Calvin or AD @ 3?

As we continue to "what if" every Texan move, what if they did move up in a trade with Detroit (2) or Cleveland (3), would you select Adrian "All Day" Peterson or the best athlete in the draft Calvin Johnson?

AD would be a great fit for the Texans, since he is one, but we all know that means nothing. Kubes wants playmakers; CJ is the best one in the draft. Not to mention he is the best WR "prospect" ever! Johnson & Johnson would form one of the best 1-2 punches in the league.

The next obvious question would be who will throw them the ball? Remember in this scenario Carr would be in Cleveland, so would it be Plummer, Garcia, or Sage? Hell, any backup QB in the NFL should be able to get the ball to a duo like Johnson & Johnson, right? Well that is if the o-line will hold up long enough.

The last question in this scenario would be our running game, what is Kubes not telling us yet? Does he believe we can succeed with who we have, or is there a good FA coming our way? It doesn't "seem" that way since DD (W) is still on our roster. We have so many options, do we want to be explosive, grind the ball, or dominate on defense? I’m glad Kubes and Smity are paid to make the decisions because fans want it all right now.

there is no question i'm taking calvin johnson if we move up.

1) i could deal with sage throwing to the J&J for a year while we search for a QB.

2) our running game is not as bad as everyone thinks and I think with a more stable line. Dayne and Co. could see us through.

3) CJ is HEADS above the best talent in this draft. to pass on him for any reason unless you are Arizona with more WR's than you know what to do with then this pick should be a no-brainer.

That's an easy question and one we shouldn't even think about. The selection would be Calvin Johnson, hands down. It's even more profound now that moulds is gone.

I still say though, it's not worth giving up carr and 3 or 4 draft picks to get either of those players. i like where we're at...we can get either landry or okoye or quinn at 8. Then in the 2nd round we might be able to get a very good WR or CB that slips..or maybe even Michael Bush.

If we did trade up, you take CJ. Then with QB i would probably just get plummer after he's been released, i wouldn't trade for him though...he'd probably be cheaper than garcia too although i wouldnt mind garcia.

What about making the Cleveland deal, then turning around and trading the #3 pick to a team looking to move up, maybe the Patriots, for their 24, 28 and Corey Dillon? (the deal would have to be done extremely fast, though)

the tandem of Johnson and Johnson is too hard to pass up. Plus he's a freak at 6'5" and runs a 4.35 40. c'mon. what db in the nfl wants to cover that?

hmm very interesting idea. maybe we'd be able to do some sorta 3team trade..that often happens in basketball.

NE gets #3 pick
CLE gets Carr, #8, our 2nd and 4th?
Hou gets #24 and #28 and Dillon

So basically we trade 1)Carr for Dillon and then 2)our 1st,2nd,4th for both of NE's 1sts.

Something along those lines. not a bad idea. I still will probably be happiest just taking Okoye or Landry at 8.

CJ could still go 1 to oak. cleveland takes JR and that may be enough to have peterson slide all the way past minny to us. very unlikely, esp considering someone might trade up to snag him at minny's spot. but one things is for sure CJ isn't falling to 8!

Calvin Johnson is the best athlete coming out of college I think the nfl has ever seen. 220+ 6'5 running a 4.3? There isn't a corner who can get a jumpball from him. This kid is crazy good... I watched him in college...he was the reason why georgia tech was decent/ranked. They would just throw fades to him in the endzone, and not a corner in the ncaa could do a thing about it.

I personally would like to give Mario a partner on the d-line and draft Okoye at 8, wouldn't mind Landry partnering up with D-Rob either. Keep Carr while we search for a replacement, and draft the best available talent based on our need throughout the rest of the draft. Last years draft had a lot of headliners, but this years draft is very deep at more positions.

yea he's very hard to stop. and that was with reggie ball throwing to him. just think if he had a better QB...who that might be i have no idea.

I take CJ over AD everytime.

CJ is a football player first, and he fights for every ball. Then you add in the who being 6'5 with a 45" vert., and weighing almost 240 and running a 4.35. There is absolutely zero question about who the best player in the draft is. Calvin is good enough to make Andre a #2. He has the potential to be that good. He is a bigger, faster, more percise route running, meaner, tougher Andre with much better hands at the same stage of their early careers.

Lol, then you look at the other side of the field and you have a Pro Bowl receiver who lead the league in receptions...

I have seen several posters on this board suggest that we should trade our pick for the Patriots two first rounders.

Just a few quick questions: Why would the Patriots do this? How would they benefit (since that is the only way something like this is going to happen)? And, has anyone heard anything suggesting they would like to move up at all?

The Patriots are sitting pretty with those two picks in the 1st. Just because a team has two picks in the first doesn't necessarily mean they will want to move up. I see no reason for New England to want to make a move of this nature and have yet to read anything to contradict this.

that's why it's called "speculation" and "discussion". Just throwing some ideas out there. I don't have to wait until I read something. When I think of it, I write it. They're called 'opinions'.

If we did that I just hopw we dont end up like Oakland. Two bad @$$ recievers a so so qb but couldnt do anything. The only reason they won games bc their defence

If we trade up to 3, I trade down one to TB and let them take Johnson, recoup a draft pick...either second or third round...and take Peterson.

There...that wasn't so hard, was it?

Is this why I keep seeing the initials AD when everyone refers to Adrian Peterson?

Yea, his nickname is All Day or AD, that's why many write AD when referring to him. I choose to just write AP, his initials, which i write for most players...thus confusing the majority of members on here.....AP?? who's AP? lol
