Dom Capers for Steelers HC?

CAPERS TO GET A THIRD CHANCE?

There's talk in league circles that one of the possible candidates to replace Steelers coach Bill Cowher when/if/when he leaves is Dolphins defensive coordinator Dom Capers.

Capers was Cowher's first defensive coordinator, and Capers also was the first head coach of the Carolina Panthers. After being fired by the Panthers, he later became the first head coach of the Houston Texans.

Capers' biggest success as a head coach came in 1996, when he led the fledgling Panthers to the NFC Championship Game.

He also has a terrible toupee/weave/combover.
From everyone's favorite rumor mill.

IIRC, Dom is well thought of in steeltown due to his defenses. I wonder if they know he has had a couple of HC gigs that haven't gone to well since he left there?

Yeah, they have to be conflicted in Steelernation about Capers. On one hand he is one of the co-creators of the version of the 3-4 defense they run and on the other hand he sucks as a head coach. Would he be different for the Steelers?

I actually think this would be a good fit. If he's willing to relinquish control to an offensive coordinator, Dom is great at running a 3-4 with the proper defensive players. The defensive pieces are pretty much in place in Pittsburgh, so he would be able to let the draft and FA work for the offense.

Then again...he is Dom Capers. :stirpot:

Better them then us....
lmao.gif

huh? why would he be a candidate? last i checked, the steelers aren't an expansion team.

man i hope not. it's bad enough that saban left. i want as much consistency in the coaching ranks as possible.

Anyone think Capers takes the head coach job at Miami since Saban left and their Defense was pretty good this year?

Yea that's exactly what I was thinking. With Saban leaving Capers might just step up....wrong choice of words...how about step into that position.

it's certainly possible. it seems like huizenga might wanna get a guy who he can be sure will not quit and take another job elsewhere anytime soon, and i'm sure capers doesn't have too many people knocking on his door.

tough call. never got to see capers take the reigns of a veteran team before, so who knows how he'd fare. most important thing we have to do right now is get rid of mike mularkey.

Unless, of course, it's Mularkey who moves up into the HC position. I guess that's ONE way to get a new OC.

i sure loved that shampoo commercial they put him in for last years probowl, that little bottle of shampoo for his hair... I love it....lol...

FINS INTERVIEWED CAPERS IN JAX

Alex Marvez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Wayne Huizenga's jet was in Jacksonville on Monday, and that Huizenga was on it, for the purposes of interviewing defensive coordinator Dom Capers for the vacant head coaching position.

In all, the Fins have interviewed nine candidates for the position vacated by Nick Saban on Wednesday.

Capers has a home in the Jacksonville area.

He also has a squirrel on his head.
Said squirrel is rumored to be a possum

Update:
If Bill Parcells chooses to stay and hires a defensive coordinator from within, secondary coach Todd Bowles and linebackers coach Paul Pasqualoni could be the top choices. If the Cowboys look outside the organization, Miami's Dom Capers could be a possibility. Capers interviewed for the Dolphins head coaching job Monday, but he has experience running the 3-4 system, having worked in Pittsburgh.

I would love Capers in Dallas. :stirpot:

I would hope that Capers doesn't bring Fangio with him, that is the kiss of death. If he kept everyone there as is and just became a head coach, he'd be alright.

He's a good coordinator..that's what they are talking about. Not as the Cowboys head coach if Bill is gone.

I really would like to see Capers as a head coach again, and Casserly as a GM.

It would be interesting to see if they would trade for some of the Texans talent that they drafted or signed as FA's.:stirpot:

Maybe we can trade Babin for Polamalu. Babin has a lot of potential and Polamalu doesn't seem to fit the system.
