I'm not sure Ginn's going to be a bona-fide receiver in the traditional sense. In the sense that Bush is an otherworldly athlete that nominally plays RB, I see Ginn as an otherworldly athlete that nominally plays WR. These are the things I see him do extremely well in college:
1. Return kicks and punts.
2. Outrun DBs on streaks.
3. Run the reverse.
4. Catch the quick slant and outrun DBs... deadly in space.
I think he'll be best utilized as a Reggie Bush type of playmaker... WR screens, end arounds, reverses, in the backfield and in motion, in the slot, as a decoy, etc. If you're willing to use Ginn as a jack of all trades type playmaker, I think he can have a lot of success, immediate success. Trying to force him into the typical WR mold though may not work, and may not be the best use of his talents.
Maybe I'm the only guy that sees Ginn like Bush, but if this is the way that NFL scouts start to see him, I think it can give us a clue to where he'll end up:
Assuming he's not a need for any of the top 6 teams, and he's not:
7. Minnesota- Need a WR and playmaker, but they're probably a bit gunshy after Williamson.
8. Houston- If Peterson is gone, I think he'd be a fit given the need for a playmaker... but given Mathis, talent available, and bigger "needs", it's unlikely. Could make fans forget about Bush... is that worth anything?
9. Miami- They need playmakers, but between McMichael, Chambers, and Welker, have some good receiving threats and return game. Aging D and OL and QB questions make it unlikely.
10. Atlanta- They need a legit WR, but have had bad experiences with first round picks White, Jenkins, and Lelie (acquired). Ginn would be a perfect crutch for Vick or Schaub. Extremely probable they go DB, could go WR if they intend to throw the kitchen sink at the Vick issue.
11. San Francisco- Worst defense in football needs help. Could be a perfect peripheral playmaker for a good young offensive nucleus of Smith, Davis, and Gore.
12. Buffalo- Not happening.
13. St. Louis- Doubtful, set at WR, use Jackson extensively as a receiver.
14. Panthers- Not happening.
15. Pittsburgh- Not happening.
16. Green Bay- They lack explosiveness offensively, but everybody has them taking Lynch if he's out there. I could see Ginn happening.
17. Jacksonville- Not happening.
18. Cincinatti- Not happening.
19 Tennessee- A lot of overlap with Pacman...would be invaluable as a means to take pressure and defensive attention off of Young, pick your poison with packages and matchups. Chow has experience with Bush and would find tons of creative packages to utilize Ginn in, as they started to do with Jones late in the season. Need a legit #1 if Bennett is let go, need a physical technician with size (Jarrett is 2 of those 3). If Bennett is resigned, Ginn is the only WR I see them taking.
20. Giants- Not happening.
21. Denver- His slide would end here, too good of a fit with team needs and personnel. He would be everything they hoped Lelie could be and more. Would make a scary unit, they could score 5 TDs just on the premise that Cutler can throw it a country mile and nobody is faster than Ginn.
He's gonna run the best 40 time at Indy, so we'll see how it develops. I could see Tennessee or Denver targeting Ginn and trading up past Green Bay.
