Just throwing this out there.

What do ya'll think about Sage Rosenfels being the Texans' starting QB in 2007...2008.....?

I don't think it's that bad of an idea. Any guy that can come in and throw for 199 yards and 3 TDs in one half is a guy I want to see get more playing time. He looks DOWN the field and takes chances, something David Carr doesn't do. Sage and Owen have shown some chemistry when they've hooked up in the past. I'd like to see the Texans explore this option.
 
I like what i've seen from sage so far. the only problem i see though is that we havnt seen enough of him. i don't like hearing people talking about making him our starter because imo we've seen very limited action of him...what we've seen has been good though.

he might be starter material or he may just be a back up qb. either way i'd like him to stay on the team...he's done a good job and if all we need him for is limit time during a few games...he's at least shown us he can take care of business. About him being a starter...i have no idea

still, all David would have been doing is checking down to a RB like he ALWAYS does.

Here's some food for thought: Does our offensive line block better for Sage Rosenfels than they do for David Carr? Actually think about it.

Sage hardly ever goes down. Sage throws to whoever he wants to, when he wants to. David just looks like a sick puppy with his tail between his legs.

Wow this guy is a superstar. How could the Redskins and Dolphins let him go... oh well their loss. And to think he's a back-up his entire career.

I don't think the line says, hey Sage is in, not david lets block. The line gets paid to play regardless of who's back there. I think it more that the defense knows Carr isn't going to throw or look down field, so they are able to blitz, because even if they don't get to Carr they aren't going to give up a play of more than 7 yards. When Sage came into the game, its more, "Dang we didn't watch any tape on this guy and we don't know what the hell he's capable of."
 
It's been apparent to me that our offensive line doesn't block for David Carr the way they block for Sage Rosenfels. Is it just one of those things that happens in a football game...or does our offensive line simply not want to block for David Carr? Do they want him gone?

So, with what you just said, why keep David around if you're Gary Kubiak or Rick Smith? Why not just go with Sage from the get-go?

I think it is a matter of "there just wasn't anything going on" to bring them together as a unit until late in the season, like the Indy win. Those sort of wins can start to gel a team. And once they start believing in their own minds they can compete, you will see a team on the field that you have never seen before...even if it is the same old players. :twocents:

no way you think carr sux...wait until sage starts....he is not even close to being as mobile as david is.....that would be dumb to start sage....give it time guys we dont need to replace carr necessarily this year...

I wouldn't mind the idea of Sage being endorsed as our starting QB. I as a person who buys tickets to the Texans, wouldn't mind seeing someone different other than Carr. You are right though Sage did a wonderful thing during the Titans game.

You know ,the Astros should take a hard look at James Loney (1B LA). He had a .750 batting average last year! The best part is that he was born in Houston!

I just know from his one game and four at-bats, he'd be much better than our current 1st baseman, Lance something-or-other.

Well, I'd definitely want to keep him around as a backup. But Sage as the starter? Hmmm ... I don't know.
I mean, it is great that he takes chances down the field, but he only does that because he is a backup qb and knows that he can get away with more because the fans don't expect him to win the game.
If we make him the starter, and he starts throwing interceptions while taking those chances, well, people will be calling for his head the same way that they are calling for Carr's now.

That is a ridiculous comment really. They are all paid based on their game film...nobody will devalue their next contact out of something petty. The QB has a ton to do with how a line looks on a given play. Your footwork, feel for the rush, knowing where to slide to buy an extra second to get a pass off while the routes are developing are important qualities in a QB...and DC struggles in this area...always has. I think the line just wants good QB play from their QB....nothing much more than that.

David Carr is the root of our offensive problem. Guys don't respond to him like they seem to respond to Sage Rosenfels. I'm using the preseason and the second half in Tennessee as my basis for this argument...to go along with our offensive (lack of) performance over the past...ohhh i don't know...5 seasons. If you notice, David Carr only looks to pass to #80, that's it. If he's not open, he checks down to Lundy or Daniels for a BS 4 or 5 yard pass play. He doesn't look down the field, like he should or even notice that Eric Moulds is ALSO on the team. I'm tired of everyone making excuses for this guy. Other NFL QBs manage to go deep against 2 and 3 deep zone coverages, why can't David?? It's time we stop holding this guy's hand and be done with him already. By my count, we've wasted 5 years and $53 million on this guy. Enough is enough. Bring in Sage!!
 
I think Sage should start......

The Houston Texans... David Carr story isn't done yet. We need to prove our line can/can't protect a QB before we can say it's time for David to stay/go.

Personally I don't think we'll ever be able to build a decent line until we have a different QB. Not that our line doesn't block for David, but David doesn't help our line. Most QBs in the NFL helps their line.

We need to see how our line does with another QB. It doesn't make sense to pay this guy anything really just to see him get beat up.

Imagine Sage gets his but handed to him, goes on injured reserve, then we'll all be too happy to see David (Iron Man) Carr come in to save our season.

I wouldn't. I would rather see a newly acquired Kevin Kolb or Troy Smith come in and play QB for us if Sage went down with an injury. Maybe even Jake The Snake if he decides to come here.

David is dog food. It's not just a physical football thing anymore with David, it's mental also. He's already got it in his mind that he can't be protected at any time. And personally, I don't think our offensive line WANTS David Carr anymore. The only O-Lineman I've actually heard advocate Carr's staying here is Steve McKinney.
 
I'm not sold on Sage as a starter. He did look much more comfortable in the pocket in the preseason than DC. And in the little bit of the Cowboy game and in the end of the Titans' game, he looked great. But he played a little bit against the Jags and got eaten for breakfast, iirc. He might be fine in a Trent Dilfer kind of role if we decide to go defense and RB in this draft; but then again, DC might as well.

I think Carr is extremely lucky that there's not a great crop of QB's in the draft this year and I don't think there are any big name free agents.

I just want the job thrown open and let the best QB win be it Sage, DC, Van Pelt, Porter, Owen Daniels, or someone brand new.

We only let him throw the ball three time in that Jacksonville game. I really think Kubiak didn't want to see Sage shine........ save himself a headache if you know what I mean.

I just don't believe that David gave us the best chance to win last year, and I don't see how he can give us the best chance to win next year. I'm not totally against Carr starting in '07, I just don't want to start the year with Carr. I'd like for him to watch the game, with Kubiak in his ear for a few games...... few meaning 6 or 8....

I think it would be better for all of us to be get a good look at the rest of the talent we have on this team. Some folks are even calling out Eric Moulds for crying out loud, and his stats have never taken as sharp a decline as it has since he's come to Houston. The problem is not Moulds.... that should be obvious.

I think that Sage is a great veteran backup. That should remain his role.
 
Regardless of who we bring in, I want every QB on a an equal platform for the starting job. Whoever wins it, keeps it until they lose it and someone else gets a shot. It shouldn't be a whole lot to ask for.
 
I wonder if Peyton Manning could function in the offenses Carr has had to work with. My biggest questions/concerns are:
1. Is Carr just plain old shell shocked from the pounding he's taken?
2. Is our offense such a plain vanilla type because of Carr's inability to
the whole playbook or is what we've seen the whole playbook?
3. Which came first, the shell-shock or the inability to utilize the whole
playbook?
4. What have we seen on offense that would lead us to believe that ANY
single player would put us over the top talent and scheme-wise?
5. Why do other teams always make the proper adjustments?

IMO, Carr needs a fresh start with an established offense. I think he could be effective in that scenario. The playbook has been dumbed down due to a number of things and we are SEVERAL GOOD OLmen from being anything resembling a good offense. I would rather see us concentrate on defense this draft since it is deep there and pretty weak on OL.
I doubt it will make a world of difference if Carr or Sage starts this season. I hope the footing is even and the best man wins.

lol veteran, okay so does that mean this up coming year david is a veteran too. This will be his 6th year too and i believe Sages' 7th.

For those arguing carr vs rosenfelds think on this a second is it possible we have 2 backs and no starters so we pick the best backup we have which to my mind is Sage.

My vote is we've been vanilla because of Carr. Carr has a disease and its called not my fault disease. And you mentioned manning.

Manning goes to work in a shirt an tie.
Carr goes to work in a knit cap pushed over his eyes. Or a baseball hat pushed on his head sideways looking like he just crawled out of some gang meeting somewhere.

if you want to be sucessful you need to look act and breath the part. Manning, Brady do. Think of those who are great and who presented themselves in the same way Carr has. I can't think of any.

To me this speak very loudly to why carr must go period.
Carr makes excuses. He refuses to accept responsibility. He doesn't take his job as the CEO of the offense serious.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Carr recently said that he didn't care if we won or lost, as long as he got to play football, he didn't care where he was at. What kind of **** talks like that?

He said it in an offseason TV interview on ABC 13 Sports. i haven't checked but there's probably a transcript of the interview on their website.

Actually, he said it a year or two ago before a Bills game when the team had been playing very poorly. The point was that it wan't a make a break game as he was asked, but that it was important to play well and get the team on track and playing well.

I think what he said was ... even though the Texans were losing he was still having fun because he enjoyed his being with his teamates .
 
After the last game of the season a reporter asked him if he wanted to be back next year or if he'd be somewhere else(trade), and Carr said he wanted to stay because...
he hates having to move, it's such a hassle.
Then after realizing how that sounded, he went into BS mode and gave the answers that are related to football..wanting to be part of the future of the franchise, blah, blah, blah.
So the #1 reason David wants to stay our QB is that he doesn't want to be inconvenienced with having to move.
