Ok look. I don't post much here, but I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents to everything I've been reading.
We are not taking a running back with our top pick, so there is no need in talking about AP or any other running back. We have a better running back core now than we did last year when we passed up on RB. We have two proven running backs when they are healthy, and a young stud in Chris Taylor. If they want to bulk it up even more, they will do it later in the draft.
Carr is most likely gone. I don't have a clue what I think will happen, but I'll say what I think its most likely to happen, and what I'd like to see happen.
The most likely scenerio would be grab a veteran thats still got a few years left. Jeff Garcia or Jake the Snake being the most likely candidates. And hope a quarterback on their draft board is still available. If there isn't, they will wait until 2008 draft.
I would like to see us draft Russell. I'm wondering if Rick Smith has something up his sleeve. He sounded quite impressed by the guy in his interview, and kept talking about how we're in good position to trade up. Also wouldn't answer questions about whether Carr will be here from a "nagotiation stand point" so that makes me think he's planning on trying to trade him. Does anyone else see a deal going to Oakland?
Carr, and a late rounder, or some other players for the number 1 pick again to ensure Russell will be available? I doubt it, because except for people on this board, nobody seems to think Russell will go early in the first round. And don't forget guys, Matt Leinart was much, much highly scouted more so than any QB this year and he lasted all the way to number 10. Oakland, Jets, Lions...all passed. All fingers point to Brady on the number one pick. Which brings me to this.
Kitna. didn't the guy have 4200 yards this year? I know he's not the long term solution, but with the weak selection of QB's this year, and so many other immediate needs on the team, I'm not thinking they will be drafting a QB. Kitna will be around for another couple of years.
The only team ahead of us that I think will be shopping for a first round Quarterback is Oakland. I think they will go with Quinn, despise his poor showing against Russell's LSU. So then I guess there is no need to try to trade up, unless we are getting multiple picks of out it but that's why I don't work for the NFL.
So Smith pretty much said he wants to bring in a quarterback that can beat Carr out for the job. That most likely will be in the Free Agency. Unless its Schaub, A.J. Feeley, and that 3rd stringer from Tampa that did pretty well late in the season, that still leaves us needing a QB in the draft. That gives us 6 quarterbacks. Obviously we won't keep more than 3. Will carr's salary Im not sure we will even have 3. That leads me to believe Carr will be traded. But if we bring in 2 QB's this off season, What to do with Sage Rosenfels? Nobody on the Texans organization seems to think he is starting material. if we bring in 2 QB's, he would be a third stringer and would want to be traded. Van Pelt is gone. Porter will be gone. I still say draft a stud QB and start sage.
What's all this talk about getting Vick? I'll admit, if he gets the passing game down to consistant he will undoubtedly be the most feared QB of all time. He will make VY look like trash. But I just dont see us getting him. Shaub is the QB they want to use as trade leverage. Not Vick.
