Why is heigh such an issue?

Working?
When its only 1-2 inches. I mean, seriously, every single negative thing I've read about Troy Smith mentions he has "serious height concerns." Really? He's 6' tall. I'd say the average NFL QB is somewhere between 6'2" and 6'5" There are a lot of 6'2" QBs and shorter. Does the extra 2" really add that much?

And even it does, out of the top QBs, 2 other notables come to mind who happen to be the exact same height as Troy Smith:
-Drew Brees
-Mike Vick

Anyway, I have zero desire to have Troy Smith, at least at this point, but I just find it hillarious how much playing ability goes to the trash can and how important measureables become. Someone can have 3 or 4 record breaking years but run 0.1 - 0.2 seconds slower than someone who with 3 or 4 average yeyars and still be taken later. Someone can have 3 or 4 record breaking years and be 1-2" shorter than the next guy and be taken rounds later.

Make sense? Not to me either. I'm sorry, but when you have NFL teams recruiting coaches out of college, and NFL coaches going to college programs, I don't think the staff differential is that high. So how is that a player with slightly better measureables but worse work ethic, stats, etc is looked at someone with "a lot more potential." In my opinion, if they didn't do much in college, its way worse than being "1 inch shorter than the average player at his position"

PS: Here is a list of all QBs within 2 inches of 6 feet:

McNabb
Romo
Brees
Brunell
Losman
Delhomme
McNair
Garrard
Kitna
Grossman
Favre
Plummer
Gradkowski

Height, release point, and arm length all matter. In Troy Smith's case he really had difficulty when he was forced into the pocket by Florida. It wouldn't have been an issue if he wasn't exploited so. Vick has similar problems and struggles to pass from the pocket, he's also the fastest QB ever, so he makes up for it. It was never an issue for Drew Brees. Maybe SMith can overcome it, but facing 6'6" lineman on both sides of the trenches, being 6' could be an issue. The issue never really is getting balls batted down, it's more about vision and throwing lanes. It's easy to see the advantage iwth being tall.

There's no way he's 6'0. Troy Smith is like 5'10. Did you watch the National Championship game? He looked like a midget.
want to bet money on that?

Yeah, no need to accept a measurment by a professional last week...

Ok guys we all know logic and facts are not the preferred tools of some people...it's all about rumor, and hersay and baseless opinions.

Pretty much sums it up right there.
