A New Year's MOCKarena...this should stir the pot

Texian

Hall of Fame
1. OAKLAND - Calvin Johnson, no surprise, with Porter leaving and Moss wanting out why not take the best player in the draft. Could surprise and take Russell.

2. DETROIT - some surprise here, ranks 32nd in rushing offense, Martz flexes his muscle, Lions need to win soon or get fired. K Jones anemic 689 yds, 3.8 avg yds isn't getting it done, Lions take:Adrian Peterson

3. CLEVELAND - with the 3rd worst rushing defense and NT Ted Washington going into his 17th year, Browns take:Alan Branch

4. TAMPA - Bucs took (2) OL w/ 1st two picks last year, defense is getting old, QB play has been terrible. Sims gets ONLY gets a 2 yr contract. Bucs bite the bullett and take Gaines Adams.

5. ARIZONA - With Leonard Davis most likely headed out of town, Cards need to protect Matt & Edge and take: Joe Thomas

6. WASHINGTON - weakest link is pass defense and putting pressure on the QB. Skins take: Glenn Dorsey

7. MINNESOTA - Johnson is getting old and was benched. Vikes need to find the answer at QB and take Brady Quinn

8. HOUSTON - Looking for the answer at QB, Texans trade the #8 pick and David Carr to the Atlanta Falcons for: Matt Schaub.

Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak should be fired on the spot if they ever traded a high first round pick for Matt Schaub.

Everyone should be fired if that happens, plus McNair should be forced to sell the team to someone who won't let that bonehead move happen.

Thanks for giving me nightmares til April.

#1-7 I gave some thought to. I could have been boring and said a DB or RB for Houston. Why be boring. First, let me go on record, I am not an advocate of drafting a QB, pure and simple, but if you told me the Texans are taking a QB with the first pick....Matt Schaub would be the best available QB out there and the Texans would have to give their #1 for him. There are several reasons this won't happen.

1. Atlanta will not want 2 top 10s, to expensive.
2. " would not want Carr's inflated salary.

Nothing personal, but that is about the most idiotic idea for the Texans offseason that I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them already. Detroit also won't take Peterson, they are last in the league in rushing because of their system, not because of a lack of talent at RB. Peterson doesn't fit their system especially well and they have much more pressing needs. I also don't see Minnesota taking Brady Quinn after using a 2nd rounder on Tavaris Jackson last year.

AP would fit their (Martz) system the way Marshall Faulk fit the (Martz)system in St. Louis.

Peterson and Faulk are two completely different kinds of RBs. Kevin Jones is a very good fit for their system assuming he comes back healthy for the start of the year. Larry Johnson is probably the closest NFL comparison to Adrian Peterson, and Detroit has a lot of other problems to fill. This partial mock is just crazy, hopefully it was just meant to stir the pot and not as a serious suggestion.

What if the Texans pass on Vince Young?

Everyone should be fired if that happens, plus McNair should be forced to sell the team to someone who won't let that bonehead move happen.

If we can get 1 million fans to put $1,000 together..we can take Texans off McNair's hands. :marionaner: :tease:

What is your plan on getting a consensus out of the 1 million new owners?
You got 30 different opinions from 50 message board users. :)

the only way this happens is if we re-hire Charley Casserly before the draft.

LOL, well Texian you keep on thinking. that's what you're good at. The only thing in MHO that would be worse is after picking Matt , they send the second for Micheal Turner. Gotta have a little patience there Texian. Before they go out and get the pretty QB, they got to have more elite big uglies.
I think Farve cost Green Bay a two not a one. And...when they did that deal, Farve was far from a finished prospect. And the player Atlanta got in the Farve deal ? Lot of tallent you're throwing away with that move. If anything I think with what Richard Smith said yesterday, they'll be looking to move down and getting more picks. Not choosing one or two pieces for a SB run.

FYI there ttp, I am not an advocate of drafting or trading for a QB. I threw Schaub in there to get a rise from a few, it worked. Now that Charles Johnson has come out and Jamaal Anderson is thinking about it, this makes the #8 pick all the more interesting. Kubiak says a top priority is getting a pass rush from the front four.

Neither one of those two are worth top 10.

Adams is the only D-linemen worth top 10.

believe it or not, Anderson was a WR in high school. he actually broke his HS teams record for receiving yards (formerly held by the great TE Keith Jackson). He is tall 6'6" and very athletic. An interesting note is that he is being coaced by the same defensive coordinator that coached Mario Williams and that great D line and NC State, Reggie Herring.

as an Ark fan, I'm hoping he comes back. I think you will see his stock rise a great deal until the draft and it wouldnt suprise me to see him go in the top 15.

I agree with you Trench, Charles and Anderson were 1 man wrecking crews in their bowl games. Moses is currently projected as a early RD 1 pick and Johnson is a better player. I might like Anderson better than those 2.

Agreed:The fine DTs have been far and few between the last few drafts. The last great one that I know of is Tommy Harris of Chicago. One of Vinny's guys that year BTW. They get a glut of first day tallent on the board, they'll be a run on them. One of the reasons I'm high on Brach is that I think TJ will function better if he is snadwiched between some tallent. They must elivate
the interior play. They gotta get some heat on third and long.
