Gaffney in the playoffs

Carr Bombed

Hall of Fame
Its nice to see a previous texan player in the playoffs. I feel Gaffney could of been a decent player in this leauge in the slot, seems like he's becoming a favorable target of Brady's. Gaffney is a player that the patriots always seem to pick up.....I.E. has talent, failed eslewhere, but he will pick you up and dust you off.

having said this, this is why I think Brady is one of the greatest QB to play the game, you take his receivers, doesn't matter, you take his O. Coordinator, doesn't matter, just supply him with a running game and a avg. line and he'll win. I can't believe this guy was taken so low in the draft, the guy was basically a HOF by the time he was 26.

Ravens Vs. Patriots is going to be one hellava game................McNair has one last hoorah in him...........I'm rooting for him.

Have to agree with you there (about Brady). Not the most exciting QB in the league, but very effective. He always seems to be so consistent.

Ravens will be tough to beat this year...so McNair stands a good chance of moving on.

Brady is looking in his direction a lot. Too bad he ran backwards when he had the first on third down and he dropped that perfect pass in the endzone.

I just hope today's games are alot better than yesterday's. The Chiefs were a excuse of a playoff team and damn the 49ers for sending them there. Herman Edwards is the most overrated coach in the league period. he ran C. Martin into the ground (yeah I know he was old, but still don't understand why some coaches believe this is a 1 back league, it takes two) and he ran L. Johnson into the ground. L. Johnson didn't have speed or explosion, he flat out look tired.

What the hell has Herman Edwards done.......really, he is a raw raw coach who players ralley behind and thats about it, once he makes it to the playoffs he's outcoached.

I'm sorry you don't pull a guy thats rolling and has a 11 to 1 TD/INT ratio, starting 8 games........period. If Herman coached the Pats of 2001 he would of plugged Bledsoe back into the starting position once healthy and Brady would be the next Huard. I've always felt Edwards is overrated and yesterday he proved it.

I'm not saying Gaffney would of had success here. He was drafted to be the reciever and wasn't, he failed (and would of turned into bad blood being asked to step down to a lesser role), but he can be a good reciever for the Patriots and a good find, especially with Brady as QB.

The Pats fans think their receivers are the worst in the league. Can't say I disagree. Gaff has always been somewhat inconsistent.

For the position they were drafted in JACKSONVILLE has the worst receivers in the league, but they are running a close race with KC.

And you can't forget about the Lions...they had 3 top 10 picks at WR before they let Rogers go. Although Roy Williams is a stud the rest were duds.

I dunno, but is Moulds really an upgrade over Gaff ?

Are you kidding me? Yes, yes, yes....

Just b/c he never got the ball thrown to him in the second half of the season does'nt make him less of a reciever. The first half he did very well b/c we still had a O-line and David saw more than just #80.

Pennington has got to be one of the NFLs all-time overachievers.
Can't run and has one of the most pitifully weak arms that I can remember, and yet he's a dang effective and clutch NFL QB.

The Gaffer is chewing away on the Jets, not alot of stonehands with NE... makes you wonder what the was reason for his lack of success here.... :I

hmm.........good QB play who looks his way......says E. Moulds

Our #2 reciever might as well be a witness protection program

Man this is by far the best game so far!!! Good all around play by both teams. Gaffney is simply catching the ball, it's not like he's some sort of game changer. The only reason he's even on their roster is b/c they lost Branch.

Go Mangenious & the Jets!!!

Gaffney will thrive in NE and I don't doubt he is thanking he's lucky stars right now. Hats off to their FO..............good find, damn good find

They have a system and find players to plug in it.

But give credit to Mike Martz for salvaging Mike Furrey off the scrap heap and turning him into a solid complementary wideout.

Furrey's 2006 season: 98 rec, 1086 yds, 6 TD.

unlike previous year Phili actually has depth and skill at that position.

Fedex...got a return to sender stamp :)
Fredex got a bad rep.

as soon as they grabbed David Thomas I knew what kind of scouting department they had. Without Thomas, Young would be null and void, and Texas wouldn't have beat USC, honestly UT fans, how many times did Thomas come up big for the great VY. Thomas can block and catch and is great YOUNG AND TALENTED DEPTH in NE.........nothing new

Game over...I think the Chargers will handle the Patty-cakes next week though. Nice play by Asante Samuels, he might be the most sought after CB after the playoffs.

Scott Pioli is the smartest man in the game, knows which players to sign and knows when players are over priced and when to cut ties. The man is simply a genius.....period.

The Patriots have something special.

SB formula

Great coach + Great Head Coach (regardless of staff) + Great QB = Dynasty

Is he their GM or what? And yes he is a genious as is Bellicheck!!!

They lose key players and coaches every year and still compete at a high level, it's simply amazing. I want some NE mojo out here in H-Town!!!

Where do you cook this stuff up? Thomas is an excellent player. Young null and void? Great running QBs make TEs better, it's a very simple equation. They open up the middle of the field, and force linebackers and safeties to pay attention to the run threat.

Where do I cook this stuff up...hmm, go back and watch the title game. Tell me who had the most 3rd down catches..hmm, go back and tell be who had to reach around and stretch completely out to catch a very poorly thrown pass behind Thomas, by the almighty Vince to extend a key drive which was one of the reasons why they won the game.

The only thing I'm cooking is the truth. Vince went off in that game, but he wasn't alone. There were ALOT of KEY plays made in that game and Young didn't execute all of them.

I'm not arguing that... but that's a TE's job. Good hands, big catches, QB's best friend. I didn't say Thomas wasn't crucial, I didn't say he didn't help VY, I said that your comment that VY would have been "null and void" without him is ridiculous. He had 50 catches for 616 yards and 5 TD's as a senior. Suffice it to say, lots of TE's could have put up numbers like that in that offense with that QB. Thomas is an excellent player in many phases of the game, but he certainly didn't make VY great.

Counterfactuals are kind of worthless... who knows what the result would have been if something other than what happened would have happened.

FYI the Patriots play in San Diego next week, the Colts play the Ravens. Both should be superb games, likely will end up being better than the Super Bowl outside of all the media and hype around the Super Bowl.

perhaps the confusion came when I used "null and void", too strong of words. I wasn't talking about youngs whole season just talking about the outcome of the title game.......sorry.

When referring to Patriots Vs. Ravens, those are the two teams I expect to go to the AFC Championship. They will eventually meet and face off.

Just goes to show ya, when you have a gr8 QB, any WR can catch. Sure cant wait till we get one.

I just want to say that I am excited for Jabar. I mean he got drafted for an expansion team. Had a starting job for a few years. Which is a lot more then most players in this league.

After the Texans he signs on with Philly, and gets cut. And when all seems to be lost. The pats pick him up. Even though he isn't a starter, atleast he still playing ball. He got 11 catches for 142 yards.

He even scored a TD in the regular season. Ya that stinks.......it was against us.

But Jabar is known. With his 8 catches for 104 yards.

I hope he and pats keep rolling.

He got himself run. Guys look at Gaffney and say he did it right by laying down for the deadend Texans so he could get out. Sad.

I wish Gaffney all the luck in the world. I'll be rooting for him. I thought he was going to be out forever after Philly cut him.

Jabar wasn't doing nothing that he wasn't doing here, he just got the ball more frequently yesterday. If he does anything against SD then i'll be impressed.

The Pats have four Florida receivers (Caldwell, Gaffney, Jackson, and Kight) on their roster. That is all you need to know about how bad their WR situation is.

8 catches for 104>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> decent

especially for a 3rd string reciever.

he looked like the no.1 target/ first read to me for most of that game...also i believe he did ok when he was the #1 for us for a brief period..

he looked ok..didnt do anything special...dropped 1 or 2 easy 1's..reche caldwell looks ok when brady is throwing to him too

I guess he has the last laugh for now. Not only did he get to play in the win against us, now he's in the playoffs. Let's see how far they go.
