The New York Giants have hired Chris Palmer as their quarterbacks coach, giving Eli Manning a new mentor for 2007.

The highly-respected Palmer served last year as the Dallas Cowboys' quarterbacks coach. He was granted permission last week to meet with Giants' officials, and his addition to Tom Coughlin's staff will be officially announced early in the week.

Palmer also worked for Coughlin in 1997-98, as quarterbacks coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and the two have remained close friends.

Ostensibly, Palmer replaces Kevin Gilbride, who was promoted to offensive coordinator three weeks ago. The Giants dismissed offensive coordinator John Hufnagel with one week remaining in the regular season.

Manning will join a long list of first-round quarterbacks who have worked with Palmer during his long tenure in the league. Some of the others include Drew Bledsoe, Tim Couch and David Carr. In addition, Palmer was instrumental in the development of Mark Brunell in Jacksonville.

I think Gilbride and Palmer will work well together. I don't think it's going to be a problem at all.

Now, throw Pendry in that mix and you got a HUGE problem.

I will never understand why Chris Palmer is "highly respected" around the league for his QB work. If I was him I would be dropping Couch and Carr from the resume.

Wow, Palmer and Gilbride...talk about some 'choke team' mojo there. Good luck to the Giants. Glad it's not my team, though.

Lucky for Cowboys haters everywhere, even though Palmer is leaving Dallas, Norv Turner may be coming in as head coach!

Chris Palmer doesn't make much of a head coach or an offensive coordinator, but he has certainly worked well with past QB's. I wish him well in working with Eli Manning.

Bledsoe, Parcells, Super Bowl right smack in the middle of the Big Boston media capitol.

and Couch was injured. So who knows? Maybe on year six, he was about to open the gates of hell and unleash destruction on the NFL's secondaries.

EDIT: and don't laugh. That's our super genius top secret weapon master plan.

Thats like saying:

Chris Palmer adopted out of a foster home the likes of Adolf Hiter, Sadam Hussein, Bundy, Dahmer.

Chris Palmer was head manager of Enron.

Chris Palmer was the quarterback coach for Tim Couch.

Or wait....he was...

Exactly which team that's had Palmer on its staff has ended up reaching the promised land by the time he's done?

Seriously, I am curious to know the strong allure Palmer has over NFL FOs.

Unreal.

You're never too awful to land yourself COMPLETELY out of the NFL, eh? It's like a big club...different night, same people.
