Todd Graham leaves Rice for Tulsa

extensions for coaches in college football are a joke. i wonder if it was a yearning to return to Tulsa or a money issue.

I do not think this was the right thing to do. Sometimes there's a job out there that you very much want but the timing ends up being wrong. To leave Rice at this point (particularly if the reports of his signing an extension are true) is IMO wrong.

Hopefully colleges will start using non-compete clauses and stop acting so desperate to get coaches.

In defense of Saban "well, if you want him that bad, you won't put it in his contract."

Whatever. All over college and pro sports, greedy @%$#.

It's a sad state of affairs when now a days, coaches find the need to jump while their value is high, or that they SHOULD be in that kind of predicament.

No loyalty these days.. From either the schools/teams or the coaches themselves.

but don't give the players a stipend, of course- that would be "greedy" and would take away from what college football is really all about.

right, bubbas?

man that guy is a piece of work. that program is on the upswing and now they get their legs cut off. one thing though, i hope it was a money thing and rice didnt match it, that would be somewhat more justifiable than just going back to TULSA which has what over rice?

$1.1 million a year for EIGHT (8) years...

No way Rice would match that money. Thats way more than they paid Rick Smalley, who won a Nobel Prize while at Rice.

id say this is worse than saban. the guy wasnt cutting it in the nfl and got offered a s load of cash.

this guy went from rice to tulsa. id say theyre pretty comparable programs.

Don't allow them to transfer, either. Without wasting a year of eligibility.

OMG that is like 10 times as relevant. really great comment.

coaches who bail on a signed contract should be forced to hold a clipboard only their first year.

Except Tulsa goes to a bowl gme about every 5 years instead of every 60 years. Yeah, but other then that the are very much the same...no wait no is a state school while the other is an Ivy league caliber university.

But I still think it was a crap move by Graham, and hope he fails next year.

Rice, consider yourself Sabaned.
In more ways than one. Major Applewhite, former Rice OC, has joined Saban at Alabama.

Good luck to Applewhite. His position hasn't been posted, but man is he moving up the chain. There is a big difference between Rice and Bama.

Atleast the MOB will have some fresh material to work with when Tulsa plays at Rice next season.

Tulsa isn't a state school.

Low class move... one of my good friends (kicker clark fangmier) was guaranteed a scholarship by Graham, now that he is gone, my friend is worried about his scholarship. Hopefully they realize how much clark did for them this past year and give him his MUCH deserved scholarship
