3 needs 3 picks

1)Levi Brown
2)Brandon Meriweather
3)Troy Smith (if available) otherwise Ryan McBean

I really want to see us get Troy in the 3rd.......we need a lt so end of discussion there....get over the fact that ap wont be there.....make no mistake that green bay will trade up to grab him if there at like 6 or 7........meriweather....nuff said we need fs.....now i think we need a qb t omold and smith would be ideal for the bootleg.....even if he is small he has a hell of an arm.....and thats why there is the bootleg.....i think IF we get a rb......(i dont think we need one this year) e can get one really REALLY late....

drew stanton. I know he didnt impress people that much in 06 but I still think he will be a better pro qb then troy. Who knows we shall see, we really wont know anything untill the combine, and even then we wont know for sure.

No im not trying to debate with you, you are right he prob does have the best arm in the draft and he did win the hiesman, Im just concerned on how well he will adapt with the NFLs DBs and how much faster they are. I know you saw the Flordia game. he was shut down. But other than that he is a great player.

jason white was a heisman winner too. why not get him? the fact remains that smith is small and although he has a strong arm, he also has a long windup. if we're going to get plummer, it makes no sense to take a QB on the first day. a 3rd rounder can contribute immediately. you saw winston and spencer. we still need to improve the DL, and we need a RB as well. we need to win now, and taking smith in the 3rd doesnt make us any better. we might as well just go all the way and take quinn in the 1st and forget about plummer.

Jamarcus Russell has the best arm in the draft.

I don't see QB being big need in the draft.

Not when you have LT, FS, CB, SLB, DT, C to address not to mention the offensvie playmakers that Kubiak wants.... and I don't think he means QB when he talks about that.

As for the Heismann winner argument.... that means next to nothing in the NFL.

it would be tough to see a shorter fella like Smith trying to get passes off in front of Stroud and Henderson twice a year, every year.

Russell Has a freaky arm! Much better than Smith. Smith seems to be a decent QB prospect to me but I think he will be gone in second round. We have other needs before drafting him in 2nd round. I do like Smith and if you can get him in the 3rd Iwould grab him and let Plummer play for a year or so. If that is the way you wanna go. I personally would like to see us take Jared Zabransky in the 4th or 5th round. That guy has the "IT" factor.

Long story short; recent Heisman winning QB's have not translated to the NFL. Carson Palmer being the exception not the rule

Russell has the STRONGEST arm in the draft hands down. How is his accuracy? I havn't heard anything to suggest it's poor or anything, just curious.

This is what I found on him:

Strengths:
Has truly rare size and bulk for the position...Might have the strongest arm in all of football (college or pro) and can make all the throws...An outstanding natural athlete...Very powerful and a load to bring down...He is mobile enough to avoid pressure and can hurt defenses with his feet...Does a superb job of keeping his eyes downfield...Has a very quick release...Can throw well on the run...A leader with good poise and composure...Got better every season and is still improving.

Weaknesses:
Is relatively raw as a passer and will need to work on his technique and throwing mechanics...Has made great strides in the accuracy department but there is still room for improvement...Numbers were inflated by the system he played in...Timed speed is solid but not special...High bust factor?...Does he love the game and is he commited to working to be the best he can be...Has minor durability concerns.

Notes:
Has drawn favorable comparisons to Daunte Culpepper...Housed over a dozen family and friends, including legendary musician Fats Domino, for a week following Hurricane Katrina...Physically he has everything you look for in a franchise signal caller...Even though he is not yet a finished product this could be the type of guy you can build a team around if he fulfills his vast potential...A sure-fire Top 5 pick.

My thoughts in bold.

I still think Eli got jipped. Manning definitly should have won it over jason white. white had great numbers and all but it was oklahoma when they could have beat any team in the nfl. (slight exhaggeration but OU was a monster then)

I agree with that. OU was freaking crazy then!

Three needs, three picks:

1. - Adrian Peterson (RB, OU) The Texans need a Running Back. The Texans need a Running Back. The Texans need a Running Back.
2. - Michael Griffin (Safety, Texas) In a deep secondary class, Griffin is still an elite safety and will make life hard on Colts passing games.
3. - Datish (Center, OSU) Not only a center, but a guard, too. Thus filling Kubes' love for lineman who can play more than one position.

With these three picks the Texans have improved Carr's protection, given the Texans their first great running back, and improved the run game. Defensively, the Texans now have a great safety. This is kind of a BPA pick in the second round. Defensive secondary is not the Texans' priority, but I'm betting they take the talent.

Because Stanton can throw on the run. He fits Kubiak offense, and he can see over OL.

Smith had a bad senior bowl week to go along with a bad bowl game. Yes he won the heisman but so did the OU qb White, and where is he playing?

I agree with y'all. I like Drew Stanton, Jon Beck and the kid from Boise St. A lot better than Troy Simth. The heigth is not nothing. I can see the brownies taking a flyer on the guy at the end of day one or early day two. You think he's going higher than that, youre fooling yourself. Noone is going to over pay for a six foot QB in the modern era. TBS if he was there in the fourth and Kubes and Smith like the guy...I wouln't mind seeing him picked there. The third round there should be value way beyound what Troy brings to the table. They need to hit all of their day one picks this year.

i wouldnt say it is the #1 priority, but i could really see the team take at least one DB in the draft along with a solid FA in the defensive backfield (michael lewis).

this would make me extremely happy, although i dont think peterson will be there. all three picks solve big needs on the team, and it doesnt seem like you reach anywhere. if Ap. isnt there, a trade down would be my next favorite move. lets you play with another day one pick. look d-line and LB with those maybe?

I see Adrian Peterson helping Carr out moreso than any other player. He would be LIGHT YEARS AHEAD of any of the other backs and would be a HUGE asset to this team.

Michael Griffin would help out the defense minimally. he is more of a SS. We nee a true free safety. CC Brown and Glenn Earl are both decent SS imo so i dont see us having to address this position in free agency. MG would be a grea pick up in the 2nd roudn but i see us having more needs than that. After landry/nelson...that leaves meriweather...for FS...he'd be an awesome selection for us but honestly i dont see mcnair taking him. so i dont see FS at all in the 2nd.

To be quite honest OSQ, I dont see those three picks helping carr out all that much. Peterson would be an obvious help if he's there. Griffin is on defense...while a better defense would help our offense out...griffin isn't the guy imo. and Doug Datish?? He doesn't have the potential to be a starter for our team for at least 2 year IMO. Pitts and Weary are much better than him at the guard position and I dont see Datish stepping in at Center for at least 2 years...IF that. even if he does that I doubt Carr will be hear so If Datish ends up panning out for our beloved texans after 2 years it will be for another QB. not carr.

You can have a lot of fun by locking up the Texans defense with the first three picks, and the Texans do lean towards defensive picks in the first three rounds.

On the other hand, I tried several times to work out a list (Okoye/Griffin/Blades (OLB, Pittsburg)? Landry/Beason (OLB, Miami)/Crowder (DT, Texas)?) and could not come up with anything I really liked. There is too much "potential" and not enough instant impact. I'd be willing to listen to what is available, but I think the Texans will go for instant-impact offense this year.

Also, admittedly, I don't keep up with defense as well as I do offense, but from what I've heard, the linebacker class is weak. For that reason, I'm thinking the Texans FA a linebacker, maybe Cato June from Indy.

Sorry. What I meant was that the first two picks will do a lot for Carr (i.e., open up running lanes, provide runner for those running lanes, and upgrade his protection).

Griffin won't help Carr out in any immediate way, but I think he is another great defensive back from a university with a history of providing great defensive backs. I also think he is pretty versatile. He could play CB or Safety, depending on where the Texans want him.

As far as Datish, you are saying the same things I heard about Winston and Spencer. That they would not be ready for another year or two, and Kubiak still played them. Flanagan and Hodgdon can't fill the hole. Datish is fresh blood, the second-highest rated Center in this draft class, and a versatile lineman. I think he's a great match for the Texans.
