Texans Depth Chart/Trading Carr and getting Plummer

A

I was thinking about what are defense might look like for next year not considering who we draft so I cam up with this defense considering that everyone comes back healthy:

Texans Defense

Demarcus Faggins Glenn Earl CC Brown Dunta Robinson

Shantee Orr DeMeco Ryans Antwan Peek/Morlon Greenwood

Mario Williams Travis Johnson Anthony Maddox Jason Babin

Texans Offense:

C. Spencer C. Pitts M. Flangan F. Weary E. Winston O.Daniels

Andre Johnson Eric Moulds

David Carr(?)/Jake Plummer (?)

Vonta Leach

Wali Lundy/Ron Dayne

Now, just for curiousity I would like to see others make their depth charts, also would their be any team interested in David Carr. Would denver trade Jake for David and some picks in the draft? Thanks....

Imagine LaMarr Woodley, Allan Branch, or Leon Hall on the texans!

No way I want Plummer. They will stick with Carr and select QB 2nd thru 4th in draft. I say Peterson, Dayne, Lundy and Taylor as last two not seen enough. Dayne not your premier back for 16 g. Also, Faggins need to be a nickle.
My thoughts; Nate Clemments CB in F/agency expensive but we can afford him. He strengthens DR and the safeties. Should improve Lbackers too who can ease up a bit on coverage. That one position (cb) strongly improves the D. Another pass rusher @ DT or DE is ok with me but I see improvement in 07 with what we have.

Draft: 1. Peterson 2. Kolb qb 3. LT 4. olb 5. DT(unless achieved in F/A) 6.bpa 7.bpa or trade for next draft 6th round. Casserly had success with this.

Red=horrible ideas Leonard Davis isn't a good fit at all for our blocking scheme and shouldn't be a LT anyways. DeMarcus Faggins still being a starting CB is also a horrible idea, we really need an upgrade there. I also don't like Terdell Sands and Travis Johnson being our starting DTs, that would likely make our DLine even worse at passrushing than it was this year. We should move Weaver inside to DT and get a better DE. We should also be a lot more active in free agency than just picking up Terdell Sands and Leonard Davis.

nelson at FS (draft) and clements at CB (FA) would do wonders for the secondary. im sure in the draft we will also look for, in no particular order, an OLB, OL (interior), DE, RB, and CB (QB?)

i would look into getting josh brown from seattle too. i think we can all agree that we could use a good kicker and that kris hasnt been cutting it. and to save some money just give him kris' old jersey! one hell of an idea wouldnt you say? *note: this is a rhetorical question*

i want to see carr succeed but im not sure if it will be in a texan uniform, but nobody is sure about his future yet. as for jake plummer - i would not like to see him here - but there are too many connections to overlook him as a possible candidate. the QB situation will affect the whole offseason so im just going to sit back and put my faith in the coaching staff

I did want to add a new CB on there (Samuels or Clements) but I don't think we'll get either of them, I do think it will be addressed, I'm just not sure how.

I didn't want to go put a ton of free agents on there, but of course I'm looking for:

1.) FS
2.) OL
3.) CB
4.) DT
5.) OLB

I hope we're more active, but in years past (other than last year) we haven't been getting a ton of solid players out of free agents and we don't have that much cap space to go after free agents so I'm thinking maybe one big free agent acquisition, and then a few minor ones. But yes, I'm hoping we'll be very active, that's just how I see it happening.

You Won't get Joe Thomas unless you're willing to poney up two ones....and that may not be enough. He is the only Elite OLT prospect in the draft. Throw the draft vaule chart out the window. Simple supply and demand. And agian, I do have orange glasses on. Leonard Davis is not an option. If they do bring him in...sage should sit out and ask for a double dip on his salary. The prospects of him or anyone behind Davis finishing the season intack with this offense are slim and none. Davis is not an option. Better hope the day two guy(s) pans out.

I bet that Jake Plummer comes to Houston.Just remember Kubiak loves old rejects of Denver. I even heard that Kubiak said that he has about two years left in Jake. I would rather have Plummer in over Carr anytime of the week. Sage is okay, but not sure if he could go full time the whole year. Plummer was 7-2 before he was benched.

You are dreaming big. This would be beyond our capabilities on many levels.

I honestly think we will add a defensive and offensive player each with our 1st two selections. Whether that is a RB and a DB, an OT and DT, or whatever, I do not know.

On the FA path, I would be stunned if we went for any of the big time FA's. I think Smith will find more of the economy guys. Not bottom of the barrel, but more of the 2nd tier guys that don't get gobbled up during the initial frenzy. Rather than finding that one "impact" overpriced FA, I would imagine he will try to slightly upgrade several areas. I could be wrong, but I would actually prefer that.

some people might not like this - but im actually looking for our first 2 selections to be on the defensive side of the ball. FS and OLB

i think the biggest part of patching up the offense starts with the interior of the line and then QB. and IMO the system allows for average players to still be successful and productive (RB, TE, and WR). i would be ready to start drafting offense in the 3rd but thats just me.

First round pick... BPA. Thats how we are going to have to draft.

Second round, rufus alexander. He will be just like a demeco, I guarantee it.

My team got to go to a texans practice and hang out with the players. First person I met was Demeco Ryans (this was before any preseason games). I went up to him and I told him that he was our #1 pick, and he would be rookie of the year. He laughed and he said he hopes just to start... He proved a lot of people wrong, except me =D.

I see the same in alexander as I did in Ryans. I was stoked when we drafted ryans last season.

Starting Defense:

DE Mario
DT Cory Redding
DT Johnson/Maddox
DE Weaver

SLB Lance Briggs
MLB Demeco
WLB Greenwood/Wong

CB Dunta
FS Deon Grant/Ken Hamlin
SS Earl
CB 2nd round pick, maybe Aaron Ross or Hughes

I think Lance Briggs should be our #1 target in FA. The pairing of him and Demeco would make for a difficult tandem to run against.

I also think Cory Redding might be willing to play for the Texans so that he could return to Texas. This could allow us to sign him and not break the bank. I was pretty happy with the way our DL stopped the run during the last part of the season, even with the number of injuries it sustained, so if Redding didn't come at a reasonable price I don't think I big FA signing here is necessary. I also think we could draft a situational pass rush end in round 4, much like Chicago used Anderson and Denver used Dummervil.

In the secondary I think Deon Grant would be an improvement over Brown, but if we miss on Briggs and Seattle let's him go I think we should try to do whatever it takes to get Ken Hamlin to come here. I don't think we have a shot to sign either Clements or Samuel, although I would love to be proven wrong. That's why I think it would be more likely to sign a FS in FA and draft a CB in round 2.

Starting Offense:

QB ???/Sage

RB Adrian Peterson
FB Vonta

WR AJ
WR Moulds
TE Daniels

LT Spencer
LG Pitts
C Samson Satele/Hodgdon/McKinney
RG Weary
RT Winston

The QB position is a complete ? right now and it depends on what the coaching staff decides to do with Carr. I would hate to see the staff trade anything to get Jake Plummer, but if was released I wouldn't mind them bringing him in as competition. Vick will not be coming here, and thank goodness for that. I also think a QB could be drafted in round 3 to groom for a year or two.

I wouldn't mind going with less than a stud QB as long as we get a serious RB on our roster. If Peterson gets past Cleveland he will probably fall to us, in which case I think we take him.

I don't forsee a big change in our receiveing corps or OL (I've got my fingers and toes crossed for Spencer, who was looking like a beast before his injury) although center is probably wide open and I think Satele could fall into the 4th or 5th round where he might have good value. I would also like to see Mathis, Lewis, or Walters really step up and give us a consistent 3rd option at WR.

Why are there so many people obsessed with Jake Plummer. He didn't do anything this year on a Broncos team that had SuperBowl aspirations. How well do you think he's going to play for us? I'm not putting down the Texans but we're not a playoff team or close to one. Even if Kubiak is able to get the best out of Plummer is it really going to enough? I don't think so. Let's look somewhere else for our qb solutions.

I would rather have Plummer in over Carr anytime of the week. Sage is okay, but not sure if he could go full time the whole year. Plummer was 7-2 before he was benched.

Correction, the Broncos were at 7-2 and tied for the division lead despite Jake Plummer's poor play then they lost two straight games to fall to 7-4 and Shanahan decided to cut his losses and give Cutler the nod.

Try No-Doze, you'll have insomnia, but at least you'll be sane.

If I could get beyond the cap issues of signing three of the top free agents, as well as mortgaging the future of 2008 and possibly '09 top draft picks as well as the savvy to influence the three top free agents to come to Houston after a history of losing... then this would seem reasonable... but since I can't get past cleaning up the coffee I spit out after reading that we leveraged an aging overthe hill center, a career backup that couldn't start in our sad running back corps, and a overpaid 1st rounder with motivational issues into a 1st round pick, then I can only assume that you clearly are one of the people that predicted the Texans would go 13-3 last year.

I say Good Day to you, Sir!

NO and NO

If he comes back healthy

This means trading TJ, Gado, Flanagan. And we'd need to draft a little more depth at OL at OLB.

I predicted a 'hopeful 7-9', by the way.

If I had my choice I would rather see us get Garcia than Plummer. I think Garcia has more up side and his play is more consistant. With McNab returning next year and Garcia with only a one year deal he could be available.

just to add Weaver would be better DT than DE in a 4-3... more of a runstopper.. reason he had to play LE because no depth on DE side than DT

Garcia is successful in his system, SF and PHI, not in others (CLE and DEN/HOU). He owuld be a fool to come here. Heck he might be starting for PHI next year. Why come here?

Winston is no where near being ready for a starting LT slot. Flanagan your dropping from the roster?

Winston is no where near being ready for a starting LT slot. Flanagan your dropping from the roster?

Max Starks would be nice to start in his place, but last I heard he's likely to stay with the Steelers. Leonard Davis would be a good option, but a pro-bowl calibre CB is a more pressing need, in my eyes and to bring in A-Grade talent at LT we're going to need to pay for it. If our cap rom can take it then great, one of the above two would be fantastic, but of the other tackles available ... I'd rather try to develop Winston in there. The guy definitely has talent, even if it is raw right now.

And yes, I'd trade Flanagan away - I thought McKinney looked better there and we need some young blood to develop in that position. We've got two really old guys and a flat out bad player at the moment.

I banged on David Pollack about not having the arms to play De when he came out...there is a reason they Have Eric at the RT spot. He was dominate run bolcking on SOME plays at the end of the season , however...just becaused
he maned the position At Miami, doesn't nessisarly mean he has the physic to do it at this level. Just saw a mock service
posted that Levi, not Adrian will be the pick.

On a more positive note....I think this one is a little more realistic roster projection. You add the Utah DT in there some where, I think my projection goes way up on the prospects of this club in '07. Another suggestion...I'm not so sure that Petie doesn't get a shot at FS this summer.

just to add Weaver would be better DT than DE in a 4-3... more of a runstopper.. reason he had to play LE because no depth on DE side than DT

Look at the gaurds we'll be going up against next season. Weaver will get killed on the inside. The reason he played the other end is because..the Peek/Babin end couldn't beat him out. May we use the "B" word after this seaon on those two ? Moving Weaver is an extermely bad move, in MHO. But you're correct. They must stop the hemorrhaging on the inside of this defense. Even with two SS over the top, the best LB of last years draft, our rush defense is abysmal. They're going to add someone in the draft. I beileve as the roster stands now DT, is more critcal than the DE.

flanagan played awful this year and winston is a rg at best now

I suspect that LT was what they had planned for Spencer's development until big Ron fell on him. The reason I've got them backwards on my depth chart is playing time, but perhaps if Spencer comes back really strong and really soon to training then he could step in and fill that position. It would certainly be a better fit for both those guys.

I'll be very interested to see how this all plays out. It's absolutely critical that our O-Line gets some stability and some more actual ability this offseason. We've got some decent backups and a few guys who can legitimately start, but I'm sick to death of all this patchwork crap. We need a starting line who can grow accustomed to each other - work as a unit. I'd like to see Winston and Spencer in at each tackle, despite their inexperience, because we have so many gaps to fill on this team, these two are clearly talented and the fastest place to develop them is on the field. I'd like to see McKinney starting at Center for someone young and versatile like Satele, with Veteran guards either side of him. Pitts is good, Weary is a great backup, but we need a starting RG. Hence Dielman. I think that could form an actual foundation for the unit - something to be refined and built upon rather than just taped up and thrown on.

Like yourself, I don't see a legitimate place for Flanagan.
