"Man Crush" Draft picks

this is kinda funny but try to be serious & express your opinion of who you have a "Man Crush" on as far as any of the Texans picks or the 07 draft in general. open forum for any thoughts feedback, reasoning etc....why you feel strongly this particular football player will be NFL pro bowl material, team leader, do everything prospect that you would want to represent you & the Texans.

Levi Brown- a man amongst boyz, huge dominating left tackle & surprisingly cat quick. very intelligent with a dry sense of humor someone his teamates could look up to (here seen w/joe paw) & believe hes got their back(side).

Well, I know for a fact that Gaither will be an All-Pro LT, but he pulled out of this draft. I'm open to a lot. I think beerlover can also list Okoye as a "man-crush."

I guess I would say my "man-crush" of the draft is Chris Houston. Strong, physical, agile CB specializing in man coverage which he played at Ark.

YTF is right on target. Chris Houston is big-time and if he is available in the second with anyone but Meriweather around he is easily my pick. Obviously Meriweather. I am a big fan of the U I guess, because it seems I am always wanting us to take at least one player from there.

Kind of obvious (see avatar). I would love for the Texans to take Nelson, but not at number 8 unless he shoots up the draft board in workouts. It would have to be a trade down scenario. But Nelson is what the Texans are missing. We have two strong safeties (Earl,Brown), and I'm not sure either one of them are starting quality. The top free agent option (Lewis) is also a strong safety.

What I'm saying is that a good FS is very hard to find. Nelson is a playmaker, something the Texans don't have enough of on defense. He can cover up alot of coverage mistakes, and would open up the Texans to do more on defense (blitzes) because they won't be afraid to trust their safety in coverage. I really think the Texans were conservative on defense this year because leaving CC Brown as the lone deep safety scared the hell out of them. Can't blame them - it scared the hell out of me too.

Anyways, just my :twocents: .

Lorenzo Booker can be a late day 1 early day 2 steal. I think him and Dayne would compliment eachother perfectly.

The guy dances more than Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice in retirement, I don't see it.

My man crush draft pick is LaRon Landry.

My man-crush draft pick is David Ball. It's obvious that the Texans should go with Okoye in the first round, at least to me. David Ball can do everything you'd want in a possible 5th round pick. He doesn't have blazing speed, but makes up for it with his route running and big catch ability.

actually mine would have to be laron landry the videos ive seen on youtube....i just cant imagine what peyton would do if he got creamed like that......

okoye
AP
Lynch
Landry
Nelson
J.anderson
g.adams

all good players i wouldnt mind

but i like okoye the best cause he could be our tommie harris

For the past couple of years, we have spent three first round picks on DL and out of these three picks we wasted two picks on Travis Johnson and Babin. I think its time for us to focus on the offensive side of the ball.

I realize Okoye, Branch, and Anderson are all good picks but the best pick for Texans in round 1 would be AD if he is available. If AD is selected ahead of us then I don't mind Texans spending number 8 at any of these guys.

We have so many needs that it will take couple of years to fill just the bare minimum. On offense we have no consistent running game, our OL stinks, and yes we also have QB issues to resolve. I have hard time seeing Carr as our QB.

On Defense: we need really dominant DT who can push the pocket allowing Mario Williams to do his thing, we also need another pass rushing DE to play opposite side to MW (Weaver is not much of pass rushing threat) , We definitely need another CB to play across Robinson, Safety position needs to be upgraded, and yes we do need SAM (OLB).

Special team - both kickers and punters needs to be up graded.

my man crush for the last few months would probably have to be Laron Landry. The problem is i think there will be higher rated guys that we would choose before him. I also like AP too.

And for all those that say his nickname is AD and not AP go eat it....I call him AP cuz thats his initials.

very good point...I've been wondering why "AD" is typed when referring to AP (adrian peterson)....whats his nickname? where did he get it from?

I kept looking at the keyboard thinking my typing skills were diminishing cause I thought people were missing the p and hitting the d...but they are no where near each other and I had to triple check once I saw "AD" on every draft thread with him mentioned....????

Yea his nickname is All Day...which is cool and all but I just refer to him by AP (his initials). so I don't have a problem either way...i just get annoyed when people get pissed off by saying i'm doing it wrong.

i forgot my reasoning though...i like laron's leadership qualities.. having Mario (dline), demeco (linebackers), dunta (cornerbacks), and landry (safeties), each group has a very solid leader. that has been in the league less than 4 years

this is about 20 beers later but if you have a legit "man crush" on a player you have to stick by his side no matter what the draft police have to say. if you like LaRon Landry by god stand up and say so. I think he is a terrific player too, if the Texans selected him @ #8 and both Levi & AP where gone then so be it. other than those two players he could have the biggest impact (bang for the buck) the Texans could select.

another player who has somehow escaped the radar, but that I have to mention (no man love) is Darrelle Revis, Cb Pitt. along with Reggie Nelson, FS Florida have some serious upside thats not yet charted. regarding Okoye, Louisville he is a projection pick, very scarey. I've watched him all season long & still not convinced what position he will play in the NFL, however my best case for him would be to go to a team with solid, experienced DL he could learn from, I'd very careful not to subject him into the starting lineup immediately.

Agreed. i think if peterson is gone we have to take him..regardless of any other need. if he is gone there are a few players we could take that could be smarter but with the whole 'man crush' i have a landry...he would feel a huge need we have...even if it is a reach...it's not one i would be upset about.

Ole Miss Texan, one would think based upon your avatar sig that Patrick Willis is your man :winky:

hey dunta23, i happen to think that 7 "man crushes" is too much for any man, just kidding... but seriously. Anywayz, mine would also have to be LaRon Landry

no doubt...talk about a crush...lol. i've been looking forward to the day we draft him for 2 years. but in the postion we are in i can't see this ever happening so its sad for me. i want him soooo bad its not funny i just dont see this happening and to be completely truthful i don't think it would be the wisest move for us. based on our needs we need to go a different direction in the 1st round as much as i hate saying it. i would love it and would probably by a jersey of his in every color but as far as our franchise goes we need FS,CB,DE,DT,OL,RB before LB in the 1st...sad to say.

Thanks for pointing it out though...lol big man crush...especially with his character if you throw that in...his playing ability alone will get him selected top 15 imo but with his character and the kind of person he is will be an asset to all the team...he's a true leader and a great man.

thats what I'm talking about a serious "Man Crush" maybe in some kind of trade down you get your wish :)

no doubt he is the best LB in the draft, you have a keen eye. he is very compact, drives through holes & is around the ball everywhere.

I'm better off naming who I dont like for time sake, but here it goes:

Adrian Peterson, RB, OU
Brandon Jackson, RB, Nebraska
Robert Meachem, WR, Tenn
Jarrett Hicks, WR, Texas Tech
Jay Moore, DE, Nebraska
Brandon Mebane, DT, Cal
David Irons, CB, Auburn
LaRon Landry, FS, LSU
Michael Johnson, FS, Arizona

hmm interesting list...can you explain mainly the bolded? first rd. and underlined for later rounds...

With such a deep defensive draft i'm thinking we can pick up depth players for the D in later rounds. IMO like another poster mentioned I would liek to see them focus alot more on the Offense this year - getting playmakers and O-line strength.

My Man crush players are

Adrian Peterson, RB, OU
Levi Brown, OT, Penn

Nice choice. Definitely a first round pick.

Hopefully a Texan in some sort of draft day trade down.

:coffee:

drafting Adam Carriker in a trade down scenero would be more in my comfort level than taking another DE (Gaines/Anderson) w/8th pick & I have no "man love" for him, he is just a no nonsense bluecollar disruptive end good at all things you need from that position.

Peterson is a total badass and I'm in love with the fact that he would give us a consistent running game and is also a playmaker. After watching us beat the Colts becuase of how mwell we ran the ball, I'm all for getting Peterson and solidifying our running game.

Landry is very consistent and reliable. Not to mention, he covers a great deal of field. To top it off, he's a vicious hitter and can pick passes off. He's a balanced and reliable FS, everything you want from the position. I don't mind Nelson, he isn't consistent like Landry is.

Irons is the biggest man crush I've had all season. He's confident and covers well. Every time Ive seen him, he's done a great job jumping routes and sticking with his man. Considering he's around a 4th round projection, I think that he is a complete steal at that spot an reminds me alot of Nathan Vasher.

Meban has been all over the field every time I've seen him play. He plays alot bigger than he is and always gets penetration on plays.

Johnson has good size, decent speed, and is a playmaker with good instincts. What I like most about him is that he reminds me of Kerry Rhodes in that he doesn't have the greatest measurables, but is a gamer. If we don't get Landry, I want Johnson.

I love this pick(posted it on my(what I'd like to see 2007 roster) in another thread. He is going to be a great pro and an unbelievable in the value mid rounds. My man crush though is Adrian Peterson.

Micheal McFaddin. Small school guy. DE. Played him as THE only LB in their division 2 championship game playing vs a spread run n shoot attack. That says a lot to me. The guy is a natural athlete. Someone is going to roll the dice on the guy.

oh i gotcha. i thought those were players you didn't like.
Nope, I was saying that I would be better off saying who I didn't like. Speaking of which, here are the select few who I don't like who should feel honored to make the list:

Jordan Palmer, QB, UTEP
Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan
Quinn Pitcock, DT, Ohio St
Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno St

I love Lamaar Woodley(big Michigan fan) but he justs seems like a 3-4 linebacker in the NFL to me. not a good fit for us I dont think.

I see this all over this board when I talk about Woodley.

A 270 lb. guy who runs a 4.6-4.7 should be on our draft board.

He is strong enough to play DE and quick enough to play OLB in a 3-4.

There doesn't seem to be much consistency on where Woodley will go. If he is quick enough and has the instincts, could he play Orr's spot? He has the straight line speed.

I guess he might be too big to play coverage though. It just seems like there aren't too many strong side linebackers in the first day of the draft.

Yeah I'm guilty of this also. I like the MLB better. I guess I have man love for meeco at the will. David Harris will do that in spades. I could be wrong...but I wanna see I'm wrong. It makes no sense playing Lawrence Taylor at the Mike. I just wanna see if Demeeco translate to the Will before we throw it out out of hand.... with out giving it a look. One thing is for sure, Woodley can't under produce by much what we already have on the rooster there.

Lately I've gotten sucked into the Willis hype, although 8 seems early and our second pick is too late. I wouldn't mind moving Demeco to WLB but I don't want to do it at his expense. Anyone we draft at LB needs to be able to play another position as well as MLB in case DeMeco doesn't translate so well to WLB.

Is he really strong enough to do that in the NFL though. I know he can play OLB in a 3-4 but DE??? He did have Branch playing with him at Michigan holding up blocks...if that means anything.

I really like David Harris...I can't figure out what you are saying here though. "In spades" seems to be a phrase I am not familiar with. Can you explain it to me?

Spades is a card game where all of the spades are trump cards. You bid accroding to how you think the suits are split. If you have no hearts, diamonds, clubs or are weak in those other suits other than the spades...that means you can trump the rounds early and capture the most tricks. Tricks = thirteen. 52/4. So "in spades" means you've got and outstanding chance. You've got all the trumps and can controll the game. David Harris can play Mike with a superior run stuffer in front of him. The only question with Harris is can he play it with our core DT's in front of him ? With Harris in the middle it will allow the club to experiment with Demeco at the Will. My gamble is that yes he can do it without an elite DT infront of him. See what he runs at the combine. They get another two playmakers on D...they'll be close to a forty-six defense in tallent. Not saing they will do that...but they could if they wanted. Payton hates pressure up the middle.

For the 1st rd i've stated my man crush is on patrick willis, laron landry, and adrian peterson.

For the 2nd rd. i'm really starting to develop a man crush on Ryan Kalil. i think he would bring some great competition and youth to our center position and o line.

I really like what the Jets did last year addressing the LT position (D'Brickashaw) then Center (Nick Mangold) w/1st two picks. they completly overhauled the line in one draft, something the Texans have failed to do in 5 years.

Ryan Kalil stock is rising however into the 1st rd. so I'm not holding my breath that he lasts until the Texans pick again. I'd also hate to pass on the best player available especially a cb if the Texans guy falls here that should be the pick as far as "Man Love" for a second rd. corner its Chris Houston. then opt for the best Center available in the 3rd like a Doug Datish. those would be three realistic "Man Love" picks-

1. Levi Brown
2. Chris Houston
3. Doug Datish

I could more than live with this. I'm still not sold on Levi above 15, but I do like this draft.

Jamaal Anderson, after the combine I think there will be a few more that will be smitten with him. Unfortunately I don' think he will be there at #8. That is why I also have a flirtatious eye for Gaines Adams. The thought of Reggie White on one side and Julius Peppers on the other, makes me feel the tuning fork in my loins.
