They interviewed him from the combine. Said that DC is their starter but they are entertaining trade offers. Looking to improve the rumming back position. Said that they look for BPA rather than need.

Interesting. If AP and Quinn aren't available, BPA may be a safety.

None of the safety in this class is worth #8. I think he might opt for DT or DE (Okoye, Branch, Anderson) at #8 if AD and Quinn is not available.

Is it? Seems like image has been the thing for Bob since day 1.

Wanting players with good character is no reason to make comments like that. I happen to like the fact that we don't have a lot of troublemakers playing for us. I don't think that should be the main criteria used, but it needs to be looked at. IMO, Bob McNair is trying to do what a good owner SHOULD do. Hire the best people for the job, give them the proper resources, then let them do their job. McNair is a business man(and a pretty darn successful one, too) and he knows how ot maanage his people. IMO, loyalty plyed a big role in keeping CC and Capers for as long as he did. Integrity, loyalty and decency are some images I can live with....

Sometimes that can just get your business or organization in trouble. trouble being bankrupcy or very low sales, net profit.....etc

For the most part this is how you build a successful business. Good points and I too think McNair is doing a good job. I like the way he's doing things. I like our players a lot. and now our new coaching staff

I'm not a big fan of boxing certain people in at positions. If there's player at 8 that we like but will go after we select at our spot...nothing wrong with taking him a few spots before. Huff was taken at 7 last year and Donte Whitner was taken early for safeties. Is Landry that good to take him at 8...i think so specially if we're looking at San Fran and Atlanta probably wanting him.

Doubt AP is there at 8 but if he is...i'd at least entertain offers before going to the podium. Same with Quinn. I'd prefer Levi Brown at the 8 spot honestly. I think that pick alone would do wonders for our line and offense as a whole no matter who is the RB or QB.

the only way i see a BPA pick is if it's a BPA at a need spot. Which is LT, FS, CB, LB,DL preferably in that order. There's a lot of holes on the team i jsut think those spots are the most GLARING.

I wonder if we would take Ginn if available? Kubiak has said that we need another receiver and a playmaker. Eventhough I don't want Ginn, I think he would be the kind of receiver that would be good opposite Andre. He could be the Peerless Price that Moulds had in Buffalo during the prime of his career and would fill two needs in punt return and kick return.

I don't think we will take him, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if we did.

i'd rather us take someone else at a more pressing need. you raise a good point. in my opinion i and probably others would be upset. i'd probably complain untill he finally did something that really impressed me...he'd pretty much have to be rookie of the year or a league leader in a year or two for me to be happy. might be unfair to him but that's my honesty.

Personally i think ginn is overhyped and not a top 10 talent.

Oh my, here comes Brady Quinn because Bob thinks he's cuter.

Oh god I can see it too. He is thinking smart though in a way. What way to bring the ladies to watch football by bringing in a handsome QB. It is kinda 50/50 on the intelligence scale of buisness.

Oh my, here comes Brady Quinn because Bob thinks he's cuter.

God I hope not. IMO Brady Quinn is a hack. He had several nationally televised games this year and no showed to all of them. Sure, he can beat up on the North Indiana community college all girls JV football team, but if he plays a team with talent he crumbles. In fact, I value Leek higher than Quinn.

If the Texans draft Brady Quinn, I will personally lead the Million Fan March from Westridge and Kirby to River Oaks where we will mass demonstrate on McNair's lawn until he gives us our team back. 55 gallon drums for burning paraphenalia (including season tickets) will be provided.

I'll need someone to organize the "What do we want?" and "When do we want it?" chant...

Texans | D. Williams injury update
Thu, 22 Feb 2007 11:26:05 -0800

Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith, during the NFL Combine, said RB Domanick Williams (knee) is entering the strengthening phase of his rehabilitation process. Williams spent the 2006 season on Injured Reserve.

Texans | Smith comments on Carr
Thu, 22 Feb 2007 11:23:43 -0800

Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith, during the NFL Combine, said the team is not actively trying to shop QB David Carr per se. While he said inquiries about Carr have died down, they will only make a deal if it improves the team as a whole.

but, but Bud Adams is a more successful businessman... so does that mean loyalty is really not that good?

After last year's draft and the obvious, well-known desires of the public to draft RB or VY, I doubt this FO/owner really gives a crap what fans want (other than a winning team, of course).

I wonder how season ticket renewals are going these days.... :hmmm: I put my down payment on 2007!

I know my dad and his buddies renewed theirs. Although all of them love the tailgating so much that the team could probably forget to show up and the day would still be a semi-success. Hell we probably wouldn't even notice much of a difference in play.

Tailgating seals the deal, IMO. Even with a $30 price increase, it's still a decent bargain when you consider it's a 9 hour event (3 hour game + 6 hours of tailgating goodness). Getting a chance to hang out with my buddies all day, not to mention going to an NFL game, are opportunities that are few and far between these days.

just watched smith on nflta....wow....u def. did not tell all he had to say......jamie dukes asked specifically if David Carr was "on the trading block" smith said no, not really.....teams were interseted if he was and made offers.....he said that he would obviously entertain them but that he wasnt going to team to team and saying he is for sale.....he said that there is a lot to consider.....he was one of the best in the league with completion %...he was a 1st overall pick...plus he had his best year with them last year......and if they do trade him it would have to HELP THE ENTIRE team...not just one postion....and if they trade him where do they go from there......they have NO QB.......rosenfels sux....i dont know why people like him.....anyway thats what happened......

I will be marching right next to you
i'll admit quinn wouldnt be my first choice, but i'll still back the team. getting to hang with friends and talk sports all day while kicking back a few isnt so bad. getting up at 6:00 am is a little rough considering i should be sleeping in, but it really is worth it. my buddy (whom i hit all the games with) couldnt wait to re-up just after the season. the same goes for everybody that we tailgate with.

Taking things pretty literally these days aren't ya steve? Kinda burns you that you no longer have my jersey to pick at? My sympathies.

nah--it's nothing like that. what i posted should be taken as literally as what you posted. i actually dig the backwards #34. i could have picked indy or jacksonville but i didnt want you guys to walk that far, being covered in soot from the burned tickets and all.

If i could score tickets, i sure as hell wouldn't be burning them..I haven't been able to afford/acquire tickets since battle red halloween vs. the jags. Its been too long...and I want to meet people on this board and tailgate, but I honestly wouldn't know where to begin or how to find anyone in the lots. I love the hell out of this autographed campbell, but i don't have enough money to get it framed like i want

On the contrary, everything is copacetic at the moment.
:hmmm:

There is only one guy that can go by just Earl. So how can you be sending in renewals every year?

although, I guess I am suspecting there is going to be a simple answer to this. One that I am not seeing.

I am suspecting there is going to be a simple answer to this. One that I am not seeing.

Yes, it's very simple.

I've attended every NFL game in Houston (except for one) since Earl's rookie year -- I went to some games before that ... my first game at the Dome was one in September '76 against the SB bound Raiders...but I started really getting into it for obvious reasons in '78.

The LYB years were not really season tickets, they were single game tickets - some SRO's - that we had to buy before the season at the Dome box office out in the parking lot where Reliant now stands... sometimes I was able to go with a friend whose company had season tix down in the field level near the visitors chute. But I never missed a game - even during Chuck Studley, Ed Biles, and Hugh Campbell. I started my real season ticket buys in '84. .... and I have no plans of ending that streak anytime soon - god willin' and the creek don't rise.... but I'm north of Clear Creek so I don't have to cross it on my way to Reliant....

Good character and a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee. While Carr's PR team presents him as being "of good character," I have no first hand knowledge of his character at all. For all I know he beats his wife and is a big drinker and carries a gun and is mean to children.

You guys gotta get over this Christian publicity machine--hasn't Bush (Geo) taught you anything?

try the fellow in my jersey

I know... that's why I had to pause. Every year would mean you had to be sending in renewals from 1997-2001 without getting any tickets.

aj-
man, you poor suffering bastard. Ed Biles and Glanville. In person and within reasonable reach, the temptation must've been great.

( which reminds me of another thread I have tried to ignore to no avail )

aj-
man, you poor suffering bastard.

On the contrary, (thankfully) I'm neither poor nor suffering - even in my NFL fandom. I feel quite fortunate to have attended all those games. I remember bringing the Sunday paper with me to games a few times when all we had to root for was Larry Moriarty but overall it's been great.

Getting this thread back on track, I'm waiting for Rick Smith to prove he is the anti-Casserly. It shouldn't take long.

Of course I wasn't sending in renewals from '97 - '01. Bud took his mailbox with him to opryland, and I wasn't about to help finance his move.

Whoever the best player available is will be a good one and i like Brady Quinn among all the ones who dont like him.

The guy is better than you give him credit for its just you all remember the sugar bowl and the USC game this year when it really wasnt his all fault. He tries to do tooo much cause he knows his team cant beat teams like that without him doing it all.

Everybody is high on jamarcus russell when he has size and an arm but no moxy or heart or better than decent accuracy for that matter. whats the use of throwing a bowl 80 yards if you cant throw it on the button?

He's got all the talent in the world but he hasnt come through in big games either i dont wanna hear Notre Dame or Tennessee they were alot worse than his loaded LSU team with Quinn wouldnt of lost a game cause Quinn has heart, determination and knows how to lead his team from behind which Russell jus couldnt do.

If he had any kind of defense to help him when he and his team were struggling on offense they could of went to a national championship game.

Id love to have him if may not be the popular choice but QB is the most important position in football and if you dont have a good one you will lose plain and simple. So if they think hes the one to lead us to championships then by all mean take him.

And then Quinn leads the Texans to a super bowl in a few years...how dumb would you feel then?

If the Texans draft any QB with their first pick I am going to vomit.
"What do we want?" "An O-Line"
"When do we want it?" "Yesterday"

One knock I hear on Quinn is he is not a very good roll out QB. And in Kubes system I think we would need a QB who is accurate on the run.

Sacked 31 times last season. But I'm sure it was the o-line's fault and they just needed more pieces around him.

Sounds like sarcasm. When I said we need a QB who can throw on the run it was not to say our OL sucks,(even though it does most of the time) it was a statement to the fact that Kubes likes to run DESIGNED rollouts.

but, but Bud Adams is a more successful businessman... so does that mean loyalty is really not that good?

I have no idea if Bud Adams is a more successful businessman than McNair. I DO know McNair paid 1BILLION for rights to a franchise and a new stadium(yes I know the stadium is not coming right out of his pocket). I doubt you have much more than opinion about which one is more successful.

Don't knock bud....his only mistake was renting the astrodome from the Houston Astros. He also listened to the fans from time to time.

I think Houstonians have earned the right to knock Bud whenever and wherever we feel like it.

Bud Adams is dog poo in this city.

p.s. If you think that was Bud's only mistake, then you need to brush up on Oilers history. A decent starting point is John Pirkle's book "Oiler Blues: The Story of Pro Football's Most Frustrating Team"...it's not a perfect book, but it'll get you started in the right direction. :ok:
