The "Peterson is Injury Prone" Myth

BradK10

Yes...that's right, myth.

I'm not sure of the details of his ankle injury sophomore year, but he fought through it.

The collarbone? Pfffft...please [/ozzie guillen] It was a fluke play.

Neither injury is something that lingers...like a blown knee or something. A broken collarbone is not something that haunts a player for his entire career.

Still there is some concern that he never logged a full season without missing games due to injury. Not going to be any easier staying healthy in the NFL.

He is "injury prone" because he plays like a man, he doesn't fear injuries. I want him. Keep in mind this is a Longhorn talking about a Sooner.

Keep in mind I couldn't care less about that junk. I don't mind having Peterson on this team one bit was just pointing out why there was the concern about injuries in my own opinion. I can't stand when college rivalries are taken too far, I don't let that stuff cloud my judgement, it's actually a pet peeve of mine.

He had a high ankle sprain which is hell to play thru or rush back (I suffered thru it in high school). It's basically hurting the ligaments on the inside ankle (on whichever foot) and it deals with the ligaments going over them. It limits flexibility, makes it hard to run and cut, and wearing braces or getting taped up is bothersom. Its just crazy that he was able to do anything and is a testament to his determination and toughness.

:drunk: Wow, a little on edge are we?

From the post, MT says that he wants him on his team; he wants the Texans to take him. What exactly are you talking about?:tease:

You don't let college rivalries cloud your judgement; that's just great! Doesn't sound like MT does either. If he did, he would have said something to the effect of, "I don't want AP b/c he's from OU and I don't like the Sooners" as opposed to, "I want AP even though he's on a college team that I route against".:shades:

What is wrong w/ people? Did you even read what was written?

Theres also another thing that I've seen written about AP that bothers me.

The whole he has too much miles on his legs...............how, if he was so injured, he's been sitting on the bench resting.

Peterson is a franchise back, that doesn't have the wear and tare, due to the fluke injuries.

Texas rode Benson into the ground, Oklahoma didn't have the chance to.

I understand that he's not "injury prone". However I am just as concerned that he may have these 'fluke' injuries every year that keep him sidelined. Him missing games is the problem no matter what the problem is. i would love to have him and he'd help our offense tremendously and be the fun playmaker to watch that we need. and kube may have been referring to.

Tell Charles Rogers a collarbone break doesn't linger or recur... Peterson also had shoulder surgery after his freshman season. That's one major injury per year, and he's supposed to be a man among boys in college. I think the injury concerns are valid... but I don't think that should stop any team from taking him. He's perfect for Houston, he's perfect for Cleveland. Here's hoping Cleveland blows it.

That only happens when you dont workout and you get skinny as a rail, something Rogers knows about and being lazy.

What back does not get banged up, he is fine, just like you say I hope Cleveland blows it too.:bubble:

******either rogers did not take care of himself or he is just injury prone with bad luck like Bennie.

Cleveland should draft Quinn...he's starting to grow on me.

How is he growing on you?

He's not even practicing at the Senior Bowl because of his mysterious knee injury.

What is making his stock go up?

Or is it just the fact that the stock for all the other QBs is dropping?

I've seen more tape on Quinn. He plays like Tom Brady at times, but dissapears in big games and loses accuracy at times, which is why I used to be against him. I think he's a project that could turn out pretty well.

I don't think Leinart played in the Senior Bowl either...

My point wasnt that he isnt playing in the Senior Bowl.

My point was how is his stock moving when he isnt doing anything?

i think quinn isnt playing in the senior bowl because he is almost guaranteed to be a top 10 pick. he is going to rely on his personal workout and ND's pro day to push him into the top 3-4. cant really blame him myself.

If anything, his stock is moving because of Tom Brady's play in the playoffs, but I just said I like him more than I used to.

broken bones dont make you injury prone. if a guy was tearing his hamstring or pulling muscles left and right or things of that nature, then that would be considered injury prone.

all football players are injury prone, that's the nature of the game. to hit and get hit by people that are 250lbs of muscle. high ankle sprain probably wasnt the cause of getting hit hard by someone due to his running style. anybody who falls on their collarbone funny would have broken it too. i'm not too sure of the details to his shoulder injury his freshman year.

just think about it this way, every player in the NFL is at a risk of getting injured. so why not just take the best one anyways?

As a person who's watched Quinn play since he first took over for Carlyle Holiday, I'd say he's Tom Brady-like when he's got time to throw, and just like any QB when the O-line doesn't block for him.

I believe during the ND/USC game this year, Quinn was under constant pressure from USC the entire game. One of the times he decided to run from the pressure, busted out a 59 yard gain. He isn't usually a scrambler, but he had the awareness there to run from the pressure.

It's been said he didn't show up for the big games, but I would put this year's MSU/ND and UCLA/ND games as "big" for him. When the defense kept the games close for him, he could lead them to the winning score.

Wow, a little on edge are we?

Like I said I was accused of something that is a pet peeve of mine. How would you feel if someone accused you of one of your pet peeves? A little on edge maybe?

Did YOU read what was written? I never accused him of letting his favorite college team cloud his judgement, he accused me of that by saying "keep in mind this is coming from a Longhorn fan" in response to me saying that I though AP's injury problems were a cause for concern. Why would I accuse MT of that anyway? I don't personally believe he is the Longhorns fan he claims to be, but that's a whole different story and has nothing to do with this thread.

Looking at the bright side, the injuries have kept a lot of carries away from Peterson preventing much of the wear and tear that could acctually cause concern for a running back. Bottom line is that if he is there at 8, chances are we take him (or at least i hope we take him).

I was replying to the thread, it had nothing to do with you.

What about Charles Rogers, he had 3 TDs through his first 5 games in the NFL until he broke his collarbone twice and has been labeled as a bust since.

Ther you are. Happy belated birthday BuffSoldier. I was wondering where you were. Thought you had done something radical like....fall in loove or something. WB.

2003 - Missed time with a shoulder injury during his Sr year of high school
2004 - Played the full season
2005 - Missed 1 game and was limited to less than 10 carries in 3 others because of ankle injury
2006 - Missed 7 games with broken collarbone

Not that I think it's relevent but that's a history.

The only injury issue that concerns me about AP is the fact that he had surgery on his shoulder and a screw inserted to tighten it up. RBs shoulders take a beating and that could be an issue. The ankle spain...nothing. The Collar bone ....most likely nothing, but the shoulder is a concern IMO. Needs to be carefully checked out and that''s about it.

"Peterson, do not dive into the endzone when you do not have to." Gary Kubiak. "Yes, coach. That collar bone sure did hurt some."AP.:tease:

Wish Kube would have thought about this sort of thing earlier...

"Dayne, don't fall on Spencer's leg and break it."Gary "Yes, coach. That must have really hurt our line huh."RD
