Landry Vs. Merriweather Vs. Nelson

Stick with just these 3 Safeties and tell me their pros and cons.

We discuss these 3 a lot but its kinda scattered and I value a few peoples opinions on here so I want to put them in one post (If it has not been done before, sorry if it has)

Also, is Nelson a bit to small to survive the NFL hits from the bigger backs and WRs? He is listed at 195, I think?
 
Landry is the best all around safety in the draft...Merriweather has characteristic issues, but he;s not a bad athlete...Nelson, is too small and would need to bulk up if he wanted to last a whole season in the NFL...these are my thoughts on each...
 
Landry- Best all around. Does everything. Can blitz and cover. Equally good at both. The most polished and disciplined of the 3.

Nelson- Best cover safety and can really patrol the secondary. Aggressive against the run but a little undersized. Plays a little reckless.

Meriweather- A combo of both. A little undersized, but can do everything like Landry. Better blitzer than in coverage, but is still good in coverage. Plays a little reckless.

All are big hitters.
 
How is he too small. He's 6'1'' 198 lbs. That's 4 lbs. less than Landry and Landry looks solid to me. Also you gotta watch him, the guy plays bigger than his listed size. The hits he's layed on some people are bone crushing. He's the prospect with the most upside and would fit our team best. Either guy would help, but Nelson seems to have more potential.
 
who, nelson or meriweather? nelson apeears quite lanky and needs to gain 10 pounds to play safety in the nfl. sure, he plays bigger and hits hard, but thats against college players in a shorter schedule. meriweather needs to put on a little weight as well. its not a big deal, but compared to other safeties in the nfl, they are considered undersized.
 
Ed Reed is 5'11'' 200 lbs. 2 inches and 2 lbs. is not that huge a difference and Reed light's people up well on the pro level.
 
for our defense, nelson fits better because of his coverage skills. he's not as good attacking the line like landry or meriweather, but thats ok. landry is no slouch in coverage either, and neither is meriweather. we could use any of the 3. however, i think we would be better off taking Revis the CB with our 1st and then taking Meriweather in the 2nd, who is sure to fall because of his character concerns. we have big weaknesses at both spots, and we get 2 guys who are considered at the top of the class at their positions.

Mike Adams 5,11 185lbs 49ers FS
Will Allen 6,1 200lbs Bucs FS
Marlon McCree 5,11 202lbs
Mike Minter 5,10 195lbs panthers FS

Reggie Nelson 6,1 198lbs looks to me like he only needs to gain about 5 pounds. Which is like a big glass of milk and a twinky.

I thought he was listed at 193lbs. Anyways, he still looks fairly thin IMO. It's not that big of a deal, so i dont know why you keep bringing it up.

I think I have only brought it up once. I think your right about him being 193lbs but it still shouldnt be to hard for him to gain 5 to 10 pounds
 
Landry is as solid a S as you can get in an ameture draft. He won't wow you with any one aspect except maybe blitzing. He has good speed, smooth hips, good size, and can support in the run game. Thicker build that the others.

Nelson burst onto the scene this year and played extremely well. His body and game remind me a lot of D-rob. He has a wirey frame but LOVES to make the big hit. He makes WR's hear footsteps, but he needs to work on fundamental tackling more. He is the best cover FS in the draft and has amazing ball hawking skills. Top end speed and knows how to make plays. The top NFL FS prospect.

Merriwether comes with baggage, but most of that is put on my the media and us. He is the smallest of the 3 I believe, and also has a wirey frame. He is more of a FS/CB hybrid. His backpedal and hips could put him as a nickle CB right away, but he is more bennificial to a team as a FS. Not the best S on his team, but a 1st round talent. Big hitter at times, but needs to work on open field tackling. Good speed, but not great. Decent hands and good recations. Nose for the ball.
 
After watching the bowl games I got to go with Landry!

I saw him in on every play and frankly on that TD run by OSU Nelson looked like CC Brown and missed the entire play and took a HORRIBLE bad angle.

Its way to early to be 100% on anyone, but I think Landry has a step ahead.

Landry kind of reminds me of ex-Oiler S Blaine Bishop. Bishop wasn't as fast I don’t' think but he was a comparable hitter.
