I'm not normally one to take issue with ESPN and their perceived lack of respect for the Texans.
I understand that we have done very little to earn respect, and in a lot of cases, people are basically just looking for things to take issue with when they say we get no respect.
I get all of that.
BUT, During the HOUSTON ROCKETS highlights, ESPN showed the "NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Vince Young" who was in attendance, but didn't even say a freaking peep about the DROY, DeMeco Ryans who is at the same game.
I understand showing Vince... I really do, but I really felt it was a slap in the face that DeMeco wasn't mentioned.
I hope I'm wrong... I hope that ESPN mentioned DeMeco in another segment or something and I just missed it, but if not, I think I might be on the "ESPN hates Houston" conspiracy bandwagon...
What a joke...

Don't you know that offensive players are more fun than defensive?

Get used to it until we start winning. How many things about the Lions or Browns do you see?

Wouldn't surprise me if the didn't mention Demeco. Everyone is on the VY bandwagon. For some reason Demeco it seems like Demeco is the most anonymous ROY's ever! I don't understand it because he's a monster! I'm sure as the team starts to win more, he will start to get more publicity. Hopefully he will be in the Pro Bowl next year. I couldn't believe he is something like the 3rd or 4th alternate for the Pro Bowl! You can't tell me there are that many MLB's better than him in the AFC!

losing is tough. we need to cut the bishing out. remember, when teams lose alot for 3-4 consecutive yrs and then follow it up with a winning season, the fans are greedy, loud, and proud. after 5 yrs of losing, our fans are hungrier than ever before. i cant wait for the day where we can watch a good texans team and reliant will be rocking. as soon as we start winning, i think because we lost for so many yrs, our fans will be the nastiest, loudest, and most greedy fans in the country. how do u think eagle fans got to how they are? because the eagles sucked for a long time but when they began to win, they became arrogant and greedy. it will happen for us. its only a matter of time b4 we can see reliant go off the chain. for now, all we can do is suck in the disrespect that we have coming.

It's kinda' like if the Pope was at a game they wouldn't show him. But if Matthew Mcconnaughey is there he'll get 3 minutes sideline air time, plus a sideline interview, plus an invite into the commentator's booth to chat, lol.

Ignore it, we're currently a losing small market team. We know who we are :)

It's because Demeco is so much more popular than VY that they didn't even need to point him out. People can just feel him there through their TVs. :shades:

Vince Young is a National Celebrity. He is fun to be around. He is a celebrity from the Rose Bowl. He is a likeable personality. People will recognize him. He is on record as having one of the GREATEST Performances ever!!! He did amazing highlights this year. He is a magnet for T.V. Cameras.

Demeco Ryans is rock solid. Got 3.5 Sacks. Got over 150 tackles. You don't really even see much of him here in Houston after games. It usually is Daunta Robinson giving his perspective of the Defensive side.

I gurantee you die hard Texans fans that if you put him in a lineup HERE in HOuston with TExans fans present, a large percentage of people could not Identify him. He is after all, on DEFENSE!!!

No disrespect that isn't the NFL trend.

Vince Young is puppy poo and the Texans are the puppy. We'll keep getting our nose rubbed in it until we learn how to draft a no. 1 pick. ;) according to ESPN!

I wouldn't sweat it. As mentioned, offensive players always get more media love.

If Demeco would have tackled Vince Young during the ROXS game..... then I'm sure Demeco would have been mentioned!:)

Well if you think about it, Mathis was probably the best return man in the league last year and they really didn't notice him or the fact that he went to the Pro Bowl as a rookie either.

Winning gets attention. When we failed to draft Vince we failed to draft the marketing of him as well.

We are a losing team but by no means a small market teams...we are still in the top 10 in revenue and Houston is the 4th largest city which equals big market

Who cares if ESPN doesn't mention him?

Does it make him a worse player? No, he is exactly the same regardless of whether they mention him or not, and this has no effect on his performance.

Sometimes people on this board get worked up for the dumbest of reasons. It's only a matter of time before we have another Bill Simmons article that people will be ranting about.

If you aren't an SEC football fan and you've never watched the Texans play, you probably don't know who DeMeco Ryans is.

But if they knew both were there, then they should have said both.

Cuz the Pope has more hair and a cooler ride.:tease:

Whatever happened to the age when Popes rode on horses instead of in an armored golf cart?

I'm telling you, this whole expanded life expectancy thing is going to be the end of this world....

Anyways, to be on topic, ESPN sucks, we all know that. Next!

If they hate Houston, why would they be showing Vince Young? Last time I looked, he was from Houston.

DeMeco had a solid year, but a year expected from a MLB.

VY turned a HORRIBLE team into a 0.500 ball club in year 1.

Do I hate the lack of respect for the Texans? sure, but you didn't hear anything about TEN until they started winning. We'll see what happens after we start winning

LBs dont get that popular until they have been playing at that level for years (Ray Lewis). QBs can get popular after their rookie year (Vince Young) or even before it (Matt Leinart).
