jamal to browns? what does that mean to AP?

Practice Squad
pro foot ball today is saying that jamal lewis just signed with browns. Would they still draft Peterson?

very interesting...

ESPN News just reported Lewis has agreed to terms with the Browns. Looks as though our chances of AD dropping to #8 just got a lot better.

If by AD you mean AP, maybe....:)

His nickname is AD, but his initials are AP, so i'll give it to you. ha.

I think it's a mistake to go RB in the first round. We need to think about the future at the most important position on the football field..and his name is Brady Quinn.

i still think they will take AD. lewis just isnt a franchise back.

Maybe, but they do have Reuben also. I don't think it'd be wise to spend a few more millions on another RB. Peterson, Droughns, and Lewis is a crowded backfield. Pending a trade, I think they go Thomas or Quinn/Russell.

this means nothing jamal lewis while being 28 isn't what i consider the premier franchise back anymore...why would you pass on adrian for a guy who has legal troubles...who recently has had trouble staying healthy...it would be like us passing on adrian just because we signed ahman green...no way would kubiak do that...he would just have a great two-headed monster for a couple of years

Personally, I don't think the Texans should draft any offensive player at #8. Thomas and C. Johnson are the only two exceptions, but that'll never happen. Keep building a solid foundation on the defensive side of the ball and draft Landry! Best choice IMO

i means that the browns will most likely trade thier 3rd overall pick

to us for david carr and our #8. I wish, but that won't happen.

but think of the possibilities

there is a high chance that we could end up with any one of these players.

Joe Thomas
CALVIN JOHNSON!!!
Adrian Peterson
Jamarcus Russell
Brady Quinn
Amobi Okoye

and many more...

You can have the best defense in the world. If you don't have an explosive offense, forget about it.

Peterson, Droughns, and Lewis.......may be worse than Detroit's WR situation

jamal lewis just got a one year deal. i'd say the texans signing green means they won't draft peterson over the browns signing lewis.

LEWIS SIGNING DOESN'T RULE OUT PETERSON PICK

Scout.com reports that the deal between the Browns and running back Jamal Lewis is a one-year deal only.

Recently, it was reported that Lewis did not want to sign a one-year deal.

The practical effect? The addition of Lewis doesn't mean that the Browns won't draft running back Adrian Peterson with the No. 3 overall pick. Lewis can be the starter while Peterson spends his rookie year learning the ropes. Then, in 2008 or 2009, Peterson can take over the running game.

Also, the fact that Lewis accepted a one-year contract in Cleveland could mean that the Ravens yanked their offer after they turned their focus to Willis McGahee.

Both the Browns and Texans could easily draft Adrian Peterson. Most teams use a two back threat. If we drafted Adrian and had Ahman, they spilt time with Green getting the 3rd downs.

I still feel like we're going after AD or LL. I'd LOVE to have LL....who knows??

Peterson, Droughns, and Lewis.......may be worse than Detroit's WR situation

What if they get Peterson with their third overall, then package their 2nd & Droughns to get back into the first... say about 29, to pick up Houston, Blalock, or something??

I am going for CJ or AP. Think of this scenario if we drafted Calvin Johnson..we would have the duo Johnson&Johnson as wide recievers! :yahoo:

I wonder how Browns fans feel about the signing since he comes from Baltimore.

There are a few of us over on the Browns board that don't like him because he is from Baltimore. But, for the most part, we don't care where we got him from considering he ran for close to 1,200 yards with a messed up foot last year.

I still think IF and only if Peterson dropped to us we would be foolish to not pick him up, just because we got Green for four years, dosen't mean he will be a fresh back for those 4 years.

I wouldn't mind having Peterson in the backfield (a la Bush / McAlister )

Either way, if the Browns pass up on Peterson that just leaves the Texans with a better pick in the first round. If the vikings pick Peterson, that means Quinn will most likely fall to us, if they pick Quinn, more over than not Peterson will be there.

As much as I'd love to see AP here I'd also like to see Landry...only question about AP is would him and Green be able to work together in the backfield and share the load, and plus...with Green being injured in the past...you never know what may happen. As long as the FO makes the right choice when the time comes

If AP is there at #8 I would seriously sign him. Green's deal may be for 4 years, but its more like a 2 year deal with backloaded incentives. Signing AP would give us our back of the future and allow him to get time in while getting OJT - kind of like Bush and Deuce in NO.

anybody would be crazy to pass on peterson...hope he falls to us...we could have alot of options.

Im just saying that you dont have to have a explosive offense to win like the other guy said.

The Ravens did it.

90 Giants - 2 games over 30 points
03 Patriots - 5 games over 30 points
04 Patriots - 5 games over 30 points - 2 over 40

---

98 Vikings - 11 games over 30 - 3 over 40
00 Rams - 12 games over 30 - 3 over 40

I think that alot of teams are moving to a 2 headed backfield. Sign Lewis, cut Ruben and draft AP.

And no, AP wont "sit for a year and learn the ropes" he is going to be thrown into the starting lineup in game 1 or 2 period.

Frankly, I hope the Browns take AP, then that leaves Alan Branch for us.

Weaver / Johnson / Branch / Williams - That will make our linebackers and secondary look like studs.

Bears, Chicago (2006 NFL season):

Points per game- 26.7 (3rd overall)
Touchdowns- 47 (6th overall)

anything else?

If I heard right, Lewis signed for one year. I don't think this takes Cleveland out of the running for Peterson, but it also could mean that they'll look at a QB or Joe Thomas (I don't think Detroit's taking Thomas) or Calvin Johnson and maybe look to grab a RB in another round...but I wouldn't say it means they won't take ADP. (see how I did that? AllDayPeterson...now nobody's sad) :joker:

If only it were that simple.

Just because the Browns signed Lewis to a deal doesn't mean AP will fall. Jamal's deal is a 1 year deal and maybe the Browns plan to groom AP over the year and if Lewis gets hurt as he has in the past, AP will step up.

I was listening to NFL Radio on Sirius and they were saying that Cleveland will probably pick Brady Quinn. Their reasoning was that a franchise QB only comes around every so often and Quinn will be a very good QB, not great but soilid and that with the combination of Droughns and Lewis will give them a solid running game.

jamal lewis just got a one year deal. i'd say the texans signing green means they won't draft peterson over the browns signing lewis.

The difference is that Cleveland has other choices besides AP. It could be between AP and Quinn, or AP and Russell or AP and Joe thomas. Those are difficult decisions. If AP fall to the eight spot, then the Texans choice will probably be AP or Landry or AP and Levi Brown, now that's an easy choice for the Texans.

^^^You know what else...Charlie Weis is probably going to give his old buddy and fellow Pats coach, Romeo Crennel, a great recommendation for Quinn...keep an eye out for that too.
