DE anderson or adams whos better?

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/de/gainesadams.html

nfldraftcountdown.com has scouting reports on some of the players, below is gaines adams...they dont have jamaal andersons up yet.

Great post, I've been wondering the same thing. A lot of people on here seem to think anderson is better. someone said he's like mario...but i have no idea.

Gaines Adams
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 260 | 40-Time: 4.75

Official Bio

Strengths:
An outstanding athlete...Extremely quick and agile with very good speed...Has a tremendous first step and a great burst to close...Has very long arms and uses his hands well...Has the frame to get bigger and develop physically...Looks fluid when dropping into coverage...A terror in opponents backfields and just seems to have a knack for getting to the quarterback...Productive and disruptive...Versatile and also has the ability to play outside linebacker for a 3-4 team at the pro level.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the ideal bulk you look for and needs to add some weight...Does not play the run nearly as well as he does the pass...Needs to get stronger...Can play with better pad level and leverage...Struggles when blockers are able to lock on...Might be a bit of a DE / OLB 'tweener...Becomes somewhat one-dimensional at times...Will get overly aggressive and run himself out of plays...Intelligence???

Notes:
Played eight-man football in high school and then spent a year at Fork Union Prep before coming to Clemson and redshirting in 2002...Seriously considered coming out after his junior season but was given a very conservative grade by the NFL's underclassmen advisory panel and chose to go back to school...Has been as good as any defensive end in the nation the past two years...Top natural pass rusher.

if you want a pure pass rusher, adams. his quickness is second to none. anderson is a power guy who can run, but he's not at the same level as mario athletically. i would rather have adams. mario and adams compliment each other's styles and you can switch them up to create mismatches against the tackles throughout the game to keep them on their heels.

Adams is a better DE, but Anderson may turn out to be better. Neither are as good as Mario. Moss is the best speed rusher this year, followed by Brazerbaun and Adams. Anderson is a converted WR though. Quinten Moses and Charles Johnson are good options that may be available in the second round.

I'm really warming up to selecting Gaines Adams..depending who's on the board. If so just think if he and Mario improve to the point so many think they can. It'd be like having Julius Peppers and Dwight Freeny on the same team. I can smell the best defense in the league in a few years.

Do you mean Dan Bazuin? If so I also wouldn't mind picking him up in the 4th as a situational pass rusher if he is available. He was productive in college (level of play is a factor) and was dominant in the Shrine Bowl, named defensive player of the game. Due to the level of play he faced, I wouldn't use a day one pick on him though.

Adams is a specialist at pass rush but not that great at run defense. Anderson is a well-rounded DE, plays pass and run real good. IMO i think anderson is better and would a better fit for us. I would much prefer a 2-headed monster than a 1-headed unicorn.:winky:

Let's see what combine tale of the tape says. Right now, I go with Anderson, size and overall better game. Scouting reports say Anderson is as good agaisnt the run as he is a pass rusher. Adams gets high marks as a pass rusher but needs to improve in stopping the run.

I really dont know much about either of them, i would appreciate it, if yall gave me some info...thanks

Jamaal Anderson to me is more of a tweener, big for 4-3 weakside & smallish for 4-3 strongside, too small for a 3-4 end. coming out of high school he was a standout receiver that played both sides I think he broke Keith Jacksons receiving records. Jamaal has grown into the position, his long arms help him shed blockers but because he lacks strength if they do latch on he has to rely on second effort.

Gains Adams is a classic 4-3 RDE he has that explosive first step, also athletic with excellent speed in pursuit on the backside. would be a much better fit for the Texans with Mario playing strong side. Also from watching him play with his range & speed he possess some coverage skills that would assist the LB's underneath. Gaines is a smaller, downsized version of Mario Williams they would combine to be the top young bookends in the NFL.

If we took either of these guys, would Weaver be big/strong enough to stand the pounding on the inside? We all know that he isnt much of a threat against the pass....but is he the right guy to be an everydown DT?

Im looking at a DL of

Williams......Weaver......TJ/Payne/Maddox.....Adams/Anderson

How would that stand up against the run?

the guy i think we should be looking at is tim crowder...i think he had a pretty good week at the senior bowl and he'll probably be there in round 3...but for the question of the thread i'm going to say adams will be the better player...while anderson has more potential i look at him and seem a smaller version of mario...unless he runs an amazing 40 time that's my opinion...by the way...if anyone saw the senior bowl you would have saw adam carriker do what mario williams is supposed to do...reck shop...hopefully with a simplier job and a full healthy season he can start coming into his own

Playboy, you do understand the NFL. I hate this statement you made. A guy has a good SENIOR bowl showing and you mean to tell me you are comparing Mario to this guy b'cuz of a SENIOR bowl showing. C'mon dogg get real with yourself mann. Mario would have the same performance or maybe a better one if he played in the SENIOR bowl last year. Let's see what carriker do after 1 NFL season and then we can compare him to Mario and see if he does what he is suppose to do. :mario:
P.S.
You also can say that carriker's teammate #44 had a better SENIOR bowl performance then carriker did. That's who he needs to be compared to right now.

adam carriker was just as dominant this year as mario williams was his junior season. they both had the same effect on the opposing offense. teams gameplanned for them.

This phrase irritates me like no other...the idea that coaches, generally defined to be controlling, detail driven pepople who look at film for hours on end and work 70 hour weeks dont gameplan for a starter on the opposing team is downright stupid. Im pretty sure they gameplan for everybody! :aikido:

i agree that mario probably would have dominated had he played in a senior bowl...but the MO on mario coming out of college was that he takes plays or games off...most of his stakes came against maryland who still do no have a nfl caliber offensive tackle...mario can be dominant and he can reck shop...but he has to stay focused and motivated through out the game...with adam carriker you don't hear that he takes plays off...because he doesn't...i've seen adam up close and personal on the field...i know he's mentality...i also know what kind of a player jay moore is...both are high motor guys...adam of course has more physical talent...but even with all of that i think carriker is probably best suited for the DE position in the 3-4 scheme...i see a lot of richard seymour in him...jay moore is a lot like a matt schobel type player

Gaines Adams is the better pure pass rusher but from what I've seen of the two my personal preference (especially for our team) would be Jamaal Anderson as he can provide pass rush and is solid against the run.

yeah we already have a strong side DE in mario...now we need a speed rusher opposite him to account for some of the double teams...adams would be good...so would woodley in the 2nd, crowder in the 3rd, spencer in the 3rd, hickman 6th, keyunta dawson 7th

here's a question for you guys...does anyone think we're bringing back antwaan peek next year?

I think that would be highly doubtful. I don't think he gives you the value for the money he is going to want.

I don't know that he'd be expecting all that much money given he wasn't an especially high draft pick and hasn't earned overly much so far plus he hasn't produced a ton on the field. I think he'll be back for the right price, but they're not going to open up the checkbook too much for him.

They didn't come against Gaither though. Gaither shut him down, as well as Lawson that game. He shut down Wimbly last year too.

I think it is amazing how underrated Woodley is in this draft.

If he falls to the 2nd I see no reason why we should pass on him.
