Who do you think the Texans well pick as their first round choice in this years upcoming NFL draft?

Spencer can play guard as well, he's got the size for it.
 
i really, really hope that if landry or hall are our picks it's later than #8 after a trade down. i picked branch.
 
I am really strating to feel Cleveland is gonna take AP. There fore I see us taking Levi Brown, Amobi Okoye, Reggie Nelson, Gaines Adams, or Jamaal Anderson. The only pick i'd be upset about would be marshawn lynch at #8. leon hall is borderline too unless he shows us he's the best CB in the world.
 
Out of the players listed I picked branch, but only because I'm starting to think AP is going to be gone by the time we come up...I think our FO will shore up our defense with a disruptive DT in branch (or perhaps a disruptive DE to pair up with Mario) and then look for bpa with our second round pick (I'm hoping we take care of cb or s in fa and that we pick up Rufus Alexander to team up with Demeco at the LB position). But there is a lot of talent out there on the defensive side of the ball and will be interesting to see how things unfold come draft day.
 
I voted Landry because I think we'll trade down. Landry and Okoye are two guys you could trade down and still get IMO.

Honestly, though, could we be disappointed with any of the following players?

AP or Lynch: I'd be OK with it, preferring AP by a mile.

Branch or Adams: Another DL pick might be necessary to make up for TJ who was obviously a "reach."

Levi Brown or Mozes (C): Two guys who looked like they owned the field in the Senior Bowl.

Landry or Nelson: Seems to be a couple of solid DBs IMO.

Okoye: Looks like a Mini Mario to me, and could be a great distraction on the other end of the line, opposite Mario.

Seriously, there is DEEP talent on both sides of the ball in this year's draft. I am still adamant that Kubiak will not draft a RB with that high of a pick. I think we stay on defense again, and the guys I listed (above) SEEM to be guys with natural talent and skills--Guys like Dunta Robinson who you know will make an immediate impact. Okoye is the only real gamble because of his age, but man-oh-man you get an extra 3 years out of him because he's only 19 right now.

Speaking of Dunta, I think it would make him really happy to get some star-quality help out there with him. He deserves a boost for staying with this team in spite of us never drafting a DB (other than him) with a high pick.

With all of that being said, we cannot rule out the free agent moves that will allow us to see where we might be headed with our draft position. Should be interesting to see it all shake out over the next 3 months.

I think the defensive talent is much deeper than offensive talent in this draft, I think we can find a defensive player as late as the 3rd round that should be able to start for at least half the season for us, I don't share that same optimism for offensive players.

There are two good QBs in this draft that should be able to start within a year or so (JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn), but beyond those two everyone left have some fairly significant questions about their game and I don't know that I'd expect any of them to become starting QBs within their first 2 years in the league, if ever, which would make me very hesitant to take any one of the others above the 3rd round, if even that high. However, I do think that several of those other guys can be solid backups.

There are two very good RBs in this draft that are locks for the 1st round (Adrian Peterson and MarShawn Lynch). I personally think Peterson is a decent bit better than Lynch and it sounds like most NFL people are quite high on Peterson being a stud and think Lynch should be an immediate, solid contributor. Likewise, after those two I'm not real sold on any of the remaining guys. Michael Bush should be solid depending on how well his broken leg has healed. Any of the other guys I have pretty serious doubts about being "franchise" backs that can carry the main load effectively for their teams. There are several bigger backs (Tony Hunt, Dwayne Wright, Tyrone Moss), a few change of pace speed backs (Lorenzo Booker, Garrett Wolfe), and some other decently solid scatbacks that are unspectacular (Kenny Irons, Antonio Pittman, Brandon Jackson, etc). There are a decent amount of these guys that should be able to contribute on a situational basis, but other than Peterson and Lynch I really don't know how much you can expect out of any of the remaining guys, and for our particular team I probably wouldn't look to take any of them above the 4th round. Several of them will go before then and will be graded above a 4th round prospect, but I just don't trust that most of them can make much of an impact for our team enough to use a 1st day pick on one, other than Michael Bush if he's healed and has a good workout (i.e. he has good enough speed to where he can be a big play threat).

This class of WRs is pretty stacked. Calvin Johnson is as good of a prospect as we've seen in quite some time. There are some big, talented possession receivers (Dwayne Jarrett, Dwayne Bowe, etc.), some burners (Ted Ginn, Paul Williams, Johnnie Lee Higgins, etc.), and some other guys that are a good mixture of the two (Sidney Rice, Robert Meachem, Anthony Gonzalez, etc). We should be able to find a guy somewhere in the 2nd day that can help us stretch the field and be a deep play threat. This is as good of a WR class as we've seen in a while.

The group of OLinemen are intriguing, there are several guys at all the positions that look like they could be talented players, although they are sometimes the hardest ones to predict, and most generally take a couple years to really come into their own in the NFL. Joe Thomas is an elite prospect at LT, after him Levi Brown is a solid 1st rounder and could end up being a good LT and should at least be a very good RT or OG. Joe Staley reportedly has some amazing measurables (we'll see how he does at the Combine), but hasn't played against top-level competition and didn't look very good at the Senior Bowl, so I don't know how high he'll end up going and how much can be expected out of him early on. Others like Arron Sears and Tony Ugoh have looked decent but may end up being better at OG in the NFL, and neither are very good fits for our system. Ryan Harris looks like he'd be a good fit for our system but he's struggled at times, including much of the Senior Bowl week. James Marten and Brandon Frye are some late-round prospects that could end up being nice depth at OT for our OLine as well, and I think that's all we should be looking for in this draft as Spencer and Winston look like they should be our long-term starters at OT. The interior OLinemen are also pretty deep in this draft. Justin Blalock has a lot of hype around him but I haven't been especially impressed. Either way he should be a 1st round pick. Ben Grubbs looked quite solid all year long and had a strong Senior Bowl week, he might have fought his way into a low 1st to high 2nd round pick, if he somehow fell to the 3rd I'd definitely give him serious consideration there, I don't know that I'd use our 2nd on him, not that he's not worth it moreso that there will likely be better players available there. Josh Beekman also had a pretty solid season and played both C and OG, plus Boston College OLinemen are generally coached quite well. I think he'd also be a good fit for our system and would definitely look at him if he fell to the 3rd round, he could play either OG or C for us, both are positions that we should be looking to upgrade with a new starter. Ryan Kalil is a solid prospect at C, and will likely be a 1st day pick. I'd definitely take Beekman over him, but if he somehow falls to the 4th I'd likely have to take him (unless we go Beekman in the 3rd). After those guys, there are several prospects that look fairly solid but I wouldn't count on any of them being able to contribute much in their 1st year, so I would only be looking at them in the 5th round or later.

Defensive line is quite stacked this year. Gaines Adams and Jamaal Anderson are both likely top 10 picks, the Combine workouts could help determine who is the favorite, or it could just depend on whether a team is looking for a pure pass rusher (Adams) or a guy that is more solid against the run (Anderson). My personal preference would be Anderson as we've had enough problems stopping the run this year when our smaller pass rushers (Babin, Peek) come into the game. Adams is better than either of them, but I'd prefer a guy like Anderson that can provide good pressure off the edge but also stand up to the run as well. After those two, there are a host of guys that could find themselves in the 1st round (Adam Carriker, Quentin Moses, Charles Johnson, Jarvis Moss, and Victor Abiamiri) and should be able to contribute immediately, several of those guys could play WDE in a 4-3 or OLB in a 3-4. Outside of those guys, there are several players that should be available in the 3rd round or later that should be able to provide solid pass rush (Anthony Spencer, Ikaika Alama-Francis, Dan Bazuin, Baraka Atkins, Tim Crowder, Jay Moore, LaMarr Woodley won't be there in the 3rd but he's another), so we should be able to find someone throughout the draft that can be a pass rush option. Additionally, there are several solid DTs in this draft. Alan Branch and Amobi Okoye are locks to be taken in the 1st half of the 1st round. Likewise with them their Combine workouts will likely greatly influence who goes first, and similarly it will also depend on the system/role that the drafting teams are looking for. Branch could be a 4-3 DT or play any spot on the DLine in a 3-4. Amobi Okoye is much more of a penetrating player rather than a run stopper and would be better suited for a 4-3, but could maybe play a 3-4 DE. After those two, DeMarcus Tyler and Quinn Pitcock could also find their way into the late 1st round. Both are relatively on the small side and more of penetrating DTs as opposed to gap pluggers and both would probably be better suited for a 4-3 DT than a 3-4 DL. Justin Harrell, Kareem Brown, Brandon Mebane, and others are all solid prospects as well, so we should be able to find a solid DT in the 3rd round, maybe even the 4th if we are looking for one, and many of those in there are more of the penetrating type that we need.

This is also a quite strong crop of LBs. Paul Posluszny, Lawrence Timmons, and Patrick Willis should all be 1st round picks. Jon Beason, Rufus Alexander, Earl Everett, David Harris, Buster Davis, and HB Blades are all solid prospects that could end up being 2nd rounders, and possibly one or more of them could fall to our 3rd round pick, and all of them would be an upgrade over what we have, although some aren't a good fit at SLB, which is our biggest need among that group. There are also several LBs that should end up falling to the 2nd day that could be solid picks and could end up contributing a lot for our defense.

This is looking like a pretty strong group of CBs. Leon Hall and Darelle Revis should both be 1st rounders, likely in the top half of the 1st round and should both be able to contribute a lot of solid playing time their rookie season. I really like Chris Houston as well but fear he may end up flying into the 1st round as well, but if he's around in the 2nd he should be one of our top options there. Additionally, Marcus McCauley, Josh Wilson, Aaron Ross, Daymeion Hughes, and Fred Bennett would all likely be able to beat Petey out for our other starting CB well before the 2007 season is over, and one or more of them should last to our 3rd round pick. Jonathan Wade, Eric Wright, Tarell Brown, or even Tanard Jackson would also be solid considerations if any of them last to the 4th round.

This is a pretty stout group of FS/SS this year as well. LaRon Landry and Reggie Nelson should both be pretty high 1st round picks. I hope Brandon Meriweather ends up falling to our 2nd round pick, if he does it will be because of character/attitude concerns as his on-field play definitely warrants a 1st round pick. Michael Griffin is another solid option that could play SS or FS and may fall to the 2nd round but could very likely be a 1st rounder as well. Eric Weddle is another solid player, I don't like him enough to use our 2nd rounder but I'd definitely consider him in the 3rd round if he falls that far, I think he could be a pretty solid starting FS for us. Outside of these guys, I'm not real high on any of the others, although there are some intriguing prospects out there, some good athletes, some bigger guys, etc. Aaron Rouse, Josh Gattis, and Michael Johnson could all warrant consideration in the 4th or 5th rounds if available, outside of that I don't know that I like any of the remaining guys enough to use anything above a 5th rounder on.

Anyways, this ended up being a much longer post than I anticipated, just thought I'd throw out a bunch of names and where we should be willing to consider a lot of those guys in the draft, maybe help people visualize what rounds we can expect to find solid players at various positions.

P.S. I voted for Adrian Peterson. If he's there at #8 he's easily my 1st choice and I think he would be the top choice of the team as well. If he's not there, I'd consider Jamaal Anderson, and maybe Amobi Okoye, Leon Hall, or LaRon Landry there, otherwise I'd be looking to trade down a few picks and grab whoever is remaining out of this group or look for Patrick Willis, Darelle Revis or Chris Houston, maybe Reggie Nelson, Brandon Meriweather, or Michael Griffin,

Of these particular guys I'd take Jamaal Anderson or Amobi Okoye, definitely leaning more toward Anderson at this point, Leon Hall and LaRon Landry would have an outside chance if they have a phenomenal workout. At this point I'd only give it around a 1/3 chance that the Browns take Adrian Peterson, and I don't see anyone else in there taking him, so I think there is a decent chance that he'll fall to us, but a lot of things can happen between now and the draft.
