OLB Antwan Peek has seen limited time (75 plays), but has proven to be effective when given the chance. The Texans exciting playmaker recorded his second sack of the season on a crucial Titans 3rd and 10 conversion attempt last week (11/28/04). Peek knocked the ball loose from McNair's hands while fellow LB Kailee Wong scooped up the forced fumble to give Houston's offense possession at their own 19.

Peek recorded his first career interception against Indianapolis (11/14/04) in the fourth quarter. The week before, Peek blocked a punt by the Denver punter Micah Knorr, which was converted into a Houston touchdown. In two plays at LB against Denver, Peek contributed with one tackle for loss. He posted three tackles, including two QB pressures and a 10-yard sack at Kansas City in only 15 snaps. Out of 75 plays, peek has made 15 big plays (20 percent).

This is straight out of the game notes this week. I think this sums up my argument for getting peek some playing time. I find it interesting that for two weeks in a row something very similar has been posted on the texans own web page about how Peek has performed so high with little chances. The guy is a play maker yet he isnt on the field. 20% of the time he is on the field he makes a big play. Thats 1 out of 5. Chances are if he was allowed to play more he would produce more, and maybe this debate wouldnt go on every week.

haha come on washington cant ya see that more people have been agreing with ya. I used to really DISAGREE with you but not now after watching Peek do what he has, i really like the guy. And i think he will see more play time, if not than someone needs to talk to the coaches

By popular demand, it looks like the odd man out amoung the LBs has gotta be Foreman, and since Wong is very reluctant to play inside, Babin is gonna have to slide in next to Sharper. Actually, Babin has played with excellent lateral movement and they might as well take their experiment to the nth degree and play Babin @ ILB. That way Peek could be on the field on a full time basis and Wong would be happy 'cause he'd still be @ OLB.

thats actually a good idea babin does have good side to side movement !

very good point about moving babin inside. no one has really brought that up, but i think that would be a great idea. It would give him the ability to really affect the run. He would be able to plug the holes. Ive been saying all along to get that combination on the field, and that could be a way to do it next season. However, who knows if the team would even consider doing it.

Did any of you notice how after Peek forced McNairs' fumble, he was double teamed on every play after that.

Babin does not belong in the middle. He belongs on the outside where he has room to make more moves. Its his first season and he is doing pretty good i must say. Peek belongs on the outside too, if not, he would have been brought in to replace Foreman. All said and done, we are on the right track with our linebackers. Ever since the blowup at the Colts people have been searching for wild answers. But look around, the Colts are blowing everybody up. They even scored a lot of points against NE. Settle down and leave the defense alone, we have enough adjustments from last year as it is.

the problem is that if things are left alone someone is the odd man out and will be leaving this team after next season. peek is either going to get more time or leave, or wong is going to move to the middle so peek can play or stay on the outside and either force peek to leave or wong will leave. tahts the problem if things are left alone.

Wong is going nowhere, Babin is going nowhere, Peek is a situational pass rusher only and will only be that until he proves otherwise.

haha thats the point, he hasnt had a chance to show otherwise because he doesnt get many snaps. The whole point is that 20 percent of his plays he has made a big play. He is a situational pass rusher only because thats all they are using him as. If that is all they are going to use him as then he only has about 14 months left with the texans. The man makes plays when he is in, why would you want him on the sidelines.

the way capers was talking during his press conference it seems like he wants to get peek in to play more, and i think they will. He just has such a big affect when he comes in, reminds me of Ray Lewis with his intensity and the emotion he shows on the field, and i dont really wanna lose a player like that !

Terrell Suggs has made great play, but he is a situational player until he proves otherwise. This is where Peek is. The biggest question is whether he can stomach all the plays and not just the 3rd and long ones. When he was a starter he got exploited. He may be growing up in sytem and is a good problem to have. I like bringing him along slowly and thats the way we've been doing it. A 3-4 LB is rarely starting in the 1st 2 seasons.

the point is not that he isnt starting, but he was in 4 plays the last game. thats not enough. he deserves more PT now, not next year.

yes if he dont get more PT than he will likely move to another team who will, and we will have lost a great talent !

Isn't Peek called "The Secret Weapon"? If so, he fits the title really well. He's one of those "sneaky" good players that other teams don't realize until he's already made some great plays.

This is the NFL, there is no such thing as a secret weapon unless its their first game ever. Teams know about him, teams know what he has done, every team has a million scouts and coaches. There is no suprise in him anymore, and if you got a weapon you should use it.

It seems as if every week there is a comment made by the coaching staff that Peek will see the field more after making a big play, and then it doesn't materialize. In order for someone to show improvement, he must be on the field in order to do so. The 20% big play factor should make one realize that alone. Not saying that percentage will remain the same if there are increased plays, but just the chance for that to remain true would make me put him on the field more if I were the coach. Starting or not starting, he needs to be on the field more or you will see him in another uniform in 2006.
