What IF?

K.D.

Waterboy
Adrian Peteson is gone by the 8th pick and we don't find anyone to trade with and the sticky situation is that Brady Quinn is the one who has actually fell this far and we pick him with our pick.
Will we as TEXANS fans be totally bummed about the pick or do we think this guy may have a shot to show that he can lead this team the way Kubes wants it done? Just curious about what people would think & just think, this might very well could happen.

There is no way on god's green earth that Minnesota would pass on Quinn in the unlikely scenario that he's there at 7. They aren't sold on Jackson...

i know i'd be pretty bummed out, but i wouldn't boycott texans games. i guess we could do worse than Quinn, but i'm not seeing much to him. cant win against decent teams, plain and simple. i see AP, landry/nelson, or DE with the 8 spot.

Man I hope your right, cuz to me Quinn seems similar to Carr in alot of ways.

IF Quinn is the guy that fell to us and kubiak/smith select him. I won't be the happiest camper at all, I'd rather somone else. But that says a lot to me that they selected him and they know a lot more than i do. I would pray they let him learn how to lead our offense before putting him in and then i would pray he's the real deal and our franchise QB. There isn't much else we could do..

I am on the Anderson or Adams bandwagon so if they are there then I am very pleased.

I think Detroit needs to draft him. They need a better QB and A.J. Hawk can sack him a few times twice a year for a long time. His sister would be pissed.

Not that i am a huge Brady Quinn Fan... I just don't see the comparison really.

Just had to go there...

anyway, if AP isnt there at 8 I would much rather we draft Anderson, Branch, Nelson or Landry over Quinn

i tell you what...if we get to the 8th pick in the draft...adrian is gone...quinn is still there and no one will trade down...reach for a better player...levi brown, amobi okoye, laron landry, reggie nelson, paul posluszny, etc...i can keep going and going...but i do not want brady quinn here in houston at all...period...end of story

I guess it depends on how you color your coffee in the mornings. Adams will be the fastest and quickest out of the group. He would be the compliment to
Mario. But I'm a little guy shy visa vie guys who make several big plays in a season vs guys who have posted a better body of work durring their careers. Which bings us to Anderson. He is stouter and will bring the run stuffing ablity
which will be a liablity with Adams...JMHO. Carriker is so close to Mario, I don't see the point. Slower than Mario with just as an effective high end motor. Anderson, best overall up side. Adams, playmaker quicker, compliments Mario very well. Carriker, zero sum gain. Just the way I see it. You could be correct, and I could be wrong . We'll see what they do in the combine.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, they just drafted Tavaris last year (and used a 2nd round pick on him at that), I don't think they've given him appropriate time to show whether or not he is going to be their guy. I personally have my doubts, but I don't see them taking Quinn at #7.

That said, if Peterson is gone and a few others are gone (I personally would take Jamaal Anderson, Amobi Okoye, or probably LaRon Landry, Leon Hall, and maybe a few others before taking Quinn) then there is a decent chance that the Texans would end up taking Brady Quinn at #8, but if anything I think that would increase their chance of trying to trade down as a few teams in the next several picks could be willing to offer a decent trade package to move up and grab Quinn. If we can't get a decent trade offer though I think there would be a legitimate chance that they would pull the trigger on Quinn.

I thought Quinn actually moved responded well to pressure in the bowl game. He might actually be pretty good.

I would go into an absolute rage if we draft a QB at any point in this draft the very next year after we passed on the best QB class in about 20 years.

I don't know about that....

They spent a second on Jackson last year, and in every game that I've seen him play he's looked pretty good. Personally I think he's going to be a pretty good player. They may not be completely sold on him, but we aren't completely sold on our QB either. That didn't stop us from passing on Leinart or Vince. I just don't think they give up on a guy they are high on so soon.

If Peterson isn't there, trade back, and take best Defensive player or OL available.

there you go, but I'd like to take Branch if he was there at #8. i wouldnt be disappointed if we move down IF AP isnt there.

I've gone back and forth over what we should do with that eighth pick.

I think With Dayne, Lundy, Gado, and Taylor we should have enough talent to form a solid run game.

I think if we bring in Plummer we should be o.k at the QB position between Him, Sage, and Carr.

Other needs that I see as possible picks in the first: DE, OL, DB

Assuming that we will be o.k at the QB position, and our current RB's can get the job done, I would like to see us take Alan Branch, Amobi Okoye, or Gaines Adams if we stay at the 8 spot.

If we trade back to the 9-13 range I'd like Reggie Nelson, Levi Jones, or Laron Landry.

I really wouldn't like to see us trade back any farther than that unless the deal is pretty sweet.

Back to the Quinn thread...some will find this profile from Scouts, Inc to be quite interesting:

Quinn will finish his collegiate career with tremendous experience as a four-year starter; the final two of which he has thrived in Weis' pro-style offensive scheme. He possesses a fine blend of arm strength, size and intelligence. Quinn also possesses adequate quickness in the pocket and overall athleticism for his size. However, while he has all the physical tools to excel in the NFL, Quinn will need the right scheme and solid pass protection in order to reach his full potential. From that standpoint, Quinn draws comparisons to David Carr (Texans), who was the top overall pick in 2002. Quinn made huge strides under Weis, but there also have been too many peaks and valleys throughout his career for our liking. He racked up excellent production against sub-par competition but had his share of struggles versus upper-echelon defenses, even during his best two seasons as a junior and senior. Overall, Quinn remains the top senior quarterback prospect in the 2007 class, but his grade has dropped a bit as a senior.

I've gone back and forth over what we should do with that eighth pick.

I think With Dayne, Lundy, Gado, and Taylor we should have enough talent to form a solid run game. We should have a decent quartet in those guys that can crank out some yardage but unless Chris Taylor shows some drastic improvement we still will be lacking a consistent playmaker in the backfield and our running game won't be any kind of real threat. We need to get a playmaker at RB somehow.

I think if we bring in Plummer we should be o.k at the QB position between Him, Sage, and Carr. We won't have Carr, Plummer, and Sage here next year. If we bring in Jake Plummer it will either be coupled with a trade of David Carr or a release of Sage Rosenfels. The Broncos empire has never looked to carry three QBs on the active roster for very long, especially when one would be costing $7.25 million against the cap (Carr), one would likely be costing at least $3-4 million against the cap (Plummer) and then a 3rd guy costing $1.6 million against the cap (Rosenfels). If they do keep a 3rd QB around, it would be a young guy that they can groom for the future that is either a significant prospect for the future (i.e. a draft pick in the 4th round or above) or else someone they can leave on practice squad without fear of another team grabbing him (like Porter this year).

Other needs that I see as possible picks in the first: DE, OL, DB DE and DB are a distinct possibility, I really don't see them using a 1st rounder on an OLineman. It isn't the Denver style to use one that high and they can find good fits for our system later (yes they don't take RBs in the 1st round either, but at some point you need a playmaker at RB, you don't need a high 1st round OLineman). Additionally, unless Joe Thomas falls to us at #8 there isn't another prospect that is worth that pick. I also think the staff is quite satisfied with Spencer and Winston being our starting OTs going forward, they could definitely use a new starter on the interior and depth all across the line, but neither of those require a 1st round pick. I think our 1st round pick will either be Adrian Peterson or else a DLineman (Anderson, Okoye, or Adams) or a DBack, if not them then a trade down.

Assuming that we will be o.k at the QB position, and our current RB's can get the job done, I would like to see us take Alan Branch, Amobi Okoye, or Gaines Adams if we stay at the 8 spot. Don't like Branch or Adams, Okoye or Jamaal Anderson would be better options at the #8 for us.

If we trade back to the 9-13 range I'd like Reggie Nelson, Levi Jones, or Laron Landry. All would be decent options there, along with Leon Hall, Patrick Willis, maybe Darelle Revis or Marshawn Lynch. However, I still don't see a 1st rounder on an OT even after a trade back. I would add though that if one of these guys end up being our top pick in the draft we better get a 2nd round pick or a 3rd and something else in the trade so we can likely add at least one more starter in this process than what we otherwise would have done.

I really wouldn't like to see us trade back any farther than that unless the deal is pretty sweet. Agreed.

Comments in red. You've got a pretty good thought process going.

Yeah but you already got people making snide remarks about him about his gender sense...Quinn wuold be a dead duck on this board as soon as he's picked. That plus and this is kinda my reoccuring All Day theme, why are you goning to bring in another QB prosprospect in when your'e 0line is a train wreck ? I mean how many more guys are you going to squander on the NFL alter before, you fix the thing that is killing them ? Makes no sense to me. The only thing Quinn means to us at this point in the franchises history...he makes pretty good trade down fodder. That's it. Same as All Day.
