Theoretical Denver trade mock

Apparently, in the bullpen section, we are trading our 8 and getting denver's 21st pick and the 70th pick (3rd round). hopefully we can trade carr and get another 3rd as well. deal also included plummer and tatum bell. guess we can scratch off RB if they're set with Bell.

1- Chris Houston CB
Once he runs 4.4 at the combine and impresses with his workouts, the SEC's top CB will explode up draft boards. He won't last after the 1st round.

2- Victor Abiamiri DE
Very good athletic DE who will also impress with workouts. Very good showing at the Senior Bowl. Explosive first step, and we need a speed rusher to compliment Mario on the other side.

3- Michael Johnson FS
Good instincts but lacks top end speed. Can still make plays despite not having elite speed. Improving our CB helps make up for it.

3- Desmond Bishop OLB
We should have a much improved secondary along with an improved pass rush. That means teams may try to run more. Bishop is a very good instinctive player who can really stuff the run. At 6'3 250lbs, I think he would be a good candidate to play the SAM position.

4- Brandon Frye OT
An athletic OT who probably won't see much time unless someone gets injured. Could theoretically play RT or LT.

5- Clifton Ryan DT
We were dragging guys off the street to play DT after the injuries. If Datish lasted this long, I say go for him, but he's probably gone in the 3rd or 4th. Anyways, Ryan had a good showing at the East/West Shrine and showed a good motor. Should be good adding depth here.

Analysis
We really had problems offensively, mostly at QB and RB. If Kubiak is set on Bell and Plummer/Sage, then we have no need to waste picks on those positions. We focus on defense and improve our secondary, add an athletic pass rusher, beef up the run defense with a big linebacker, and add some depth on the OLine and DLine in the 4th and 5th.

No offense, but 5 out of 6 picks on defense??

I understand the need for extra pass rush, but get us a young Center(Kalil) in the second, we can move Petey or Sanders to safety, and use that pick for a DE(if there is one you like as well as Johnson.)

I agree that we need to draft OL, but I really don't like the idea of forcing a CB to play safety. We need to draft a specialist FS and in the first couple of rounds.

yep. lots of defense. people say our defense was good last year...i really didnt see it. the only defender that i thought was any good was demeco. the others were average at best with a few glimpses of actual defense being played.

i thought mckinney did a decent job when playing center. we have him and flanagan, i think we have too much money tied up there to draft a center that early. if we were to have another 3rd rounder, i would definitely draft OLine in the 2nd.

and where else are we supposed to add offense? WR isnt a big priority, but i did give some though to jacoby jones in the 5th, but i dont think he'd be there. we have like 12 RB's, and if tatum bell really did join us, why would we draft a RB? TE isnt a need either. so unless we could really get some great value with an offensive player, i would pick defense over and over again.

defense will be addressed but not to exclude offensive playmakers or foundation pieces.

you can almost bet Flanagan will get cut or at least restructure along with Weigert.

once again half the backs we have now might not return or be traded if possible. you must admit the Texans at least need a QB to develop, a true franchise RB, LT & Center (McKinney has two years tops).

Yep under this scenario, which directly contradicts what was said by the brain trust at thier pressers yesterday BTW, They gotta come way with at least the center, if they're going to sacrifice DC to the wolves once again. If Kalil is moving up the boards because of the extra weight, might be a pipe dream at this point. But he could set up the '08 draft if this is indeed what they do. DC may sux as a QB, but he beats up really well.

I do agree, our best defenses were against poor offenses. I don't have a problem with adding defensive help, but 5 out of 6?? All I'm saying is Wow.

Falanagan & Hogdon are worthless... give me Kalil... sides, we've got more money tied in the DE position. TWo first rounders, and a BigTime FA... You've drafted the best Corner in the draft, Sanders & Faggins are both pretty good cover guys, they just don't have the speed to run with the smaller WRs... let them play safety, take a another LT (Kubiak's next "Spencer").

but that's just me, I don't really want to argue your picks, I'm just saying.

If Kubiak didn't get rid of Wand, and Bedell, Hogdon & Flanagan didn't look so bad, I'd agree that the offensive side is only missing one piece, that we aren't going to get in this draft.... but our depth on the OL is worse than it's been in years past. With a healthy Spencer, we've got a starting line up, Salaam and Weigart.

help...... help... help..

you're right that our OL depth sucks. but this draft also is very very weak in OL outside JT, brown, staley, and possibly ugoh. after the 2nd round, there really is nobody to speak of.

That's two for today.

What I would do:

1st- Chris Houston
2nd- Merriweather/Rufus Alexander
3rd- Tony Ugoh
3rd- Interior O linemen
4th- Best Available D Tackle
5th- Another Corner or Outsidelinebacker

I think if we trade down it will help us address our role players a little better... but if you see...we still don't get a playmaker, and just have to play with what we have.
