Texans Re-Sign Bruener

Bruener has won the Spirit of the Bull Award, which is voted on by Texans players, is awarded to the player who exemplifies honor, leadership, and character, in each of the last two seasons.
ahem..

I have nothing against Bruener at all. He's a solid guy and a consummate professional, but I'm not sure how him re-signing will impact this team.

For one, he is still regarded as the #1 blocking TE in the NFL
Number 2, he was voted by the players as the LEADER of the team
Number 3, he is a vet who knows the game and can help develop Daniels blocking ability
And lastly, he is always good for a few catches where he drags the defenders 5-10 yards before falling

Its not like he got some huge contract thats going to break the team. Great locker room guy, great influence, great blocker. What more do you want?

i wonder if they have tried him as a tackle. he's big and he can block. he's probably too slow though.

I like bringing him back in the same spirit as Kalu and Salaam, a reliable veteran leader.

Also he is a good blocker which can only help the team.

Good news.

Good blocker, and a weapon in the redzone...

I like...

Still makes me question the Putzier signing. Sounded good at the time, but now I'm scratching my head on this.

I agree with everything you say, and I know that he actually had a couple of TD's last year, but the thing that I really liked about your post, was the point you made with respect to Own Daniels...

After GTexan made some good points about Bruener that I agree with, I am with you on this now...

Well we need to get the two of you in the F.O. to straighten those guys out. How could they not have known that we were going to get Owen Daniels in the 4th round, and he'll actually work out in the NFL much better than the last two T.E.s we drafted??

T.E. was a big need. We got lucky...... 'nuff said.

Does anyone know the signing details? Bruener to his credit has earned the respect of the old coaching staff, the new coaching staff and his fellow players. Says a bunch.

Also, as I recall, he isn't really cheap so Kubiak must believe he has a lot left in the tank.

It is quite odd. The only thing I can think of, is maybe Kubiak wasn't fully aware of the ability of Owen Daniels. I think Brueners pass catching skills have been underrated in the past as well as the present. I like the re-signing. He seems like a great team player:)

You're right about one thing, Casserly reportedly pretty much begged Kubiak to take Daniels.

99.99% of a players success, has zero to do with ability. It's more in the head, and in the heart. Like Charles Barkley says, "It takes a man to play football... don't get me wrong now, I'm a man. But it takes a man to play football."

He knew Kubiaks system and he said last year he brought some people in who knew the system and could help young players learn it. A 4th round TE is no guarantee that he will be an immediate impact player. So logically it stands to have players in position who can help contribute with the unknowns how a rookie will adjust to the pros.

As far as Bennie J goes he was always injured, if he would have been brought back those that say you would have rather had him and he got injured agin would be saying what a dumb move it was to waiste the cap space.

Tight End isn't a flashy position, he does all the dirty work with pride. Great to have him back, he did well mentoring Daniels this past season obviously.

I think our running game is going to be pretty good next season despite what people say. Bruener is indeed a really good blocker, hopefully he can help owen out. Ahman Green is a good blocker too, and our o-line is slowly getting better. If Spencer can please get healthy! Hopefully they will start playing more as a unit with more playing time together...last year was tough.

So even with Green, Lundy, Taylor, and Gado...I see us doing pretty well. It's not the sexiest backfield but when we have a Line that can finally block, TE that can block, and RB that can block...the when we run these 2 RB sets...i see taylor and lundy getting a lot more yards than the previous years.

I like what Smith is doing...I hope we sign dayne though.

I'm really happy to see that he was re-signed. He did a great job for the Steelers. Glad he is still doing a great job for the Texans.
