The Houston Texans GM is very wise and is pulling out all the stops to help our salary cap issues as well as team talent. He and Kubes will have a winner in Houston in no time. Next years salary cap looks better, there is no scheduled "dead" money, meaning we will not be paying players on other teams. It’s exciting watching the transition of the Texans.

you are the houston texans FO

I am excited about next year if we have another good draft this year. If we are not going to keep carr for his full contract then i hope trade him this year and take his cap hit now. If we can get as many starts out of this years draft as we did last year I will be very excited about next year. As I understand Matt Schaub of the falcons will be an unrestricted free agent next year as long as the falcons don't trade him this year. If we can fill in some new starters this year and then have alot of money next year for him and possibly one or two more top free agents it will be a good plan by Mr. Smith and Co.

The sad fact is that with all the dead money the Texans have, we aren't going to be able to sign many free agents of substance. Maybe a guy for depth here or there, but the real improvement is probably going to be through the draft. Geez, the Texans are already having salary cap problems...most teams don't have them until they actually start winning.

Yep, it's kinda like watching a new house being built.

One week they frame it, next week the roof goes on, the next week the brick goes on, next week they paint it and you think, "hey, that's kinda nice"...

This house might take a couple of years to build, though.... ;)

Throw me in the excited camp too.

I like what our front office has been doing since they got rid of Casserley. We are building a team to be competitive for the long term, and with the right draft I think we will continue to become more competitive in the short term.

true but we overpaid for a lot of dross, Wade, Moulds, Robaire Smith. I was trying to think of who else isn't with us but my mind has gone blank.:secret:

Wait!...this house also needs the AC man...err AP man, and the plummer.

...and then the tornado hits and you have to start all over again.

The tornado already hit, and we're ordering new building material and delivering it to the job site. But before we start framing walls, it's very important that we take out that cracked slab that was poured in April '02 when the house was being built.

And termites are a beech. Ferens and Casserly never bothered to treat that area, but Smith and Chris Olsen seems to have a much better handle on that...

I like what smith is doing, i think he's going to be the GM we wish we always had. He's making the necessary cuts to help us in future years.

Does anyone else see them waiting until June 1st to cut Domanick? I think they would save more money by waiting till then...but that whole thing confuses me. I really see them releasing him though.

...

Or get Atlas Foundation to repair it:

"Works like a giant screw" - Nolan Ryan

(610 listeners will get it) ;)

agreed. It's hard after five years of saying to be patient, to do just that agian. But that is where we are. The fact they aren't reaching for quick fixes is a very good sign. We just gotta keep suporting them and BELIEVE, that we'll turn the corner very soon. Gonna be like nails on the chalk board next season. But the suffering will be worth it in the long run. Keep holding the rope and don't let go. They're close and are on the correct path. I realy believe that.

I beleive if Rick Smith was here last year (FA/Draft) things would be entirely different despite cap hell, bartender :beerfunnel:

Maybe we need to install a cable-lock between David's ears.

I'm really going to miss these in the future. They've been so illuminating if not entertaining. Never under estimate mans ablity to kick a mortially wounded dog when its down. Nice character there A.J. . You're a prince.

Put me in the catergory that knows we have been done wrong from the C & C era...

We will feel the ill effects of that disease for some time. But the future looks bright. I have a wait and see attitude. Another good draft this year like last years, and we will all be seeing rewards for the pain and suffering. We all agree on 1 thing, that something is wrong, but we all DO NOT agree with what those things are. (Notice I said that in a plural sence). More problems than I care to list...

I have allot of money invested in my team, and I don't want a band-aid fix type of approach. I want the problems stitched up with a shot of penacillin(sp?) so that it doesn't get infected...

I certainly don't expect any over night miracles... But do want to see us get better each year. Then before we know it, we will be contenders... Serious ones at that...

So bring in a Master Plumber to get the job done correctly and not just a Plummer...

Maybe I am just crazy or something, but with a good draft this year, I will be all gitty inside waiting for next year's draft when some more cream of the crop QB's come out... :ok:

Obviously, many were naive to think that we were going to make any headway in FA this year. It's clear that we are paving the way to clear cap space and make wise decisions next year. With a good draft, IMO we finally have some upside for a true future....

Smith from the unknowledgeable Texan fan base will be given no credit for not signing a "big" name FA, when in fact it is the right thing NOT to do.....

Yeah, very wise. Free agent signings are so impressive versus the rest of the NFL. :shades:

Now wait a minute, let's back the green money vault up for a second...

Who can we afford? We are restricted right now as to who we can sign... Plus, I don't want my season ticket money going up for a band-aid sure fire hit, we are going to the Super Bowl FA... There isn't one out there...

I say sit tight and let's work the draft this year and then make a big splash next year when we have cap space available to work with... But that is just me... Long term baby, not overnight maybe's...

BINGO...DING DING....if only more thought like you.

Thanks. I'm going to miss your mindless defense of DC as well.

One of these days when you pry yourself loose from #8's leg, you might be able to see what many of us are seeing, but I kinda doubt it.

Mindless. Indeed.

I'll be excited about Smith's efforts when we have a viable QB. Hopefully that will be some time this year, but after letting Garcia and Plummer get away, I don't know where he's going to find one.

Well if Plummer and Garcia are your answer to our QB position, then I would say they could go to the "old folk's home" and get an old person there to QB our team...

Casserly's gone, thankfully. Rick Smith will turn it around. Just please STOP signing Denver rejects Kubiak. Shanahan blocked you from getting Plummer, your days in Denver are DONE. You're the enemy now. Stop looking at them as a friends.

you know every once in a while you get guys who come out of nowhere and contribute at a high level...i'm willing to bet that sage rosenfels can be that type of a player for us...but if not i think rick smith can make it happen with someone else that we will not see coming

They may not be spring chickens, but they're head and shoulders better than what we have now.

It is looking better for 2008 and beyond but 2007 might be another rough year because of dead money, too many holes, and lack of depth. And this in our 6th year. It would be nice if they could get to .500 this year. It looks like the Texans are content to eat this year for a better future.

Thank You, Rick Smith. Congratulations are your signing of Ahman Green!! Whose next? Patrick Ramsey? Danny Clark? James Reed? Antonio Bryant, even? We'll see in the next few days. :mario:

Yeah, very wise. Free agent signings are so impressive versus the rest of the NFL. :shades:

He has saved 9 million against the cap this year alone, we have our best player extended for 8 more years, Ahman Green is a Texan, we still have all our picks in the draft, and next year we do not have any scheduled "dead" money. Any one know who the top FAs next year will be? Because we will be able to afford any of them.

I failed to mention how weak and expensive this FA class is...

I have all the confidence in the world with Rick Smith. The guy obviously knows what he's doing and he knows what Kubiak needs. He showed that last year with all of the talent he brought in. We'll be fine.

any word on why we havn't cut or traded D. Davis (Williams)

that's what i'm wondering about. Will he be a June 1st cap casualty? I'm not sure the implications but they may be waiting untill then...i think that would then go against next years cap...and they MAY save some money...any guru's shed some light??

makes sense, he should have been cut early last year. Figured he'd of done something instead of screwing around getting paid all year,

I am not sure there is any big rush to get rid of DW before June 1. Obviously no one is going to want to trade anything of value for him, but he may be worth a conditional pick based on number of plays or percentage of plays. The new team is not risking anything and won't be out anything unless he is able to perform I think we give the FO a little time.

Well, now that they know DD/DW needs more surgery on his knee, I'm not sure they can cut him even after June 1. I predict that they will reach some sort of medical payout for him and he will retire. Looks like his knee it toast, so why screw around. Pay him and move on.

yea that's what i'm thinking. he could have at least watched our games last year but apparently 'it was too painful to see us play and not be out there'

load of bull if you ask me. I do like him but what was that about?

Under the collective bargaining agreement, can't we cut him before june 1st but 'tag' him as cutting him afterwards? isn't so players have a better chance of getting signed by someone or more $ instead of waiting 3 months.

not that he'll get signed by anyone tough...what's the implications if he retires because of surger?
