Portis isn't a free agent, he's under contract for another 5 years or so with Washington, and they aren't about to move him. From the estimates I've seen we should have the cap room to chase after at least one top-end guy like Briggs, Clements, Samuels, etc. and a couple other decent people, although at this point no one except the cap people with the Texans know how much of the cap hits for players like Gary Walker, Todd Wade, etc. have been allocated to the 2007 cap, so it's hard for any of us to really tell. I expect them to do similar to last year where they go for one pretty big name on both sides of the ball and then some other pretty solid players too, although maybe Rick Smith will add a different flavor to free agency for us.
So basically what he's tellin gyou is your guess is dead wrong. The guess is they are between 10 to 13.5 million. No one knows for sure...but I bet it's pretty close. You get a shot at one top end guy and maybe a decent prospect.Out of the cap money you gotta sign two high draft picks, some of your free agents. and take care of some of the special teams guys. You might be able to afford one of the CB's but it isn't going to be cheap.
