3 years... 41 NFL starts. 2 play off appearances. And it's not good enough. They were the division champs last year.

It's understood that it's a team sport. We all know there is division in that locker room. We all know their coach may not be their coach for very long. But Eli is still criticized about his poor play.

Eli also did the escape from San Diego routine which multiplies the problem .
 
Eli has been pretty bad...but so has Coughlin and his staff. Plax doesn't help the case with his inconsistency.
 
He is an average QB, and my thinking is, since I am a Giants fan as well, is that the Giants have realized that all the talk of him being better than Peyton was mostly smoke and mirrors. Sure, coming out of college he had alot of upside, but now I feel as if they want him to be the type of player that doesn't cost NY games, ie. like Grossman in Chicago. Control the game, make plays but it is not up to you to win them. We shall see how he does next season with Tiki gone, as he kept defenses back some. I hope he goes to his brother's football camp to learn instead of teach this off season !!

With a backfield like they have, that's all he should have to do. With weapons/receivers like Shockey & Plax... he shouldn't have a problem.

I'm sorry, but I think it goes deeper than "He is an avg QB" unless your idea of an avg QB is worse than mine.

That might be true, he might be peaking now, that is why I said, we shall see next season, Pettigot missed half the season, and we all know how valuable a LT is, Toomer missed half the season as well, so he lost a few weapons, but next season he'll be w/o Tiki so we shall see.

You mentioned Plax and Shockey, well not to hijack the thread , but damn, wouldn't it be good to have someone like Shockey on the team that plays with fire just about every play. Sure, he is an ass at times, but on that play he lost his lid and still went head first for the extra yards is simply put this way, desire to win at all costs..

I don't mind a little 'tude from a player..... not when he brings it like that on the field, on the sideline, in the locker room, in practice.......
 
Eli is a bad QB. He looks like he doesn't even want to play football and rarely shows any emotion good or bad.

Yup, I like the "Tude" also, but have a real problem with the "Turd" that some players bring to the table. Seems that a lot of them that have the Tude also have the turd part.

Totally agree. I am a closet Bears fan and like Grossman (Mr. Inconsistent), Eli has really struggeled. I do feel he has potential, but just hasn't hit a groove. Doesn't help that he is Mr. Unemotional and that he pulled that stunt with San Diego...

My prediction...he will improve with time.

Shockey is a pain, but so much fun to watch...would love to have him, if they could just muzzle him in front of the cameras.

I respect your opinion..... but..

I would never put Eli in the same group with Pennington & Delhomme. those two have demonstrated a good working knowledge of the game, where Eli(imho) doesn't appear to get it.

Physically.. he might have the arm of Delhomme..... the chutzpa of Pennington. But I don't think he's in that league.
 
Eli has the Peyton Manning work ethic, but his main problem is his mechanics. The biggest complaint is how much he throws off his back foot.

He has a great fundamental knowledge and we can see it when he makes many of his throws...he just throws off his back foot to much and forces the ball too much.

If I needed to win one game I'd probably take Pennington over Delhomme and Eli....

I think I agree with both of you though...At this point in his career, I think Eli is a tad bit below Pennington and Delhomme, but I think they are all in about the same class....I wouldn't neccessarily call them good, more like alright....
 
He gets the criticism for a few reasons.

1.) His name is Manning.....he'll always live in the shadows of his brother.

2.) He plays for NY.....NYers are tough

3.) He cried his way out of San Diego.....I bet he wished he was there now.
 
Funny this thread popped up, but during the game I was wondering what it would take to pry Eli away from the Giants. He's under fire for "underperforming" so it just got me to thinking...

Would be what we need IF they decide to get rid of DC some way or another. Huard, Plummer, meh....if DC was not here next TC, we would need a "name" like Eli.

As an added bonus, the brothers going at it twice a year might even get us more national games! :shades:
 
Well as long as he's where he is, he's going to get criticism. but like 1 of the above poster said in so many words, he's brought a good portion of it on himself. i'd take him over what we have, but i agree with everyone's post in here, he's not quite there yet.

Well a few things on that post, which has some good takes, but I am not so sure EM could take the beating DC has and still takes. The added games on National TV would be a good thing, but that will come mainly if Houston gets better as a team.
 
I think Eli is a good QB; perhaps it's just a bad fit for him in NY. He's no big brother though.

I thought it was funny that Coach Coughlin's son in law plays for them; OL I think. Wonder how hard that guy has it?

There is no way he could take the beatings Carr has taken and keep functioning. Eli starts out ok but gets rattled WAY too easily. For as much of a fuss as he put up about San Diego he should be a bad a s s QB and he isn't. He's mediocre & I don't think he'll ever get a whole lot better. He loses focus and is weak.
 
There's just something about him that's missing and it's not something he's going to find through experience.

Peyton is able to pull off the dumb hick expression on his face because he shows emotion. Eli doesn't do that. He constantly has the expression of somebody that wouldn't mind being somewhere else on Sundays.

If Eli really wants to win, you'd have a hard time convincing me based on his body language.

That's it...you hit the nail on the head and although I know they both MUST be fairly bright...they don't look it. At least Payton shows some passion for the game.
