Yeah, and he didn't even show up for the meeting with the owner to tell him his decision.
 
well i'm somewhat upset, more at the fact that the franchise has to go through another period of transition.

i really like jim mora, and i hope we look at him first. of course, with the way the offense has sucked since.....uh...marino......we may want to look at an offensive guy. mariucci, whisenhut, etc.
 
man, i totally lost respect for nick saban. turns out the devil is offering him 50 million for his soul; stay tuned, people.
 
Man the Dolphins owner looks pretty bummed!!! I can't believe he is'nt livid after all the lip service Saban was giving to the media about not leaving.

And Kastofsna I hope you are just joking!!! Dum dum Dom will ruin your franchise!!! Keep him in the box.Mora I like though. Mora-Vick= Good HC

You cant expect Saban to say that he is going to take the Alabama job midway through the season with the Dolphins....its just not the way it works...
 
Time for Dom Capers to get a promotion. Bring in Chris Palmer as the OC, and Vic Fangio to take Capers defensive coordinator spot and you're set.

I'm not sure if that's the best way to go (hiring an offensive coach in hopes of fixing the offense). Mariucci didn't fix the offensive problems in Detroit just as Billicheck didn't fix them in Baltimore.

Mora would be an outstanding fit though.

i agree with you, but that's the general thought that owners seem to have, isn't it? sometimes it works....the bucs hired gruden...

the problem with mora is his comments about Washington. i'm sure he was joking, but it would kinda suck to see him jump ship a year or two into his gig at miami to go back to college. how ****ed up would that be? but other than that, he's a great fit.
 
What a snake! After weeks of saying that he would not take the 'Bama job, he takes the job and doesn't even bother showing up at the Dolphins press conference. Real classy, Saban!
 
All about the money. Now nothing wrong with that, but finish out your contract before just quitting and finding something else. And not showing up to tell the owner, well that is bush !
 
The only problem I have with this is that Saban flat out lied about not being interested.

Huizenga said he received repeated assurances from Saban that he would return in 2007, and the coach issued frequent, angry public denials of interest in moving to Tuscaloosa, such as on Dec. 21, when he said: "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."


Dec 8th "Saban told his players Thursday morning he is not leaving. The coach also told owner Wayne Huizenga on Sunday he was not interested in Alabama."

What a jerk. Leads the owner, players, and most importantly, the FANS on like he is going to return. Then slips out the back door for more money.

If you are going to take the job fine. If you are interested in going back to college ball then fine. But dont sit here and shovel this garbage down my throat, and get mad at reporters for revealing the true Saban.

I had heard that the owner went to Saban's house and met with him there. Got his decision. And then... I don't know what happened except that Saban didn't show up at the press conference and said goodbye to his assistant coaches via a conference call.

I'm just wondering if Huizenga (sp) TOLD him not to come to the press conference. Maybe there was a "If you're not our coach, we don't want you on our facilities" sort of thing. I can't believe anyone would be such a coward as to just skip out like that. I mean, that's just freaking gutless.
 
nah, huizenga is a really nice guy and would never do that. he really liked saban. doing the ole goodbye via conference call sorta fits saban's persona now, doesn't it?
 
Saban owes an apology to the entire Dolphins roster....no commitment what so ever...If i was a top highschool prospect, im not sure i would want this guy in my house...

and that's ultimately going to be his downfall. how can this deal not be looked at as just going for the money? what will kids think about that? he's not going to get the best players, and he's going to lose to auburn, and he's going to get fired, or just go somewhere else.
 
Well 32 million dollars win or lose, get fired or not, and he says and the Dolphin owner said it's not about the money...then please tell me something to buy into.
 
He hasn't stayed anyplace more than 4 years and some places only 1 year. I don't think I want to have my ball in his court. I think he loses a lot of credibility over this.
 
I don't think this is about the money. A poster on the 49er board pointed out he is already making a lot in Miami, and the reason why he quit was that he was scared of rebuilding a team. I think I agree with that.

Saban joins the growing list of carpetbaggers that make a call at Tuscaloosa.....

Remember Dennis Franchione? He bailed out of TCU to take the Bama job, and was gone to College Station just two years later.

Saban's no different. And I don't blame any parent of a high school recruit that slams a door in his face.

Hall of Famer ex-coach Don Shula lambasted Nick Saban on Wednesday for quitting the Miami Dolphins after two years to take a job with Alabama, the Miami Herald and other news organizations reported.

''He has run away from the challenge,'' Shula told the Herald. ''It's unbelievable. There were four or five direct statements that were blatant lies. That tells you a little bit about the guy.

"The guy likes to hear himself talk and then doesn't follow up on what he says.''

"Saban, in the two years here, was 15-17," Shula told Cox News Service. "So I guess I'm surprised that he's leaving — and surprised that Alabama wanted him."

He was always so boring on 610 when he had his coach's show on there.

I like Bama so I hope he does well for the team's sake.
 
Nick Satan is a bastard. He will fail miserably in Alabama. He has no credibility anymore. You need credibility when you go into a recruits house to make a pitch for your program. The recruiting in Alabama is extremely competitive. Mike Shula was doing a pretty good job considering he was under certain sanctions. Hell..they were in the Cotton Bowl last year.

Wouldn't it be funny if Miami hired Mike Shula and he did well, but Satan fails. Satan will be squirming like a worm. Maybe one day we'll see him coaching at Toledo again. Back where he started.

But anyway, since I am a huge Miami fan, I'm excited about bringing in someone with a stronger commitment than Satan. It will be nice to have someone in there that really cares for the franchise and is glad to be our coach. So in that sense, Satan's exit is a true blessing.

I like Jim Bates a lot. He was our interim coach for a few games when Wannstedt resigned. Bates went 3-4 during his short tenure ..in a season when we finished only 4-12. So Bates led the team to 3 of the 4 wins. He was also our defensive coordinator. I was hoping he would get the job before Saban was hired. Not sure if he is even on the Dolphin's current list of prospects though.

I don't know enough about Mora to make a judgement. Regarding Capers, I hope not. I like him as a defensive coach though. I have been praying all along that Mularkey would be fired as our offensive coordinator, so I really hope and pray he doesn't get the job. All those trick plays he called that never worked.

Anyway, let me say good riddance to Nick Satan. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!!
 
But aren't the days of corporate loyalty a thing of the past? It didn't start with the employees either. I remember many years ago on a drive home from work that I heard that Bum Phillips was fired about the same time that he found out. How many other coaches have had the same fate, blindsided? :stirpot:
