'd be happy. Won't argue with the d-line picks though. Agreed Landry is over kill in my book. If they tell me he has the hips and feet to cover corner, that would be different. The production and salary better match the hype and numbers is all I'll say on that one. Joe Thomas would be my first choice. No way he's going to fall.
 
I don't want to spend a high pick on a run plugger, we should focus on explosive speed @ RDE & let Mario come into his own @ LDE. the middle we can plug with a combination off the current roster or select someone later 2nd day of the draft :)
 
i'm surprised somone said trade down for Quinn. anyways I would take Landry or trade down for more picks and pray that Landry is still available
 
NO DT's!! DT is a position that calls for hunger and passion. I just don't think that Branch has that. Talented? Oh yeah - so is Travis J. However, you take those street FA's we had last year and those dudes busted TAIL out there. They were much more fun to watch that TJ anyday. I say give them another chance. Say no to a $5million DT. IMO

draft Alan Branch, Mario Williams will make Branch workout in the gym, plain and simple. Branch is the best defensive player in the draft. don't let the mocks fool you. the reason michigan had the best run defense was because of him.

plus i think we can get a aaron ross or m.griffin and kevin kolb in the 2nd and 3rd round. ryan harris in the 4th, and bpa from there on.

really, can you imagine having two mountains on the dline? I like Landry and all, but i think by drafting a big guy like Branch, u might be afraid he will become a bum. But i think Mario's workout warrior habit will rub off on him and he will develop his true potential.

i just hope he's available, but if washington go wit Gaines Adams, i would feel a lot better.
 
I've heard this somewhere but the Texans are gonna try out db Von Hutchins @ FS in training camp & see how he does. I think he could be excellent in coverage (coming from his cb experience) but lacks ideal size for the position so might struggle a bit in run support, just another example how the front office is trying to find solutions to needs without being forced to draft that direction. so I doubt they look @ Landry or Nelson with that 8th pick (or smoke screen). something tells me they would really like to get a hold of Quinn (Carr may be involved, I don't know) or Peterson anyway possible :)
