Another one of my boys from Ark that declared. We need a CB and there is an outside chance he is there at the top of the 3rd round. This guy is a TRUE freak. How many CB's have you heard that bench 450lbs? He was one of the top 3 strongest guys on the team. He also has great speed. Check out what he did to Dewayne Jarrett in week 1. Held him to his lowest game of the year. Ark plays strick man-to-man and Houston uses his strength at the line well.

The more I think about it, after his combine showing, he may move into the 2nd round.

I like the thought of another physical presence in the secondary.
 
I dont like most of what you say, but you are right on this one. Chris Houston is a very good player. Depending on his combine he may be able to sneak into the first. Bottomline is the kid plays straight man and will get after any WR. Yeah he gets beat, but he is better than most of the DBs on our team cept Dunta of course. If we get him in the third I will consider it a major steal.
 
while still rating Leon Hall as his top cb, Mike Mayock (Draft Analyst for NFL Network) is looking for Chris Houston to rocket up the draft board similar to what Dunta Robinson did when the Texans selected him #10 overall. could go as high as #12 to Buffalo with outstanding combine- with great speed (sub 4.4 forty) & strength for the position (bench pressing 24-28 times).

THis is where I think our #8 pick starts getting interesting. Showing interest in a certain player may make people like Buffalo holler at us.
 
lol @ 3rd round. could be the first corner taken, top 12 even. meanwhile, leon hall is reported to be in the 4.5 range now. look at him in the second.
 
I am in a mock on another site and I picked up Houston with our 2nd round pick after getting Peterson in the first...I think I would wet myself if that actually happened on draft day and by the sounds of some of the comments on this post, I wouldnt be alone.

Is he worthy of 8???

I would love to get a true cover corner.

In terms of need CB is up there with FS and LT in my book.

I think I'll pass on this guy. I like the idea of Michael Coe or Corey Graham on the second day more than I like the idea of this guy.
 
Houston isn't worth #8, but if we trade back he would be a viable option for our team. He is very strong and fast. He needs to work a lot on keeping his hips low when planting and his initial cuts. If you watch the film, he appears a little stiff when trying to make the cut on the WR's. He didn't really show the willingness to gamble on a route and "jump" it, but he showed that he is very willing to go for the breakup and initiate contact.

#8 could be a bit much. there's just some really good players that will be available there and i don't see him in that group. if one of the quarterback falls to #8, and you want houston, trade down a few spots and wait for 'em.
 
Way off subject, but is that your actual photo there Kastofsna? If so, did the shock therapy work? Just messing with ya. Kind of looks like a HS pic. I doubt anyone is ever very happy with them.
 
chris houston measured in at 5'9 7/8 185lbs

his height may drop him a few slots. hopefully into the 2nd. reminds me very much of dunta robinson with his size, speed, and physical play.

Duanta is a twig compared to Houston. Houston can put up 400+ on bench. His height is a little disappointing though. I was hoping for like 5'11-6'0

I still have Coe coming to us in the 4th round. FS is a bigger need than CB for us..that's just one reason I don't like us to go after a 'top' rated corner or Clements in FA.

well if we can get a top cover corner like clements or houston, we could get away with CC at safety. it wouldnt be ideal, but it would still be better than faggins out there, who cant cover worth squat and has no recovery speed.

don't get me started on C.C. Brown. i can't see how anyone can make a case for this guy to be a starter. i personally think he's hit his ceiling. he makes wayyyy to many mistakes during the course of a game. Landry all the way at #8. It makes too much sense.

I knew I couldn't be the only one who saw Faggins for the joke he is. However, I tend to get riled up on that subject, so I'll leave it be.

you're the definitely not the only one who thinks Faggins is a joke. Kubiak probably is gonna be stuck with him for a few more years, because Dom signed his *** to 4 year extension before he left.

I don't mind Faggins as a nickle corner. As a #3 guy he's fine. No team is going to have 3 top notch corners and Faggins would at least be a nickle guy for other teams in this league. He would not be a starting corner for any other team in the NFL though, unless they're in the same dire straights that the Texans have been in.
 
I have to disagree with some on here. I don't see Faggins as a joke at all, he just simply isn't a starting corner. The biggest knock against him is he doesn't possess the top-end speed to keep up with the top receivers in the league, as was exposed by Lee Evans last year. However, he is a very good option as the first CB off the bench in nickel situations. He has pretty good awareness and is able to get his hands on the ball. In only 11 games last year (coming off an injury), he had 2 INTs, 7PBUs, 1FF, and 2FR. Compare that to Fred Smoot, who some think would be a vast improvement, who had 1INT, 4PBU, 2FF, and 1FR in 14 games, or even Nate Clements who had 3 INT, 16PBU, 2FF, and 2FR in 16 games. The point is that while the other starting CB position needs to be addressed and can be upgraded, Faggins has a spot on this team. It just shouldn't be a starting role.

Exactly, what I think as well.
 
there's only a handful of guys who can successfully play the nickel and outside corner. look at ronde barber. nate clements, a top 5 corner in this league, is terrible in nickel. a pretty damn good example of that is in '05 against miami when chambers put up 15 catches, 230 yards on him there. not a good day. good nickelbacks are valuable.
 
I love the idea of Faggins as a Nickle, cry a little with the thought of him as our starter.

With the addition of a solid #2 and Faggins being there at #3, we really would have a pretty solid secondary.

So what about this Houston guy? Is he worth the #39 pick?
 
Watching the combine show on NFL network they had a segment on Dwayne Jarrett. They said they he was good against drop back coverage, but couldn't excel against aggresive good corners.

They then showed game film where "Chris Houston" absolutley SHUT DOWN Jarrett and owned him all day long. That guy Jamie Dukes on NFL network kept going on and on about how Houston may be "the best" corner in the draft! He's also skyrocketing up the draft board too. I saw a mock with him going #12 to Buffalo (to replace Nate Clements I presume).

Buffalo would be crazy to use the #12 pick to replace Nate Clements. They need help in so many core areas. If Okoye is there at #12, Buffalo will take Okoye.

Stats dont work well when describing CB production, because if the CB really does his job, the ball wont be coming his way.
 
What's up with D. Hughes? The QBs at the Senior Bowl called him the best corner there and I haven't heard a single thing since.

I'm sorry but this isn't correct. There is no CB in the league that doesn't have the ball thrown to his side of the field at some point during every game. I agree that the really good CBs don't have it thrown their way very often, but it does happen and what they are able to do when it happens is what distinguishes the good ones from the rest. Look at Champ Bailey: 10 INT, 11 PBU, or Asante Samuel: 10 INT, 14 PBU. These are two of the best CBs currently playing the position, and even they get the ball thrown on them from time to time. The difference is when it comes their way, they get their hands on it and keep it from the receiver. INTs and PBUs are not the only way to judge a CB production, but to say they are meaningless is ridiculous.

Yea i was about to post this.

Very fast and very strong. He plays physical so that 27 reps REALLY stands out. He is the type of guy you want jamming receivers at the line. With the catch up speed he has its no wonder he played so much man coverage at Arkansas. If coaches can get his jam down, he can really be a nasty man to man player in the NFL.
 
Houston. Hopefully, we draft him and he wears the number 32. Lord knows I've seen my share of those jerseys the past few years.
