I knew it sounded really similar to the McNabb comments, although irrelevant to the point that i didn't think he could be serious. Rush seems to think he is pretty clever, manipulating the liberal media like this.

Chris, my comment was a total tweak of the media, a play off my comments about them re: Donovan McNabb. Wanted to see if I could send them into a tailspin again, for the fun of it. And, sure enough, it has. I revealed this a little later in the show to a caller.

Of course it is a nonsensical comment. We had just had two weeks of stories on the first Super Bowl with two black coaches (the lib watch dogs that selectively quote me, and from where most in the media hear my comments, as opposed to actually listening to my show, totally ignored what I said positively about that), illustrating my McNabb observation that it is the sports media who are focused on race, not me.

So, I goosed them again and my audience knew what was going on, which is why there was no uproar until the lib blogs got the word out yesterday.

I call it Illustrating Absurdity By Being Absurd.

You know, his first comments about McNabb always sounded like a Skins fan talking. (Which he is)
Not so much racist, just a Skins fan that doesn't like McNabb.
 
Maybe the "libs" didn't get it because it wasn't funny. Rush is only "hilarious" to his crowd of ditto-heads. Personally, I think he is full of hot air.
I'd put a lot more stock in what Bill O'Reilly says about conservative issues, and that isn't saying much.
 
After reading the exchange with the caller, that sounded like a totally set up call, unless the caller was brainless enough to think that Peyton Manning isn't also white. Well, on second thought he was agreeing with Rush so...

Anyway, my mother always said that a lot of truth is said in jest. While I think Rush probably did do this to get free publicity in the media outside of his own show, I also think he has a problem with black people in general. Mostly because they don't kiss the GOP's butt like he does.

First he says the media wants McNabb to do well because he's black.
Then he says the media wants Grossman to fail because he's white.

Nah, that's not a trend.

You do realize that about half of the people reading this thread understand that it was a joke and the other half actually think Rush Limbaugh meant what he was saying.

Name one comedian that everyone thinks is funny.

I won't wait for an answer, because there will not be one.

I'm not saying that I find Rush's humor funny, but that's just me. I like George Carlin, but I know a lot of folks that don't find him funny at all. Humor is in the eye of the beholder.

I see Rush's point, but I think he's just doing it to razz people and get his name in the national media (again). It's his job to generate ratings for his advertisers. Capitalism 101.

But at least a comedian you know is making a joke, or at least attempting to. Rush said it as a statement first and one of his producer's eyes probably got as big as saucers, making Rush realize he had just pulled a major boner. So he tells a caller that it was a joke on the libs to cover his butt. He's clever, but not funny.
Also, humor is not in the eye of the beholder. That is beauty. Humor would actually be in the ear, wouldn't it?:marionaner:

I do with Rush like I do to the trolls that try to post on here...I ignore them. If you respond to them, you only give them ammo.
 
It was obviously a joke. I seriously doubt that he thinks Rex Grossman is being criticized because he is white.
 
The problem with liberals is that they take themselves too seriously. That's why they cannot laugh at themselves, and they cannot laugh at others. And thus when someone like Rush attempts to get people to laugh at the overly sensitive liberal media (whom he was targeting) you get the kid of remarks like what you see on this thread.

You guys crack jokes about all sorts of things here, including David's beautiful hair and how he lays in the fetal position when the ball is snapped, etc., etc. But when The All Powerful Rush Limbaugh makes a light-hearted jab at HIS opponents...you get your panties in a wad and cry about the social injustice that is Rush Limbaugh.

I read Al Franken's book, and it's a waste of time. He makes almost no factual arguments against Rush. It's mostly taking pot shots at his weight. Contains lots of comedic writing like what he might've written in skits on SNL back when he was a writer for them. Franken, IMO, has some serious anger issues and has publicly exploded in fits of PHYSICAL VIOLENCE upon people who challenge his views. Throw that in with the FACT that Franken sank Air America along with other idea-less emoting liberals, and I'm not so sure that Franken is the best person to prop up against one of the country's most influential and prosperoous ENTERTAINERS who continues to grow his profit margin and his listener base every year.

Like him or hate him all you want, he is what he is: Successful.

I've seen the guys on ESPN's NFL shows make similar comments about black QBs and not even get a flinch out of anybody. Remember when T.O. publicly said he thought Favre could come in and do better than McNabb? And then McNabb said it was like "black on black crime" what T.O. said? McNabb was saying that T.O. specifically used Favre in his example because Favre is white, which would be implying that an old white man is better than McNabb. So we have two celeb players here (T.O. and McNabb) who are very openly using racial expressions and yet there's no outcry is there? Amazing. My example is not to say that white people should be given grace on racial issues. But is meant to show that the issue of race is double-sided and is manipulated by ANYBODY at ANY time for ANY reason that might cause them personal gain. And for one person (Limbuagh) to be villified while others are ignored is, IMO, the height of inequality itself.

Anyways, this is funny to watch people get upset about what an entertainer says when we all spend our time on a message board saying whatever WE feel we should share.
 
i guess I just don't understand Rush and his thinking. Does the media not want Peyton Manning to win as well? Is this a "boring" Super Bowl because 2 white Quarterbacks were in it?
 
I think eveyone here is missing the point. This had nothing to do with his comments about McNabb. This had everything to do with pointing out the national media's obsession with black success. All making a big deal about black coaches in a Super Bowl does is point out the fact that they are black and we are white. There is no colorblind society. The media makes you believe they want a colorblind society but the fact remains, there are much fewer stories and less social issues in a colorblind society. And everyone jumping on the bandwagon of black sucess is only further fueling the fire. I'm happier with the fact that there were two Christian coaches in the Super Bowl.

I thought it was overplayed a bit but it speaks volumes about the strides african american coaches have made in the league. I think many would rightly so point out that that it was the right man simply getting his dues after paying out. But in a struggle to equality it's one stepping stone of many that i think some people in our generation can't quite understand FULLY that this was a dream 40 years ago and it is now a reality. It is a culmination, at least in a way, of the work of others who came before Dungy and Lovie Smith. I think the two understood it and to Dungy's credit said i look forward to the day when this is not an issue.

I think some people like Rush simply can't understand the struggle for equality ...because a guy like Rush was born that way. You can speak about a colorblind soceity but truth is it's starting to get that way only because of people who have worked hard and fought hard to make it that way. Ask a african american 40 years ago who wanted to be a coach about his chances of winning a superbowl.

It only became an issue this year when it was crammed down our throats for the two weeks leading up to the SB. I think I speak for many when I say it doesn't matter to me what color the coach, owner, GM, player, trainer, cheerleaders are.

The only folks it matters to is those who can benefit from divisiveness like the media.

Agreed.

Race is used for personal gain on both sides. I am sure that both head coaches were a little uncomfortable with the constant attention to their skin color.

I would be. It's almost as if it's not their personal achievemnt that is the most important thing about their Super Bowl experiences, but rather the media is focusing on how they are "representing" their race/culture/ethnicity/etc.

I would have responded this way, "Yeah, I'm a black man. And I'm a black head coach. But my blackness is secondary to the fact that I am a pretty darn good coach. At the end of this whole thing, can you just see me for being a good coach?" But, I have to admit...they did take the right path: They said and did the right things to go along and just avoid such an incident as I theorize that I would have displayed had I been in their situation.

One way or another, it still comes down to skin color right?

No offense but how is pointing out two black head coaches made it to the superbowl for the first time divisive?. It also became an issue this year well um becasue this was the first time it has happened.

I think a bunch of stories were pimped during the superbowl and this was a story line that had added historical importance to a degree. Not on the level as say Jackie Robinson playing with the Dodgers but in its own way somewhat of another step. IMO
