Quinn

I am excited to see Brady Quinn on his pro day. I wish he would be at the combine. I like how he benched even though he was advised not to. I think it's a mistake not to be there. Anyway I think if he has a good pro day then we need to draft him. He is a good playmaker and thats what we are looking for.

I would entertain the idea if i was Rick Smith. But, if it were me, i'd go with Sage this season and look for COLT BRENNAN next year. I lived in Hawaii for 3 years and got a chance to see him up close on more than one occasion. This guy is the REAL DEAL. Only weighs a hair under 200, but he can flat out play QB.

Brennan is not a prototypical qb - rather a product of the run-and-shoot (please see Andre Ware, David Klingler). IMO, if they take any QB this year it should Stanton or Kolb.

Stanton was unconsistent in college, so I don't know how productive he'd be in the NFL, regardless of what people say and all the hype that's been generated about him.

Kolb would be a good choice in the 3rd round, but I don't think Kubiak likes the idea of a QB sitting on the bench for a couple years before we get anything from him.

I'll give you that on Stanton, but he has all the "pro skills" (according to some of the "experts"). He would benefit from Kubiak.

I think Kubiak would be ok with Kolb there for a season or 2. Sage hasn't proven he can be an every game QB - kinda like Cody Carlson.

Sorry I have to massively disagree. I don't want a guy who is so scared to show off his abilities that he sits out the senior bowl, won't work out at the combine, and a proven track record of being unable to beat any team with any measure of talent.

I thought our objective was to get better in the draft.

what????do u know how many people dont go to the combine and wait until their pro day...tons. he didnt have to bench and yet he did......it is more accurate if he waits until pro day....i think he should participate but it doesnt change the fact that he can play......imagine what kubes can turn him into......if he is there take him and trade carr......quinn was surrounded by horrible oline and if he came here thats what it would be.....so if he can succeed with that then what until our oline improves.....he sems to fit the system plus he is THE MOST READY NFL QB......hands down. he can come in and start. have kubs work with him in tc and then let him go at it in preseason. then we could skyrocket in the season.

Look what Kubes can do with Carr, an already NFL QB.

id like to start and say i am a supporter of carr....but i will say he has mental issues due to the things he has gone through. i think kubs honestly has given up and started to not care.....it seems as though he wanted to just get through the season and thats why we just went to hand off mode and short dump mode....he didnt want to put the effort on somethign that went no where....i beleive he stated that carr practiced so good then fell apart during the games......so how can he improve that?

I in no way want any rookie QB starting for us any year, especially with our perpetually crappy o-line.

AND...what has Kubiak done with QB's that can be verified here? He took Carr from thowing deep to throwing dump offs. I think everyone is WAY OVERVALUING Kubiaks influence and ability to "transform" a QB.

When did Carr throw deep?

Stanton had a horrible line. It'd be cool if we drafted him in the 3rd.

I'm not liking Kolb as well either. I'm afraid he will be a system QB and will not fit in properly. As for Quinn, he's a coin flip in my book. He's got all the things you want in a QB, but do we want to go another season with a rookie? Maybe if we get a sound vet in FA then raise Quinn up. Possibly Plummer, although I'd recommend someone else.

if Brady Quinn falls to the Texans as Lance Zierlein blogged -

8. Houston - Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: It took me forever to come up with this selection. I'm dying to put DTs Alan Branch or Amobi Okoye here but here is my reasoning behind Quinn. The Texans need to get better at QB and this doesn't appear to be a strong QB draft and there isn't anyone out there in free agency. If the Texans pass on Quinn, they might have to wait until next year to find their "QB of the future" and even then there are no guarantees. While people may not be in love with Quinn, if the Texans feel like he has the skill set to fit into their offense, they may decide to take him and hope that he can become the type of QB to help them win games even if he won't be one of the elite QBs in the league. Coach Kubiak said he wants playmakers and the only four guys I put into that category (I'm not including safeties) here would be Okoye, Marshawn Lynch, Dwayne Jarrett and Brady Quinn. http://blogs.chron.com/fantasyfootball/2007/02/post_4.html

that said watching him get measured @ weighed in there is no way some team does not fall into "Man-Love" mode with this guy. he looks like a Greek God or something, I knew his sister was hot but you only see these guys with their football equipment on not with their shirts off. as the NFL Network analyst put it "I can say this with my manhood intact, Brady Quinn looks good".

Bottom line - I have the feeling both Quinn & Peterson will be gone by the 8th pick.

accrording to Lance that would only leave playmakers Okoye/Lynch/Jarrett. I'm crossing off Jarrett (WR class is deep) Lynch (character issues) leaving Okoye as the outright best playmaker available with the 8th pick, unless your like me & want franchise LT Levi Brown. so if one of the big names (Quinn/Peterson) does not fall to #8 & the Texans cannot find a partner to trade down with its squarely between those two, at least in my book

Brady Quinn = David Carr II

Explain. I never get the comparison really.

I think some of the posters here have thier blinders on and every instant QB in the league gets compared to Carr. From an outside perspective I don't see their games matching up that well and Quinn is a hell of a prospect.

I agree they are totally different prospects. I was not into the draft back in 02 but I find it extremley difficult to believe that Quinn would not be rated significantly higher if he had been draft eligible the same year, hence would have been the Texans franchise QB instead :bubble:

If someone doesn't want a particular QB, they say QB=CarrII.

I see that too, and it worries me that whenever we get the next qb for the Texans, he'll be under the same microscope that DC is/was. Taking a look around the NFL, there are only a handful of qb's that have great stats and post wins every week and surprisingly those same qb's are on what are widely considered to be "complete" teams.

i have noticed that too. its so ironic b/c they arent even close to the same type of qb's......quinn was surrounded by mediocre players....wasnt carr surrounded by talent at fresno???so for a qb use to that he should be able to come right in and start......just b/c wasnt that great and couldnt manage being a rookie doesnt mean that others will fail too. plus we had new coaches and schemes that everyone had to learn. now just the new qb would have to learn it. all the other players know it now. so i think it would be a good thing to get quinn.

We already have the QB with all the right tools and athleticism. The QB with the big arm and size and strength to get it done and make any throw.

Everything that has been said about Carr is being said about Quinn, even down to how everybody thinks he looks good.

What has Brady Quinn done in college? I love how everyone keeps saying he is the most NFL ready QB. I would have to disagree. Leinart was last year but you have to keep in mind Leinart at least won two national championships and a Heisman, what has Quinn done, except lose to teams that had talent?

We don't need another project right now, we need to concentrate on building up our O and D lines.

brady was good but again was surrounded by skill-less players. his defense was horrible in each big game they played this year....u cant say they didnt win a championship b/c of him....he did his part with like 30 td's and 7 or so ints.....what more can u ask of a qb.....there TEAM didnt succeed but as an indiviual he did and will......plus he is the only one who played in a pro style offense....doesnt that help..?imo yes.

We say the same things about Carr. So instead of drafting a QB and waisting a pick how about putting talent on the field for Carr?

talent as in olinemen? b/c i agree. i think he needs oline whether we get a new qb or not. the oline imo is just not good enough....some people think so but not me. i wouldnt want to throw behind our line

I have not read the entire thread so this may have been mentioned .

What if Kubiak talks to Charlie Weiss and Weiss tells Kubiak Quinn is gonna be great ? What then ?

O-Line, a number 2 receiver and a RB. Just a thought.

Brady has consistantly played one of the toughest scedules in College football year in and out and still has good numbersto show for it. He's a good dcision maker, has a great arm, athletic, and has played in a pro style offense. Something David didn't really do at Fresno State.

What people tend to forget is Quinn Skillset players didn't have the speed ,except Walker, really and overall the ND team didn't really have a lot of team speed IMO. Everytime they played teams with team speed to me that's what gave them fits and i am sure Weiss will fix that comptely once Willingham's class is gone. Matt leinhart shouldn't really be brought up in this year's discussion. When someone says a QB is the most NFL ready it's usually comparing them to the rest of the QB class that year. There's also a couple of reason's Leinart fell to 10 last year. One being he doesn't have the cannon arm that teams salivate over and i think he topped out at USC to a degree.

I agree with Silver Oak in your assesment about Qb's. I think Qb's get a lot of the success when a team does well and too much of the blame when a team does bad. A QB can't do everything himself. Call it an excuse or whatever but simply it's the truth.

Reminders for the well what did he do in college crowd. John Elway didn't win a title at Stanford and not even sure if he won a pac-10 title. He panned out pretty well. Brady didn't light the big 10 on fire. He's panned out pretty well. Manning couldn't win the big one Ala Brady Quinn. He's done just ok in the NFL.

i agree with everything evolve just said. his defense imo lacked a lot and that hurt them a lot. i thinmk he wil be a great pro qb

I could see Houston taking Quinn with the 8th pick. I would prefer Adrian Peterson, Joe Thomas, Calvin Johnson, or Alan Branch but think they will all be gone by the 8th pick. Odds are that we will have a choice of either Brady Quinn or Levi Brown with our pick. Do not have a problem with either of them. If we pick Quinn it would be for the future. We would need to sign a veteran qb to start this coming season and Quinn could compete for the job the next year. If you have a choice to draft a possible future starting qb it would not be a bad move. After all we are not going to be in the Super Bowl next year.
