Who do u think the texans first 2 picks will be in this years draft

1st rd.-Adrian Peterson or Trade down and get marshawn lynch
both are great running backs who should be the starter in 2008 or halfway through the 2007 season
2nd rd.-Kevin Kolb hopefully still there great quarterback with lots of potential. sign a veteran quaterback who's like him Jeff Garcia maybe and then see what happens in 2008

Before seeing what we are going to do in free agency, I think there's a good shot we take Landry in the first round. I would like to see us trade down and get more picks but that will be hard to do because finding a trading partner isn't easy. In the second round I'm hoping we can get Rufus Alexander or Posluzsny, one of them and DeMeco could really shape up a great defense.

I'm going to go ahead and say they will not draft a running back in the first 3 rounds. Need to draft an O-lineman, D-lineman, and Saftey (possibly substitue one of those for a QB like maybe Kolb or Smith, depending on free agency and Carr's fate of course).

Kolb will be there in the third round.

After watching DeMarcus Russell tonight, I can tell you that he would look nice in Houston. He is a very nice quarterback. He is a junior so hopefully he will only come out if he comes to Houston! :marionaner:

Strange how many times I've seen people mistake his name for DeMarcus. It's actually JaMarcus. I think he's a fantastic prospect and, in fact, I've read where some scouts believe he could be taken ahead of Brady Quinn if he comes out. But he's not terribly mobile so I don't see him being a rollout QB like the WCO uses. He's more of a pure pocket passer...

His arm strength is very good. Stronger than VY to be sure. Throws a very nice ball.

Has been a little mechanical at times with some of the no read balls. These are passes where he is just turning and throwing. Almost had the bubble screen picked off because he was not quick. But he is one talented guy. I liek him a lot.

We are not drafting a rb in the 1st or 2nd. First round will be OL (Thomas if available). If not most certainly going to be safety or defensive tackle or cornerback, my bet is free safety. 2nd round i could see us going cb,lb,dt,ol whichever one is best available player. 3rd i really think we could get Kolb at this pick.
Just a note to all the Russell fans, including myself, he will be gone by pick #8. He will be the first qb taken and i wouldn't be suprised to see Quinn still on the board at our #8 pick and i don't think we should even bother with him. With the state of our o-line, he would be another clone of Carr.

best available player in both rounds. we have too many holes to fill to pick for need. however, in my opinion, id take landry then corner in 2nd

Honoring Earl 34

Something Witty !
If Russell , Brohm , and Brennen stay in school ... then in 2008 those three QBs along with Mcfadden , Slaton , and Charles make a pretty stout QB and RB class . Then add OT's Long , Baker , and Gaither makes 2008 the year to get a offensive gem .

Typically, if Kubiak/Smith follows what has been done while he was in Denver in the past, he tries to get playmaking defensive guys in early rounds, and system offensive guys in later rounds. Once in a while, Denver will reach up for a need or for a player (Cutler, Portis), but more often than not they have drafted defense first.

Lots of needs all over the team, both in flashy and non-flashy positions. Maybe Detroit will draft another wide receiver and we will draft another defensive lineman in the first round. :hides:

with high hopes of getting nate clements and eric steinbach via free agency...

the first round will be laron landry or alan branch if he declares and falls that far...

the second round would be lawrence timmons or earl everett, which ever one of them that is left on the bard they should most likely pick...

third should be kolb, i honestly think he should be the bpa at that point, and he has a chance of becoming an oustanding qb in the nfl...

in the fourth, we should take a defensive lineman the best one left on the board

in the fifth, go for a running back, darius walker should still be there and he would be a hidden talent that would run well in kubes system...

in the sixth, try marcus bacon, an outside linebacker or saftey that can hit, see if he can make the team...

in the sventh go for the best punter or kicker left in the draft...

Russell has out played Quinn tonight. He should come out. I do not think he will be there at the 8th spot if he did. But, who knows! After five years I have no freakin idea who in the he!! we take......It all depends on the juniors if they declare.

Games on won in the trenches! After Spener's knee problem, what do they do? High profile position or linemen? Man, it's going to be intresting off-season!

I say this:

1st round Left Tackle (Joe Thomas)!! The ideal pick :marionaner:

If he isn't there look to trade for more picks.

If nothing turns out, then evaluate what is more in need Defensive Line, Corner back, free saftey, or running back. There will be a good player there to take!!!

But, I first want to see what the Texans do in Free Agency. It appears that there are some good talent evaluators working for the Texans.

I don't know why people say we won't pick a RB in the first round. We tried to trade back into the first round to get a RB last year. We had a very inconsistent running game this year and will lose Domanick Davis/Williams.

We are going to draft either Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch with the first pick. Joe Thomas will be gone, Gaines Adam will be gone, Calvin Johnson will be gone, JaMarcus Russell will be gone, Brady Quinn will be gone, and LaRon Landry didn't look like a top 10 pick tonight.

Just because Kubiak came from Denver and Denver has had such success drafting running backs in later rounds doesn't mean that we won't take a running back in the first round if it's the right guy. If we really were trying to trade up to get DeAngelo Williams... then that's proof enough right there. (Thank god we didn't, though.)

With Kubiak's comments about playmakers, I won't be surprised if he goes offense this draft. (Although I'd be really happy with a defensive oriented draft if it builds a really stingy defense.)

I'm interested in reading what people think at this point about which guys are prospects and where they should go, I don't follow much college ball. But I really think it's way to early to start getting fixated on anyone. There's a long way to go before teams are going to be deciding what they need and who they want to fill it. We've still got some free agency and the combines and workouts and we still don't know all the players that are even going to declare.

Landry would be a nice pick. Aaron Ross, too. The defensive secondary is, IMO, the weakest section of the team. Having Ross opposite Dunta or Landry in the backfield would give a much needed boost to the defense.

Assuming Carr is asking for a line that can protect, I wonder if Kubes won't answer in the second round with a center. Neither Flanagan nor Hodgdon has shown themselves to be the answer, and McKinney cannot play center forever.

I wouldn't mind getting the WR from Notre Dame Samardijiza-maybe a little high at 8. I think we may trade down and if we do so we should draft Justin Blalock from Texas-badass guard or tackle. I wouldn't be suprised to see Rick Smith accumulate some picks.

It is very possible that Ryan Khalil (C - USC) is available at the top of the 2nd round. I wouldn't mind taking a big time Center like him or possibly the USC LT Ryan Baker in the 2nd. I think it is a good breed of lineman.

I think you're thinking of Sam Baker from usc. and he's staying in school. next year should have a lot more 1st rd olinemen.

and yes i believe khalil will be available in the 2nd...i havn't seen him projected as a 1st but who knows come draft day. ive seen him going late 2nd rd and during the 3rd rd so we might be able to get him in the 3rd.

I would have no problem drafting C at 2nd round if they used the 1st round pick for defense. If not, we may have to stick with defense in 2nd round and hope Khalil falls..i think he would be a great pick to help anchor the line

Just a quick thing on JaMarcus. They talked about this this morning on 610 but I've heard it all year and have discussed it myself. Great arm, very big guy BUT still a project. He is probably ahead of Quinn and I think he will be a stud but he had some horrible games this year against Ds that are alot better than NDs. At this point an NFL D would eat him up. Just throwing that out there.

They were just talking about this on Sporting News Radio and said the same thing. Seemed to have done well against lesser defenses, but had problems with the good ones. Of course you might expect a QB to have a problem against good defenses that is why they are a good defense, but it is a data point. The guy leading the discussion thought Quinn was more ready for the NFL. Not sure I can agree with that.

Quinn may be a little more polished but I think he overrated. So I'm not sure how I'd rank them. I'd definitely take both behind the top 3 last year.

You may not have heard, but in the Denver system, which is now our system, you don't take running backs in the 1st round. They might go defense again since there are no OL's there after Thomas is taken that most will think is worthy of an 8th pick. Jamarcus might be tempting if he's still there. I guess I liked what I saw of him in the Sugar Bowl, except when he didn't protect the ball when he was getting sacked. Where have we seen that before?
2nd pick hard to say because you don't know who is left. I'll take another guy just like DeMeco, I think.

Dec. 18, 2006

We hear that CB Nate Clements’ strong play in recent weeks virtually assures the fact that he’ll be leaving the Bills via free agency this coming offseason. We hear that the agreement between the Bills and Clements that the team would not use the franchise tag on the 27-year-old for a second consecutive year was written into Clements’ one-year contract for 2006.

As a result, the Bills must decide whether they’re willing to make Clements, who boasts excellent size, speed and playmaking ability and was a Pro Bowler after the ’04 season, one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the game, or allow him to leave. We hear that a number of teams are already lining up to make a run at Clements if he hits the open market. Word is the Bills and Clements have had preliminary discussions regarding a new deal, but that they were so far apart they decided that any further discussion would be a waste of time. With needs at several positions, we hear it’s unlikely that the Bills will break the bank for one player.
Smells like a bidding war to me. How many million under the cap...with the DC cut ? Might want to drop down a rung DC cut guys...Gay or one fo the second teired CBs, I'm thinking.

If they don't pick up a top FS or CB in FA, and since Joe Thomas will be gone by the 8th pick, my guess is they go for Landry or Nelson and maybe try to trade down a few spots to get more value out of the pick. Either way, one of them should be there. The problem is, if you trade down, who would be willing to trade up to the 8th spot that would have a pick that would assure us we'd get either Landry or Nelson? At this point it's way too early to tell.

2nd round, I can see them maybe drafting Joe Staley (LT), Ryan Kalil (C), or Rufus Alexander (LB), or even Amobi Okoye (DT). But again, it's way too early to tell who will still be there on the board. It's a long time between now and draft day, but it sure is fun speculating! :um:

The Texans are in a tough position for the draft this year and free agency. A lot of holes to fill but complementing David Carr has to be the top priority. They haven't done that since the beginning and it has to be done now! Just adding Kubiak isn't going to help Carr, that much we know.

That means a big name running back and some big name offensive lineman are going to have join this squad. So you guys can forget about getting a high draft pick in the defensive secondary. It just doesn't make sense if you have to help Carr out. Do you see what I am saying?

Or the Genuis Owner named Bob McNair and his comment that Carr can't be evaluated because he doesn't have the players will make absolutely no sense or the guy just can't follow through with things.

As you can tell, I really could care less about McNair right now. As each day passes, I get the feeling he is the biggest problem the Texans have right now because of his meddling with very key decisions.

Kubiak has stated that he wants a better RB in our backfield. He has also stated that he is looking for a PLAYMAKER in the first of the draft. That statement alone removes OL from the equation. Also, according to his segment on 610 a few days ago, he believes that something needs to be done to improve our DB's and WR's this offseason. RB, DT, DB, and even WR is a possibility with our first pick. WR would be a stretch, even if we were able to trade down substantially, but it is still possible. We may be impressed with AJ, Moulds, and Walter but apparently the staff is not.

WR is probably the best situation for the Texans right now.

The best way to help Carr right now and stop the excuses, is get him a big name back!

Another WR is really pointless. If they can't use Moulds, I don't see how another WR is worth the effort.

I agree to an extent but also disagree. You saw what Dayne did when the line was working well. given the opposing defenses weren't as good as the beginning of the season. I don't really care about the 'big name' back anymore. as long as our o-line comes around, I'll take any guy that avg. 5yds a carry if we can consistently manage the clock and have extended drives. thats all i care about on offense for a while..then get playmakers once that develops. this year is loaded with defensive guys for the 1st two rds so we have to take advantage of that. next years 1st two rds will be loaded with offensive guys...so we need to take advantage of that ..and we can't force anything.

I will admit. I would'nt be upset at all if Joe Thomas falls to us (unlikely) or Jamarcus Russell. I could live with them and be ahappy camper. I really like Peterson a lot but i'm just not sold on him. lynch is said to fit our team better. calvin johnson may be the best player in the draft but i dont really want us to draft him which makes me sad, lol.

Thomas yes. Russell probably yes. peterson ...meh lynch me...other offensive guys...no

Defense baby. we'll get a lot better indication once we start in free agency..thats going to be really fun. i can't wait to see what we do. and what happens around the league...with all the coaching changes..and see how schaub affects this draft.

I think we shoud keep Carr and bring in a quality offensive lineman in free agency. In round one either we improve the pass rush with Alan Branch or get the explosive compliment that Kubiak wants for Dre Johnson and pick either Ginn or Jarrett. In the second round we get another o-lineman and in 3 we take a d-back.

It's not that there aren't any OLTs out there. There is only one lock at OLT this year. Spencer came from no where last year. Day two guys are on the board. Just gotta get lucky with one. We're not buying insurance so Walter Jones doesn't have to cover OLT. We're buying insurance so Salaam isn't stuck out ther again for forteen games. There's some prospects out there.

I'm with you, TF. I'd love to see us take Landry and Posluzsny (or Alexander) - either 1 and 2 or maybe with 2 late 1st round picks if we need to trade across to that. We have a few players I can see getting traded - Gado, either Dayne or Davis and Travis Johnson in particular.

I don't see us drafting at RB. Davis is starting to sound like he's coming back and our other guys did pretty good behind a crappy O-Line this year. Our most glaring holes are O-Line, CB, FS, OLB, P. If we can pick up Landry and either Posluzsny or Alexander in the draft and then go for a big time CB (like Samuel) and a stud OLB (like Briggs, June or Thomas) in FA then we'll have a pretty fearsome D. The rest of the draft we could build our O-Line, pick up a QB who shows potential, find someone who can punt and then any bargains who slip through the nets.

Tayton

Nothing I like better than a hard hitting Free Safety but our most glaring need is at CB (even worse than QB). I pray that we don't go into next year with Faggins at our starting CB. I also would not be surprised if we take a playmaker on offense. Hopefully we won't have a top ten pick next year and top tier offensive players go early. Personal opinion right now (and always subject to change) Lynch/Jarrett, Carriker, Kolb, AJ Davis and sign a meaningful DB and OL.
