Dallas has 3 monday night games?

the_dork_avenger

Practice Squad
SEPTEMBER 27..................... Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins

NOVEMBER 15....................... Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys

DECEMBER 6......................... Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks

How did Dallas get 3 Monday Night games? Is it because of their "lucky" season last year? I could maybe under stand 1 game but 3?!?! Can someone explain this to me!?!?

Even if we like to give as little credit as possible to the Cowboys you have to admit they do have a big fan base that translates into higher viewership numbers for Monday Night Football.

They were a playoff team last year, and they have a high profile coach in Bill Parcells. It doesn't hurt that they play in a division with Joe Gibbs, Donovan McNabb, and a NY team. I'm not shocked nor surprised by the number of games. Monday Night Football will always have a few lousy games on every year because of the unpredicatable nature of the NFL. A team like Oakland can go from the Super Bowl to the bottom of the league. They always take awhile to catch up with the good teams.

Eh, not a shocker for me. A last year playoff team with a gigantic fan base and someone like Parcells at the helm should be able to produce 3 MNF games.

I'm really looking forward to the Eagle game, been doing so much trash talking with Philly fans in other mbs. Going to be some good times

I agree with Vinny, a all Texas SuperBowl, Unforteuntly it didnt happen last year in Houston. Oh well

Simplest explanation: Ratings = $$$

Want to guess which team draws the biggest ratings?

I'm with Vinny on this one...when I first saw the thread I was like cool! I get to see them lose three times on National TV

I've worked in many different places throughout the country and have found
Cowboys fans in all those places. It's a curious phenomenom re. the fans that live in far flung locations because most of them can't really tell you why they like the Cowboys. I've decided it's a case of all the TV exposure creating familiarity that feeds on itself. Almost like a TV commercial that promotes a brand name or product that consumers become familiar with and/or comfortable with, but aren't really sure why.

Perhaps to a lesser degree. In most cases, fans will be loyal to the team in the city or state that they live and if they move to 20 different states, they will at be fans of 20 different teams. Sometimes, catchy commercials will command a loyal fan base for winning seasons, but usually if the team consistently lose game, they move on to identify with the winner and one that gives the best opportunity to do high fives.

In the case with the Cowboys fans, one has to admit they are not casual, just because fans. It takes a lot of dedication to a team to hang in there after:

The second most popular coach in football (IMO, Vince Lombardi was the most popular) is unceremoniously fired after 29 years.

Watching your team sink to 1-15 yet be committed to the team

See another superbowl performing coach dismissed and still stick with the team.

Being committed to the team that's the butt of all the sports jokes because of irresponsible off the field activities that kept the team in the news.

Sorry, but average fans don't stick around under those circumstances. I suppose if a Cowboys fans is asked point blank why, it is hard to answer we probably don't fit the mold that most fans conform. But, for whatever reason, we can still sit in our stadium in the worst of seasons, and still not wear paper bags over our heads. The Texans are too new, so I won't use the die hard Texan fans as an example, but do you really believe most fans will boldly exclaim "how bout them _________, after going 5-11 for three consecutive seasons? I guess the best way to describe it is "it's a family thing." :twocents: :)

FYI...Dallas cowgirls Home attendance rankings since 2000:

2000: 20 (out of 31) Record: 5-11
2001: 18 (out of 31) Record: 5-11
2002: 22 (out of 32) Record: 5-11
2003: 23 (out of 32) Record: 10-6

[Gotta give you guys a hard time! :hehe:

Cool! However, there are only nine teams in the NFL with seating capacity less than Texas Stadium. :hmmm: :)

I had season tickets when they were 1-15 and never saw anybody wearing bags on their heads. Maybe we wanted to but nobody I ever saw there did.

I really dont think 63,903 is bad attendance out of a possible 65,812 TX stadium can hold.
If Dallas is the most bandwagoned team, then why isnt it sold out every game?
Hey, I watched every single game in those three straight 5-11 seasons and I always had a positive supportive attitude of Dallas. 5-11 or not 5-11. Like you guys, the Texans did poorly the first 2 seasons but you guys still fully supported them and sold out Reliant every home game. Thats what being an NFL fan is all about

Yes, but they didn't sell out(capacity 65,000 attendance 63,000 per game), so that can't be an EXCUSE!!

Check out the bad years and the attendance (this is from a different site that goes further back...)

Cowboy Attendance

:)

Ohhhh Kaaay! It is my understanding that Green Bay has a waiting list decades long. Their capacity is 72.5, yet the attendance figures over the past five years reflect 70.3, 63.6, 59.8, 59.8, 59.8. Was there a renovation last year? idonno:

They sold out according to the NFL black out rule. I'll try to look it up but I know it's been a long time since the Cowboys had a black out in Dallas.

Maybe some local company bought the rest of the tickets.

Honestly, I didn't read this whole thread, but I just want to say this: one of the reasons the Cowboys are so popular is because of things like this. They get 3 MNF games this year, despite the fact that they're not THAT good and everybody knows it. Obviously, the Texans aren't gonna see any for a while, anyway, but that's not fair to somebody--whoever else would've gotten those games. I think Dallas did deserve one or two--probably one.

That's one way to look at it.

But couldn't you also say that one of the reasons they're on MNF so often is because they're so popular?

Hey, it was all made up with last night my man! It's all good!

Dallas should have lost that game. I cant believe the review booth didnt stop play and review the catch in the endzone by Johnson.

But all in all the best game Dallas has played in a loooong time.

I was kind of stunned too. I still think a team should be able to challenge in the last 2 minutes of the half. I don't know why they limit that.
