Browns sign Steinbach

looks like they'll try and make another splash in FA this year...hopefully he works out better than Bentley

same as hutchinson- 7yrs, 49 mill- 23 in the first 3 yrs

no link yet

If he got the same deal as Hutchinson that is crazy. Some teams are going to regret throwing out that much money on players who don't deserve it.

If I'm not mistaken, Steinbach has the same agent as Chester Pitts. I wonder how Pitts feels about redoing/extending his deal now? Going the free agent route seems much more lucrative. He may have made a mistake.

And yes - it is about the money.

I'm just a little perplexed that they signed him to play RT and not a G spot.

And I love how all of teh FA moves are effecting the draft, esp. the Lions and Browns getting line help.

You know most of us cry that our line isn't what we want but we all laugh at the teams that sign good linemen for big money. Top linemen are expensive and highly coveted....I don't think we were in the position to sign him, but one reason you don't pass on guys like Jammal Brown like we did for TJ last year is because of this dynamic.
brown would have probably been really expensive to resign, but it sure would have been nice to have him in the meantime.

TJ hasnt done hardly anything, and everytime i hear about jammal brown it only compounds the issue.

Guards have been getting crazy $$$ this offseason....Steinbach and Dockett/Dockery got the same deal and Dielman is expected to get the same kind of deal....That is crazy $$$ to be paying these guys. I know OL are worth it, but Id rather draft them high than pay out the nose for them in FA

If you have the cap space, why not? In a year or two, if we dont do anything stupid, we are going to be in this type of position as all the dead money on our cap clears up...those could be some fun offseasons.

Travis is eatin good though.

inked a deal that lasts until 2011 at $1,024,167 a year ( that's just the bonus )

It just screams out, " Go ahead and cut me. "

"Fool."

To be fair, no one knew just how good Jammal Brown would turn out to be at the time he was drafted, just like none of the 32 teams who passed him up in the first round knew just how good DeMeco Ryans would turn out to be, or Ryans would have been a top 5 pick.

I'm fairly sure that if they had the benefit of hindsight, Jammal Brown would be on the team instead of TJ . . or even DJ for that matter.

career-threatening knee injury...may be done. I don't think they expect him back till 2008 if at all.
Last I heard, Bentley may be in position to sue the Browns because his knee was ruined by a staph infection, which the Browns only recently started prevention against.

To be fair, many teams underestimated Brown. For example, this article from USA Today had him rated as the third rated lineman on the board. From what I remember, Barron was more likely to go 13 than Brown.

Also from the article:
Brown led the Sooners with 130 knockdowns in 2004. In two years, Brown allowed one sack
Didn't allow a sack or QB pressure in 2004

To be fair, many teams underestimated Brown.
Just like they all overestimated D'Brick as the top OT last year when it was
Auburn's McNeil, taken in the second round (32 teams passed atleast once),
who went to Honolulu this year.
But when we took TJ we passed many, many very talented players who have succeeded in the NFL already. I really kind of expect something coming down about TJ being rstructured or cut this year ? This is a big yer for TJ.

I'd never heard of it before, but kast said that the reason McNeil dropped was because of a spinal issue.
