ahem..Bruener has won the Spirit of the Bull Award, which is voted on by Texans players, is awarded to the player who exemplifies honor, leadership, and character, in each of the last two seasons.
I have nothing against Bruener at all. He's a solid guy and a consummate professional, but I'm not sure how him re-signing will impact this team.
Good news.
Good blocker, and a weapon in the redzone...
I like...
He was basically an extra coach who could play if needed.Still makes me question the Putzier signing. Sounded good at the time, but now I'm scratching my head on this.
For one, he is still regarded as the #1 blocking TE in the NFL
Number 2, he was voted by the players as the LEADER of the team
Number 3, he is a vet who knows the game and can help develop Daniels blocking ability
And lastly, he is always good for a few catches where he drags the defenders 5-10 yards before falling
Its not like he got some huge contract thats going to break the team. Great locker room guy, great influence, great blocker. What more do you want?

After GTexan made some good points about Bruener that I agree with, I am with you on this now...
Dang, I'd rather have Bennie J. back than resigning this old codger.
At least Bruener has contributed to this team. What the hell has Bennie done?

You're right about one thing, Casserly reportedly pretty much begged Kubiak to take Daniels. It is quite odd. The only thing I can think of, is maybe Kubiak wasn't fully aware of the ability of Owen Daniels. I think Brueners pass catching skills have been underrated in the past as well as the present. I like the re-signing. He seems like a great team player
This makes me happy. Our TE situation is fine and I think that's just about the only position on the team we can say that about.

I didn't see Bruener drop any balls at all in '06. With Owen on one end, and he on the other... Which TE do you cover??[/QUOTE]
ummmm...Owen, of course.

I guess this pretty much confirms that the Texans won't be drafting a TE this year.
