What about giving DC one more year if......

prostock101

Mr. Big
we keep our 8th and take Landry. It's obvious no one's offering enough to trade him so why not throw him back in for a year. I could stand one more year if we draft Landry, work on improving the OL and DL and see what happens. We need to remember we had a lot of injuries last year. If we can just put Carr out of our minds, then we can concentrate on LANDRY, a wideout, possibly a QB in the 3rd or 4th round. Think about our D with a healthy Williams, Ryans in the middle and Landry patrolling the secondary. Now that is getting somewhere. Now resign Dayne to tag team with Green and all Carr has to do is handoff and throw a few passes. And if Carr still doesn't get it, throw Sage in.

I know, I know.......still a genius!!!!!!!

:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

how about we get a qb in the mid rounds and groom him and get another mid round pick for carr.

Ok, here's the breakdown on Landry. He's the real deal....

Evenly proportioned athlete with prototype size for the position (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) … Four-year starter on a very talented LSU defense. Missed no games due to injury … Intelligent, experienced safety … Understands his role as the last line of defense and takes proper angles to the ball … Reliable open-field tackler and has the ability to be a punishing hitter in the middle … Good speed and quickness in man coverage … Has the size to play aggressively with tight ends and yet has the athleticism to keep tight coverage with slot receivers … Might be at his best in zone coverage due to his heady play and ability to drive on the ball … Good hands and is a natural runner with the ball in his hands … Aggressive yet disciplined in supporting against the run … Willing to take on blocks and can defeat due to his athleticism … High character player.

We need this guy worse than we need to move Carr this year. In case anyone hasn't figured it out, we are not going to the Super Bowl next year so why not build this team the right way.

I don't have a problem using our #8 to pick Landry, and I don't have a problem with Carr being on this team.

But there is no way in all get out he should be starting. I don't care how much money we pay him. That's irrelevant. If he's back there, and he gets sacked, we'll blame the lines fault, even if David pulls down a ball he should have thrown. Even if he runs into a defender, even if he slides & impairs the LTs ability to block(because the LT can't see David).

We need to work on our team, not our QB. Once we see what the rest of the team can do, If Sage gets hurt, or if our coaches think David needs to be in there..... that's fine. But we need to let the rest of the team grow.

the guy has all the tools but did it list any weaknesses in his game?

he is probably one of the better safety prospects since Troy and Taylor, of that there is no doubt. But I just don't know if he is worth the #8 pick. he is a safety for crying out loud. even polamula (sic) type safeties fall into the mid and late 1st Round. What has drafting roy williams and sean taylor done for the Cowboys and Redskins respectively? 1st Round is just too early. We need to take the best QB or DL available at #8 because that is where the real value is in this draft in the Top10. We should be able to have our choice between Quinn, Branch, or Adams at #8.....that is shaping up really well

lets pick up a safety in the 3rd Round and spend our 2nd Round on the CB or OL position...preferably the CB

i just dont see the wow factor for Landry and if you are a safety and want to be drafted #8 you better have a wow factor ala Taylor and Williams....and even then its not guaranteed to work out

I really don't understand continuous threads on this subject. Seriously, you just run out of things to say sometimes. I also don't understand why anyone would rationally want Carr on this team, especially as a back-up..sorry TK.

You have management trying to trade him, you have players not wanting him here and if you keep him you will have another 12 months of controversy over who starts, who had a bad game, "see the other guys isn't as good," and the same black cloud. There is no way to explain how that can be healthy for a team. None. People are masochists id they want another year of this.

As for the pick, I'm all for the safety if he is the best guy out there. I'd rather take him and take a 2nd and 3rd round QB than take Quinn that high. JMO.

JMO.

I don't mind, & I want are totally different things.

If McNair's man love prevents this team from cutting David, or from accepting a 4th... or a 5th in return... then hey... what can you do.

I don't want him on this team. I think a back-up should be a starter waiting to get his opportunity. David has had plenty of opportunity.

I know where you stand on it and understand. Thus the disclaimer..lol. I'd take the 4th or 5th and run. It is time to concentrate elsewhere.

I don't know. I understand the argument but the fans are SO ready for a change. Now if he started and did great that would be fantastic. But history says otherwise. And I think.....no, I know, that Kubiak will pull him if need be. Thank you Lord.

But I'd worry that if Carr was the starter and had yet another year of the same-ole, same-ole......I think the boos would be so loud and violent that the building may fall down. :) But hey, at least we'd get some TV coverage!

I understand the rationale, I just feel its a 'take Quinn that low' deal. It would be similar to the Cardinals getting Leinart later in the 1st Round last year. He was a high value pick where they were last year just like we would be if he is sitting there at #8. QB is the most important position in football and top prospects are very scarce. I just feel Quinn would be the BPA at #8 for the Texans unless CJ, AP, or Thomas fall (which aint happenin). I think he has the 4th most value in this draft even ahead of Russell. JMO of course.

at the end of the day if Quinn is there at #8 he will be a Texan for better or worse.

I am bouncing back and forth between Landry and D-Line. Landry could change the tone of the Defense.

all i have to say is.. u went 7-9 two year ago and 6-10 this year with Carr.. with a upgrade in talent around him.. he can go probably 8-8 or 9-7... would you be happy with that?

No we won't! DC hears footsteps in his head when he's on the football field. He sees big people too, even when they're not there.

I am NO fan of Carr, but I do agree with you here. I am willing to give him just ONE MORE YEAR, maybe even a half. We really need secondary help, and Landry will provide just that. When the second round comes, you have a boatload of DL & WR you could take for good value. With all of the decent QBs gone (except for Trent Green), I actually wouldn't mind that. However, there are 3 things: 1. Make him COMPETE for the starting job 2. If he sucks at the end or even in the middle of the season bench his (well you know)! 3. If we can get Trent Green, bye bye Carr!

great clips. he looks like more of a pass rushing option than I had known about. i also like that he looks like he likes to hit stuff with wreckless abandon. has a mean side it seems, borderline dirty....walking the line..i got no problem with that at all

i like him but I just think Quinn has more value. if branch, gaines, and quinn are gone at #8, I think he would be a need pick and could be another young star to build our defense around.

I'd prefer keeping Carr over someone who is just a placeholder until the "QB of the future" is ready. Give him another year to unlearn the "don't risk" mentallity of the first staff and prepare a young QB from the draft.

Yeah, let's keep him. I've always wanted to know what it feels like to support a team that never makes it to the playoffs once in franchise history.

well with all due respect...Carr would have to retire one of these years...and then in 2 decades we can win a playoff game like the saints...how long did it take them??

I remember those days...Poor Archie Manning running for his life. No O-Line for over a decade. Sound familiar?

How does Landry make Carr play better..?

Here is how it works...

1-Draft Landry
2-our defense and whole team is healthy
3-because our d is much improved and Landry is a stud...we cause a lot of 3 and outs and a lot of turnovers
4-our offense has the ball A LOT (which may seem bad at first but...)
5-Carr starts the games
6-Carr hands off the ball to Green and re-signed Dayne
7-green and dayne punish the opposing D all game long
8-carr throws 9 passes total (all lobs to AJ...3 in each of the first 3 quarters)
9-once the opposing Defense is so tired of always being on the field (due to Landry, Dunta, Demeco, and MArio..and Green and Dayne pounding the ball.) We put in Sage Rosenfels in the 4th quarter
10-at this point we will have a lot more points (some from defense), and the opposing defensive players will be tired
11-Sage plays the 4 quarter of every game and pads his stats against a weak and tired defense thus looking like a hero
12- Sage also looks very good because he has minimal sacks while Carr has a lot. (see Carr taking the beating the 1st 3 quarters...sage comes in when their D can't do anything)

13-Houston Texans go 16-0 because of the patented "olemisstexan" strategy and we win the superbowl...against the cowboys.

14-the following season we trade Sage (cuz everyone thinks he's THAT good) to Detroit for the #1 overally pick in the 2008 draft.

14- we select Brian Brohm with that pick...

15- the following season is much the same while Brohm is learning the system and getting adjusted..CArr takes most of the beating....

16- Then the following season Brohm starts every game and Carr is playing for Chicago Bears at this point. We see Carr is pretty darn good beacuse we meet Carr and the Bears in the 2010 Superbowl.

So don't you see how drafting Landry is easily the way to go?

We need to imiprove our offense first and foremost. Our defense is on the field too much as it is. If you draft another defensive player with the first pick, you just ensure that he will now be just as tired as the others and you get nowhere....really fast.

I remember those days...Poor Archie Manning running for his life. No O-Line for over a decade. Sound familiar?

Archie's the man.

Y'all want to hear something funny?

On the Ole Miss campus, there is a section/drive behind the football stadium that's called "Manning Way"...it's got a nice pretty brick facade..real nice entry way..

anyways...so on it is a plaque. and it has all the Manning's names... Archie, Olivia, Cooper, Peyton, and Eli....you see because it's kind of a tribute to all of them for going to ole miss.

except for Peyton...his name is on there but he's the one that went elsewhere...just thought it was funny since he went to Tennessee...

I bet whoever made that plaque feels like a dum-ase..

(just some random useless Manning trivia if you want to impress some girl at the bar you meet....lol)

I think it's a two way street.

1-If our defense gets better we will force the other team into more turnovers or make them punt more.

2-if our offense has a more consistent running game, we get into 3rd and short....and don't go 3 and out all the time...our defense won't be on the field as much.

That's the only reason we beat Indy this year (imo). It was because dayne had his best game. lol. and because our run game held up against a weak d-line (you can contribute some to our o-line too). But the main point is we were in 3rd and managable (short) a lot of the time. Thus we were able to convert more and keep the ball, and keep the clock moving. When any team consistently has 3rd and long....it's going to be a long game for the D.

Landry helps out Carr because he won't be the guy sacking him or picking him off.

lol..

Interview with Kubiak

Bob Allen: So coach kubiak..why exactly did you select Landry?

Gary Kubiak: Well you see Bob, its' really quite simple. Because we knew if Tennesse, Jacksonville, or Indy selected him, we'd never win another game within our division.

We beat Indy for one reason. Bob Sanders was out. Period. When Sanders is out for Indy, that sticks a dagger in the heart of their defense. I don't think we beat Indy next season UNLESS we get better up front and add some playmakers.

I would actually be fine with going offense with every pick in the draft. Our defense is slowly getting better. I know about our D line problems and our secondary issues, but I still think that if we can add some explosiveness to our offense we will be a toughER team to play in 07.

I'm all for it if it means we're NOT drafting Quinn(if available). DC is as good as any of the FA's that were out there and I'm soooooooooo glad the FO hasn't gotten stupid about signing a QB just cuz of MB whining. I don't know how to evaluate DC. From all I hear, he's GREAT in practice, but I watch all our games, and he leaves a lot to be desired. Is our D THAT bad? i dunno...sometimes it seems like it. I STILL don't think DC has gotten a fair shake in Houston. I'm not a :homer: for him by any means, but 4 or 5 OC's and NEVER having an OL HAS to be considered in any indictment of his abilities and performance. From what I've seen in 2 or 3 yrs on this MB, I don't think who plays QB matters. They are personally responsible for every loss and we win in spite of them. I know that W's & L's are what matters, but ya have to consider the other 51 players AND the coaching staff. not just the QB. As some other posters have mentioned, we need to improve as a TEAM, not just upgrade one position. Carr makes some boneheaed decisions sometimes...don't we all. I hope we can have a decent performance from his position, regardless of the name on the jersey, without mortaging the salary cap doing it. The way I see it, we're paying him regardless, there aren't any significant upgrades to be had this year, why NOT let him fight for the starting nod and upgrade the overall talent of the team in other areas? Seems reasonable to me.

how does a CB help us get a pass rush on QB (unless safety blitz is called), we need a solid pick for DL/OL anything less with exception of (god help me for being a Texan) we pick up Adrian Peterson from OU. is a wasted pick.

We need to get to QB force QB to throw quicker you make secondary better

I have an idea. Please don't laugh because I'm being serious.

You know how there are a ton of 6'7" and 6'8" basketball players with amazing vertical leaps? I think it would be a great idea if football teams took one of these tall guys with freakish vertical jumps and put them on special teams for the sole purpose of blocking field goals and extra points.

Anybody with me?

Landry is a SS, not a CB and he would help against the pass AND rush. When you have a good secondary, which we don't, it disrupts the timing of the QB and receivers as well as actually having guys covered... I would absolutely LOVE to see us get to the league AVERAGE on 3rd down conversions allowed. That has been as big an Achilles Heel for us as anything. I don't care if we take Branch, Okoye, Landry, Adams, Anderson, Revis...you get the point. We're closer to having a dominant D than a dominant O, so why not finish one side of the ball then work on O in the future? I wouldn't die if we got AP, but what are the odds?? I suppose the bold is a typo...how does getting a QB force a QB to throw quicker?

Tony Gonzales, TE KC, was a basketball star. I THINK Antonio Gates was, also.

1. Neither one of them has the freakishly huge vertical i'm talking about.
2. Has anyone ever thought about this before?
But they WERE basketball starts before NFL stars, so I think it's been looked at. It WOULD be nice...kinda like a new version of Ed "Too Tall' Jones.

No. why should we accept mediocrity at the QB position just because we've improved in other areas. It doesn't make sense. We want the Texans to be the best that they can be.

No, I wouldn't be happy with that. Upgrading talent around a piss poor QB is a waste of good talent.

I would rather build our team more, and keep him, than get rid of him. Say he had a up year this year, well if we don't want him, we can get more for him, or we could keep him. We don't have much to lose...he has little to no value right now, he is tough and has potential...nothing to lose in my opinion. Its not like we are a playoff team waiting to explode.
