Who would take Carr?

afcman

Waterboy
If Carr is let go, what team or teams would be interested in taking him?

Raiders? Tampa Bay?

Who do you think?

Maybe the Raiders, but they will probably grab a QB in the draft. Every other team has a QB with more production and/or potential than Carr at a much cheaper price.

In a trade? I doubt anyone. I thought I read in an article (i beleive is still on the front page of the bullpen) that the other team would have to pay him 11.25 mil over the next 2 years....who would do that?

I think the only type of team that would take a chance on a guy like Carr would be one that is already pretty well established but not happy with their current QB play. The only teams that I can think of who may fit this mold are:

Chicago
Carolina
Kansas City

Even those above, I would bet aren't willing to give anything more than a 4th rounder. I don't believe a team in building/rebuilding mode would be interested in Carr in the slightest

They still have to pay him...you think Chicago or any of those teams can afford Carr and fill whatever other needs they have?

The Raiders might be a good fit.

"The last time the Raiders picked a QB in the first round, it was a disaster, as Todd Marinovich soon found his true calling as a pot-smoking skateboarder."

It's clear that the Raiders prefer a veteran quarterback, and the trade would return him to his California roots. If they gave up a second- or third-round pick for him, the Raiders would still retain their number one pick, which they could then use on Calvin Johnson.

HOWEVER, I doubt this is likely to happen. I don't think Kubiak is ready to give up on Carr. JMO.

Raiders, Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, maybe Buffalo

Very doubtful Buffalo would look at him. Losman had one of the best 2nd halfs of the season of any QB. Unlike Carr, when he started hearing 'put up or shut up' he actually rose to the challenge and showed that he was worthy of the starting job.

I doubt Cleveland would be interested after witnessing Carr's performance last week first hand. It's pretty much a parallel move going from Frye to Carr and when you factor in the financial cost of a Carr, it would never happen. Cleveland will have either Brady Quinn, Russell, or Troy Smith as their Starting QB and all everyone of them will come with aa huge sticker price. That even further muddys the water for Cleveland wanting/getting Carr.

Chicago?!?!?! You mean the 13-3 Chicago Bears?!?! So you think a team that is 13-3 is going to even think about switching QBs to a guy who has a roughly 25% winning percentage and has a huge financial price tag?

Green Bay? Well, if Farv-ruh decides to retire, all bets are off. They wouldn't have to pay Favre so Carr's salary (even slightly reworked) could fit in there. Personally, I feel GreenBay could not look their fans in the face and pass off Carr as a true heir to Favre. Still probably the 3rd most likely potential trade destination for Carr.

Which brings us to the Lions and Raiders. Both teams 'supposedly' have talent galore but havent been able to put it together and produce wins. Sounds pretty familiar, huh? Carr would be 'perfect' for these teams.

I actually think he will just be a June salary cap casualty and his contract will go up in flames. Then he will get picked up by a contender as a backup. A lot of contending teams are losing their backups to possible starting roles this year. Carr as an inexpensive FA backup may sound attractive to many contending teams. Carr already has his money, he could then go to a 'better' situation and possibly blossom and grow while under a contending veteran QB....Lord knows, it ain't happenin' here

just mho

No one but the Raiders or Lions would be ignorant enough to do it.

Well, if you can't trade Carr, you can always take him over to Houston Auto Auction on the Gulf Freeway. They auction worthless pieces of junk to the highest bidder every Wednesday afternoon..

I don't think that lightning will strike twice, but David Carr is the kind of reach that Jerry Jones would normally make.

donate him to Houston Can Academy. If the Carr can get them to and from work, its a salary cap errr tax write-off. At least we get some mileage out of him that way.

These Carr to car* analogies are fantastic! So fresh, whimsical, and imaginative. Pure genius.

*Carr to car <====== one "r" like an automobile - who has the creativity to come up with this stuff?

The truth hurts. Look at the guy with the Texans construction hat with all the medals on it.
Guy is a hardcore fan, but does he look happy or better yet entertained?

Dude looks like he is at an insurance seminar.....classic photo of the 'Texans Experience'.....there is even a guy chatting on the phone....brilliant photographer

That one picture basically sums up the whole season of the Texans. No direction. No excitement. No competitive spirit. Just a flatlining team with bored fans

Personally, I wouldn't bring a sign to a game due to it infringing on the rights of the people behind me to see the game...but I support the protest...Power To The People

The clock's about to strike midnight for Tony Romo.

Damn, I thought it had already struck Midnight for him. I think Romo jumped the shark when he was talking to Carrie Underwood before the game Christmas Day.

Dude, get your head in the freaking game...and no, not that head....

I am all for pulling wool but before the most important game of the season? Cmon Romo, get a hold of yourself, man.

Minnesota might take him from us, They have an aging Brad Johnson and some rookie, forgot his name.

Um....yea! Trust me, the Bears are winning IN SPITE of Grossman right now. They are ready to run him out of town in Chicago.......If they don't win the SB this year, he will be gone

He may be gone if he performs poorly...but do you think the Bears would be so naive as to even consider bringing in Carr to win, much less win a SB almost immediately? Not a chance in hell...

BINGO !!!!!!

This team needs LIFE! Some kind of SPARK! And there are NO players on the team that are giving that either to themselves or the fans.

THAT's why I wanted Bush, or Cutler, or Leinhart, or Young. Bush or Young would have at LEAST given some KICK to the team. The Texans are BORING. Here in Lubbock the local CBS used to show every Texans game. They don't do that anymore.

Last season and the first part of this season the Titans were the same way. Boring. Now they're jacked up and kicking. Their games are on TV. They're all over the media. Who knows what the future holds, but the tickets and merchandise is selling NOW. And it's exciting to the fans. And they're winning. Attitude means a LOT.

Raiders would. Al Davis does not draft a QB at the 1st round and he prefers a veteran QB. I think we could get 3rd or even 2nd round pick for Carr if we trade him to the Raiders.

Carr as a veteran backup after being a June casualty? maybe...but not a trade.

I honestly don't believe Carr could expect to start for another team. The Houston Texans is his only shot at starting.....

The only way David would get to Oakland is if they hire someone from the FresnoState family of coaches who had good memories of David Carr. Other than that, what does Carr have that Andrew Walther doesn't?? If I were to think I could develop a never was into a winning QB, I'd just as well start with Andrew Walther as I would with David Carr. Besides...... if'n I were Oakland, I'd start with a center and a guard and a running back........and as previously mentioned they've got to do something about their WR situation, and CJ might be the answer(and only real #1 in this draft). They don't have time to be messing around with QBs right now.

Chicago.. I can see this.... they need someone to start for them...... Brian Griese can't get the job from Grossman... and Grossman gives away as many points as he scores.... David could be brought in to take care of the ball on offense..... but just like the Ravens got tired of that brand of football, I doubt the Bears will put up with it for much longer. But re-uniting Carr with Bernard Berrian....... hmmmmmmmmm.

Instead of looking for teams that would be desperate for a QB(no one else will take him...... lets stop fooling our selves.....) lets think of somewhere he could go and have a real chance to succeed.

CoachDent said that David was a spread offense QB. So that would be the kind of offense we should be looking at.

Detroit comes to mind..... if David could hook up with MikeMartz... maybe he could do something and be successful. It would be ironic though.... I mean being successful in Detroit(QB Blackhole). He'd have to go as the backup though.... Kitna's earned that job.

Tennessee.... Irony again... backing up VY..... but Kerry doesn't deserve to even be a back-up.. you know he ain't got nothing to teach VY.... when Vihizzy gets hurt, the Titans are going to want someone that won't give the game away..... if David has earned a rep in this league, I believe this is it.... that & being tough as nails.. Now what would really be ironic, is if(like CoachDent says) David fits the system better, and actually outplays Vince when he's given the opportunity. Bud Adams would probably die laughing though.

StL..... Is Jamie Martin still there?? do they need a backup?? you don't need a lot of time in that pocket... those guys are wide open from the snap, and all running downfield.... I like this scenario the most.

KC.... pitty patt..... run the ball..... throw the deep ball....... it could work.... but they have too many QBs as is.

It's very possible that we will not be able to trade Carr at all, but simply have to let him go. The only reason a team would trade even a seventh round pick is that they think someone else will get Carr instead. Honestly, how many teams are thinking, "We sure better give Houston a fourth round pick before team XXXX grabs him!"?

Then the next problem is who is Carr replaced with? "Anybody" isn't a sufficient answer. "Anybody but Carr" sounds a lot like "Anyone but Bush" in the last election. We we how well that went for the Democrats when they ended up with John Kerry. I'm fine with a trade, but the position must be UPGRADED.

Yeah, da bears are going to help us out with the four million or so cap dollars. The bears are our freind. This is too funny. Now all together...

Kumba Ya My freind....

Rep your way if I got any in the bank.

for some reason, i cant see carr fitting in with the rest of the raider locker room. tampa seems committed to simms for at least another season. carr would probably get looks from miami to be reunited with capers. washington is also looking for a QB.

?!?!?! Do you think Capers wants anything to do with Carr? That guy was partly responsible for Capers getting canned from his dream job with the Texans. No way in hell....

as for Washington, that is ludicrous. Jason Campbell was drafted in last years draft in the 1st Round. He played like 6 games once they were 'out' of playoff race (little did they know how bad the NFC would end) He has shown well in the limited starts he was given. There is no scenario short of an injury to Campbell in the offseason that would have Carr playing for the Washington Redskins next year. Campbell is a damn good Quarterback and they are already pleased with what they have seen so far. Very pleased, I might add. They wouldn't even bring in Carr if he was released by the Texans and picked up for low $$. He has little to no football IQ and his intangibles and work ethic are notoriously inadequate. They wouldnt want Carr rubbing off on Campbell at all.

I guess what I am trying to say is that NO TEAM will trade anything for David and his current contract. Zilch. Nada. None.

HOWEVER, I do think that if and when he is released by the Texans, he will be picked up as a FA and will sign for meager money to be a backup or compete for job.
He isn't finished playing QB in this league. However, he is finished playing QB in this league under his current contract. Of that there is no question.

Who do you think?

Dallas Cowboys, Jones hates Romo (a Parcells pick)..Jerry thinks he can make magic on field....he will gladly give up #1 for Carr:stirpot:

If he leaves.. I know Gruden had already asked the Texans or showed intrest in Carr... Minn is another place he can go too but i tell you QB's dont grow from trees... I would not feel good if Sage starts because he has always been a backup and when he played in Miami he sucked... yea he had one good game against the Titans so that is enough to play him?

Jake Plummer? You want a guy who suck as much as Carr last year on a team better than the Texans? They have better running game and better O-Line. Walker is like a Andre Johnson and their scheme has been in place for a long time...

How bout a rookie QB? Yea Brady and Russell might be good prospects but damn it I dont want to see rookie mistakes like Romo Last night...

These are sexy picks for me.. With Carr you seen what he has done with BELOW average talent... you see fly routes to AJ, Mathis a couple of times and Bradfords drops. You know he is tough and a good runner (4th in the league QB since 2002). Did he give you enough big plays? No but Plummer didnt last year on a better team, Sage didnt when he started last year in Miami and Rookies arent proven yet.

Many teams would take carr it doesnt hurt to have a Back up with some starting experience but i doubt at the current price tag. so teams will likely wait to pay david carr what he is worth about 500 to 600k with a 500 dollar signing bonus after he is cut of course.:stirpot:

Gruden has a QB very similar to Carr already on his team in Simms, and 'flat out' says he wants a 'proven' winner and has top $$ to pay for one--86yds and 0 tds plus an int against the 31st defense in the league is not what Gruden (or anybody? else is looking for).

Too, until Kubiak gives someone else more than a few plays in a game to show what they can do, it's a 'moot' point to say Carr is better. Who knows, maybe we have the next Tom Brady on the roster...

I know who would take Carr! Pick-a-Part! They take any beat up old Carr for a cheap good price. That is where I would send my car. :D

:joker:

I honestly could see the Bucs taking him.

Carr could be Rich Gannon for Gruden down there. A 2nd or 3rd would satisfy me to move him quite frankly.

That being said I dont want to take him only to see plummer come in and be the starter.

I'm getting a bit disturbed that this might turn into the denver bronco cast-off team.
