espn mock draft (updated today)

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft07/insider/columns/story?columnist=mcshay_todd&id=2765614

found this on espn... it is insider, so it wont allow me to cut and paste it...

but, it is a new mock draft.. with our beloved texans drafting......
**Brady Quinn**

it has the browns selecting adrian peterson with the 3rd pick; in part to the lions taking joe thomas with the 2nd overall...

i am not sure about this,.. obviously it is a guessing game at this point, but i would be seriously bummed if quinn becomes a part of our squad.. he reminds me of carr wayyyyyyy too much, but yah... just thought it'd be worth posting..

peace

I don't see how Al Davis passes up the QB. He just seems to fit perfectly. Where did Calvin Johnson go ? Who did Buffallo take with the twelve ?

I didn't check the Insider Draft yet, but last time I checked Buffalo took Okoye at #12.

Brady Quinn would be, in my mind, a perfect fit for Kubiak and the Texans. However, I'm not so sure that Gary wouldn't be content bringing in Plummer this year and bringing in a young QB to groom in 08 or 09.

During lunch today I was watching ESPN, and they had Mel Kiper's updated mock draft on the scroll across the bottom.

Peterson going to the Browns.
Brown going to the Texans.

If we get either of those players, I am pleased as punch.

TY, I know it's copywrtied stuff. Kipper does a good job rating guys. He gets tunnel visioned on some propsects though and won't let go. I'll look for the crawl.

I know a lot of folks on the board will be disapointed not getting true "playmaker" if Levi Brown is the pick. The fact is though...the rest of the OLTs are probably going to have to sit a year befor they are ready. I don't think Plummer, DC, or Rosenfeilds...whoever can afford to wait on Charles Spencer's leg. It would be good if he comes back up to speed. But it's a heck of a gamble that he would. It's just too risky if they only are going to keep three QBs on the roster. Just a mock. Long way to go.

Also, if Spencer does come back healthy and we draft Levi, we could have our tackles of the future (Brown is considered by many to be a better RT prospect then LT, just saying) with Winston either moving to guard or being a very capable back up (depth, who knew!). Cant wait for April.

why do i keep hearing this so much? The only thing that Quinn and Carr seem to have in common is that Quinn has a bit of a pretty boy look to him. So what? There are a lot of pretty boy QBs out there who are great.

Quinn has had a crappy OL and a crappy team around him and has excelled. He's got great poisie, abillity to move in the pocket, and ability to throw the deep one with touch. I say if he's there, lets grab him

From a "building the franchise" perspective, I'd be happy with either Peterson or Levi Brown.

From a "reason to tune in and watch on Sundays"** perspective, I'd prefer Peterson.

**NOTE: The Texans are almost never on here in Austin anymore; and I am stuck watching the Oilers and their UT QB.

In 2007, our pass rush should be improved, which will work wonders for our pass defense. I would also like to see Rick Smith pull the trigger on 2 UNH players in this draft. Those players being David Ball and Corey Graham. David Ball WILL surprise a lot of people in the NFL. His numbers were undoubtedly inflated by the lack of competition he faced at New Hampshire, but nonetheless, he has all the tools and could develop into a decent #2 receiver, or a solid #3. Corey Graham is the prototypical 'under-the-radar' corner coming into the draft. Good speed, nice cover skills. He's not as good against the run as Dunta, but that shouldn't be a hit on him. I would love to see the draft pan out like this:

1 - Brady Quinn - QB
2 - Tony Ugoh - OT
3 - David Harris - LB
3 - Brandon Mebane - DT
4 - Corey Graham - CB
5 - Sabby Piscitelli - S (2nd choice: Gerald Alexander -S)
6 - David Ball - WR
7 - T.J. Downing - G (2nd choice: Roman Fry - G)

Meh.

Not keen on watching another project rookie QB out of this class.

If they went that way, I hope it means that Kubiak et al know something about the QB that I don't. The Texans need more immediate impact playmakers.

So if they're going to realse Mathis, what would be wrong with Davis or Higgens in the third round ? What about one of the speedier RBs in the fourth round ? Would that qualify as a "playmaker" from your prospective TC ? Or do they gamble and take Ginn Jr. with the eight ? He is a gamble you know. Straight line speed....no routes. Just what would your qalifactaions be for the "playmaker" ? Give up mulitple high picks to Detroit to ensure that Adrian Peterson is our guy ? Exacty what did you mean ?

if you want a return guy.....what has happened with jeremy bloom's injury? any idea? sorry this is random.

Kiper and others at ESPN are not only still mad about the Texans for not taking Bush, but the ESPN crew was also real high on other USC guys Leinert and the OT, Winston Justice.
Kiper had Leinert as the first QB going, to the Titans I think who of course took VY, and the OT fell completely out of the first round. They hate it
when that happens to their USC guys.

if you want a return guy.....what has happened with jeremy bloom's injury? any idea? sorry this is random.

Bloom spent the year on IR with the Eagles. But in reality, it had more to do with getting his body in "football shape". He conditioned to ski when the NCAA wouldn't let him play football.
In training camp this past year, you could see the "rust", and to me, anyway, did not look all that impressive in kick returns. Was thinking, not reacting, as he ran, making him look a bit slow and missing yards he should of had.
I understand he has been working hard to get in "football shape" and is recovered from injury. Is still a question mark as it will be two years since he has played. It will be a big training camp for him. The Eagles need a better return man. Bloom has his chance, needs to make the most of it. Also, he will be looked at as a WR.

Brady Quinn also reminds me a lot of Joe Montana. Doesn't mean a thing... you guys need to stop being like "I hate pretty boy quarterbacks". Guess what, my friend looks a lot like Michael Jordan, but can't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Now my analysis for Brady Quinn:

He has good size, he has decent speed, he can make the throw on the run, and he has been coached by, in my opinion, the best offensive mind in football. (look at his half time adjustments, they are amazing). He has started more games than any other quarterback coming out, and started twice as many games as the heisman trophy winner. He has played in front of bigger crowds than that of a Texans game and he played and put his team in position to win the "greatest game of the century". He has done the job countless times for his team to win, his team didn't always pull through. He has been through thick (look at his freshmen and sophomore campaigns) and thin. If he is behind he doen'st panic, and if he is a ahead he is cool headed and plays with good confidence. He was highly rated out of high school and throws the best deep ball out of any qb coming out. He also is very accurate and his awareness is great (throws the ball away a lot).

And for those of you who say I what do I know, I watched him coming out of high school in camps, I have watched every single game he has played.

I think he is a step above Leinart. If he had the defense like USC or OSU or Texas has had, he would have national titles, heisman trophys, and other awards to showcase, but really on that team, there were two other talented players, and the rest weren't really all that great. (that is changing now that their recent success and weis has brought up recruiting).

1. Oakland Raiders (2-14)

Projected pick: +JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn, Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson and Wisconsin OT Joe Thomas are also possibilities, but Raiders owner Al Davis could fall in love with Russell's size and arm.

2. Detroit (3-13)

Projected pick: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
It might not be the sexy pick, but sexy picks haven't gotten GM Matt Millen and the Lions very far. Offensive tackle is the team's most glaring weakness, and Thomas is the only elite offensive lineman in this year's draft.

3t. x-Cleveland (4-12)

Projected pick: +Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
If Thomas is off the board, the Browns will be faced with a tough decision between Peterson, Quinn and Michigan DT Alan Branch. The team might not want to invest more money in another young quarterback, and Branch is a bit of a reach at No. 3 overall, so Peterson makes the most sense at this point. Quite honestly, spending this high a pick on a back with durability questions makes me nervous.

3t. x-Tampa Bay (4-12)

Projected pick: +Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
The Bucs have other more pressing needs, but it won't be easy for GM Bruce Allen and coach Jon Gruden to pass on the draft's most dynamic offensive weapon.

5. Arizona (5-11)

Projected pick: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
As usual, the Cardinals are prime candidates to trade down. Otherwise, they should use their pick on the best available defensive playmaker. Adams, Branch and Jamaal Anderson could all be considered.

6. Washington (5-11)

Projected pick: +Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas
Branch might also be considered, but Anderson is a no-brainer for a Redskins defense that set a team record for fewest sacks in a season (19) in 2006. Anderson is the complete package physically, and registered 13.5 sacks as a junior in 2006.

7. Minnesota (6-10)

Projected pick: +Ted Ginn Jr., WR/RS, Ohio State
Quinn and Branch would be better values. Unfortunately, the Vikings' biggest draft priority is to find an upgrade at wide receiver, despite using the No. 7 overall pick on Troy Williamson two years ago. Ginn's world-class speed as a receiver and return specialist will be attractive to coach Brad Childress and his staff.

8. Houston (6-10)

Projected pick: Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
Quinn is the toughest prospect to place on the board right now. He could still be the top overall pick to the Raiders, but it's also feasible he could slip all the way to the Panthers at pick No. 14. David Carr, the 2002 top pick, has clearly fallen out of favor with the Texans, so they would find it tough to pass on Quinn if he's available here.

9. Miami (6-10)

Projected pick: +Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
Branch would be a steal at No. 9 overall. At 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, he can play NT and/or DE in a 3-4 scheme, as well as DE in a 4-3 scheme. That type of versatility should be attractive to the Dolphins.

10. Atlanta (7-9)

Projected pick: LaRon Landry, DS, LSU
Penn State OT Levi Brown is a possibility, especially with new head coach Bobby Petrino looking to get bigger and more physical along the offensive line. However, Landry is rated higher and plays a position of equal need. A four-year starter in the SEC, Landry should be ready to start immediately in the NFL.

11. San Francisco (7-9)

Projected pick: +Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC
Jarrett is admittedly a reach at No. 11, but there's a drop-off in overall talent after the top 10 prospects. Jarrett is a proven playmaker with extraordinary hand-eye coordination. He needs to run well to sneak into the top 15. Jarrett would be a fine young weapon for QB Alex Smith.

12. Buffalo (7-9)

Projected pick:: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan
The Bills will be in the market for a top-shelf cornerback if they lose free agent Nate Clements. Hall's stock is dropping because he lacks elite speed, but he makes up for it with instincts, size and athleticism.

13. St. Louis (8-8)

Projected pick: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
The Rams are looking to improve their size and toughness up front defensively. Okoye is still a bit raw, but his upside is tremendous because he's only 19 years old. Okoye is quick and powerful enough to contribute as a sub-package pass-rusher early in his career, before hopefully emerging as a full-time starter in the future.

14. Carolina (8-8)

Projected pick: Levi Brown, OT, Penn State
Florida DS Reggie Nelson is also a possibility, but the Panthers have spent a first- or second-round pick on a defensive back in each of the past three drafts. Brown makes more sense, as he could help solidify an offensive line that was shuffled due to injuries in 2006. If Brown emerges as the starting left tackle, Travelle Wharton could move back inside to his more natural guard position.

15. Pittsburgh (8-8)

Projected pick: +Lawrence Timmons, OLB, Florida State
Timmons' stock will soar if his combine workout matches the hype. The Steelers may be facing a scheme change defensively under new head coach Mike Tomlin, so Timmons' versatility and rare physical tools could help ease that transition.

16. Green Bay (8-8)

Projected pick: +Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal
Brett Favre could help maximize Lynch's explosiveness and versatility if they're working in the same backfield in 2007.

17. Jacksonville (8-8)

Projected pick: +Reggie Nelson, DS, Florida
FS Deon Grant is the only defensive starter not locked up for the 2007 season. If he leaves, Nelson would be a good replacement. Nelson needs to get bigger and stronger, but his speed and ball skills are outstanding.

18. Cincinnati (8-8)

Projected pick: +Darrelle Revis, DC/RS, Pittsburgh
The Bengals will be targeting the top defensive prospect available with this pick and Revis fits the bill. He is a big cornerback who will support the run and show quality instincts and athleticism in coverage. Revis' value is also helped by his potential as a return specialist.

19. Tennessee (8-8)

Projected pick: Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU
QB Vince Young needs more weapons to work with on the perimeter, and the Titans would be elated if Bowe slipped to them at No. 19. Bowe averaged 15.2 yards per catch with 12 TDs as a senior. At 6-foot-2 and 222 pounds, Bowe also impressed with his toughness and athleticism at the Senior Bowl.

20. N.Y. Giants (8-8)

Projected pick: Aaron Ross, DC/RS, Texas
The Giants must upgrade their cover-corner situation and Ross has the type of size, speed and agility to quickly emerge as a starter in the NFL. Ross also brings value as a playmaking return specialist.

21. Denver (9-7)

Projected pick: +Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia
The Broncos have needs at safety, wide receiver and running back, but none is more pressing than the need for an impact pass-rushing defensive end. With four Day 1 picks, the Broncos are prime candidates to move up in the first round. If they stay at No. 21, Johnson has the quickness and relentlessness to help the cause.

22. Dallas (9-7)

Projected pick: Daymeion Hughes, CB, Cal
The Cowboys could go with the top defensive back with this pick. Nelson would be ideal. If he's gone, the team could draft a cornerback and move Anthony Henry to free safety. Hughes stood out as the best cover corner at this year's Senior Bowl, but must answer questions regarding his top-end speed.

23. Kansas City (9-7)

Projected pick: +Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina
Rice's draft stock could fluctuate greatly depending on his postseason workouts. Assuming he grades out as a late first-round prospect, the Chiefs would welcome his pass-catching services on the perimeter.

24. New England (from Seattle)

Projected pick: +Jarvis Moss, DE/OLB, Florida
The Patriots have not been keen on drafting linebackers on Day 1, but that could change this year. Bill Belichick has a thing for players out of Florida and Moss is a perfect fit as a developmental rush linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 scheme.

25. N.Y. Jets (10-6)

Projected pick: Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska
Cornerback, running back and offensive tackle are also positions of need, but Carriker is an ideal fit as a versatile 290-pound defensive lineman who can play end in a three- or four-man front.

26. Philadelphia (10-6)

Projected pick: Anthony Spencer, DE, Purdue
Tennessee WR Robert Meachem is a possibility if the team elects to let Donte Stallworth go, but addressing the defensive front seven is a bigger priority. Spencer was a late bloomer in college, but burst onto the national scene with 26.5 tackles for loss as a senior.

27. New Orleans (10-6)

Projected pick: +Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas
The Saints need a youth movement at cornerback and Houston could emerge as a good value late in the first round. He's flying under the radar right now, but the more film I watch of him the more impressed I become with his natural cover skills. Houston did an excellent job of limiting top-flight wideouts such as Jarrett, Meachem and Bowe as a junior this past season.

28. New England (12-4)

Projected pick: Patrick Willis, ILB, Mississippi
Tedy Bruschi and Mike Vrabel are not getting any younger. Willis is instinctive, tough, quick and versatile enough to earn a starting job as a rookie, which would allow Vrabel to move back to his more natural outside linebacker position.

29. Baltimore (13-3)

Projected pick: Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn
Baltimore's offensive line is aging quickly. Grubbs is the premier guard prospect in this year's class and could be ready to start immediately in the NFL. USC OC Ryan Kalil is another NFL-ready interior offensive lineman who should be available. Finally, the Ravens may choose not to re-sign free agent OLB Adalius Thomas in the offseason, so drafting a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker is another possibility.

30. San Diego (14-2)

Projected pick: +Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee
Safety is a possibility here, but the Chargers could get a better value in Meachem, who displays the size, speed and playmaking skills that QB Philip Rivers needs on the perimeter.

31. Chicago (13-3)

Projected pick: Paul Posluszny, OLB, Penn State
If the Bears can't re-sign Lance Briggs, Posluszny could become his replacement. Posluszny's stock is dropping due to a sub-par senior season. He returned from a knee injury and made a position change to inside linebacker in a new 3-4 scheme. Do not be surprised, though, if he sneaks back into the bottom of the first round after finishing as the career leader in tackles at "Linebacker U."

32. Indianapolis (12-4)

Projected pick: Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee
The Colts could go in a number of different directions with this pick, including an athletic inside linebacker such as Florida's Brandon Siler. However, Harrell could be a steal late in the first round, if he checks out physically after suffering a season-ending biceps tear as a senior. He's the type of quick and aggressive interior player the Colts will be looking for throughout this year's draft.

**NOTE: The Texans are almost never on here in Austin anymore; and I am stuck watching the Oilers and their UT QB.

I _completely_ feel your pain, as I am also in Austin. It burns my hide...having Bud Adams forced onto my TV. I'm a native Houstonian with a looooong memory.

See the 23 pick Sidney Rice pick to the Chiefs, that's what I'm talking about when I say Kiper locks onto guys and won't let go. Rice will go to the combine next week, run a blazing forty and drop every pass that he lets crawl up into his body. The first time in years the chiefs go wading in for a true WR prospect high in the draft and they pick the most prone to bust one on the boards ? I guess I just don't see the genious of the Kiper thought process here. Don't put that kind of a reach beyond Herm Edwards personel skill level, but I believe Lamar Hunt Will be spinning in his grave somewhere with the Rice pick. If ever ther was a club that has a need at o-line it's the cheifs right now. The first teired ots are off the board, but there will be a pretty fair gaurd out there. If Rice goes off the board in the first round, I'm just going to shake my head. Joe Newton would be a late round surprise for the Chiefs. Gonzo can't go on forever. Newton would be prety fair cheap Gonzo insurance.

Also, if Spencer does come back healthy and we draft Levi, we could have our tackles of the future (Brown is considered by many to be a better RT prospect then LT, just saying) with Winston either moving to guard or being a very capable back up (depth, who knew!). Cant wait for April.

Actually, I heard the nflnetwork crew mention that Levi Brown has very long arms...Longer than Joe Thomas'...might not be such a bad pick after all. Agreed with the thought process there , run-david...It's be nice to finaly lock down the o-line after five years. Still see the herd has him rated in the twelves and twenties so he will fall to the Bills and Cowboys respectivly. Watch the Mocks change radicall after the combine. I think...we'll be lucky to get Brown at the eight. If they want Landry, I hope they move down a few picks. I hate over paying for a saftey who cannot cover the corner in an emergency. No matter how tallented, basically you're over paying for a safty. Not prudent in my book in this day of free agency and cap dollars.

This is the reason that nobody should take these "mock drafts" seriously.

Anybody who is anybody would know that Kubiak would not draft a QB this high in the draft unless he had all the other pieces of the puzzle in place beforehand.

If he didn't draft VY or RB...why oh why would he draft Brady Quinn, who in my opinion is the second coming of David Carr? It's not just the looks, it's the body language, the stature, the inability to win really big games or to take the team onto his shoulders via-a-vis VY and just get it done on his own.

Quinn is not going that high.

I'd like to think that Kubiak would rather spend the pick on Levi Brown, Branch (who I don't think will last to no. 8), Okoye (which would be a real gamble because the guy's only 19, yet he is super freakish anyways) and/or picking Laron Landry or Reggie Nelson to give Mario and Dunta some help.

But, that's just logic talkin'....what do I know?

These mock draft guys see the turmoil with David Carr and they see a guy like Brady Quinn, and so it must automatically be some sort of match made in heaven.

Amazing. Who do I send my application to at ESPN to be paid to predict draft picks?
