My comments to NFL Network

'Prime Time' dissed the Texans badly tonight on NFL Network. No, he didnt just tear into them. He did something more insulting to me.

When Rich Eison started to talk about the game between the Texans and the Browns, his comments were "Why are we even talking about them". Rich mentioned he wanted to be through. Deion responded 'They are so boring, wake me up when you are done'. Then during the entire 1 minute they talked about the game showing highlights, Rich was trying to get a comment out of Deion about the Texans. He responded with grunts and sighs. No comments until they Rich finished up, then said 'Good, your done, moving on' effectively.

I wrte this at the NFL Network site. It probably wont help but here ya go.

To whom this may concern,

I wish to voice my displeasure at the NFL Access coverage on New Years Eve/Day. The item of concern was "Prime Times' disrespectful additude and remarks concerning the teams of the 'Houston Texans' and the 'Cleveland Browns'. Making comments of 'Wake me up' and 'They are boring, why are we showing them' are outragous. It gives me little reason to watch NFL Network when our team, (me a Houston Texans fan) hear every 5 minutes about we were foolish for passing on Vincent Young and Reggie Bush, now are being downright insulted to the team and fan who look to you for coverage and information. This concerns me greatly that you will not give just due coverage to a team that isnt doing so well.

Note: The Texans finished 6 and 10, and even the Oakland Raiders got much more respect (which finished 2 - 14) during the segment then the Texans did.

Here's the thing,
The Prime Time lineup are there for 'Color Commentary'. They bad-mouth teams and players whom they dislike, and worship those whom they think are great. Yes, it seems like it was uncalled for, however, the Houston Texans as a whole are completely uncalled for. I'm sure there are times when all of us shout at the TV and call DC and Texans names that I wouldn't repeat infront of children. The difference is, is that the Prime Time crew get to do in on National TV. What should get you mad is not that the Prime Time spokesholes made the comments, but that the Houston Texans actually gave them something negative to say.

any time you write to NFL network, you need to remind them that deon sanders would be afraid to tackle a girl scout.

The Texas-Browns game was the worst matchup of the weekend - two teams with 9 combined wins.

The Texans offense was extremely painful to watch, aside from their ration of one good drive per game. The defense came through while being on the field 75% of the game. The Browns were a comedy of errors.

They deserved the treatment they received during the recap. I chuckled when I saw it because sadly, I had to agree with them. Did I say our offense (specifically the passing game or lack thereof) sucks?

The headline of the game summary on NFL.com last night read "Ugly Texans beat Uglier Browns." That accurately wrapped up my post game comments to my friends and family as we exited the stadium yesterday. I'm happy the Texans won but I'm not giddy over 6-10 and what I saw on the field yesterday on the offensive side.

As far as Deion, I think he found his niche. I was totally impressed with the guy when they rushed him and Marshall Faulk into relief duty as game analysts to replace Dick Vermeil (laryngitis) during one of their broadcasts last week. Faulk needs to stick with running the ball. I think Eisen and Adam Schefter (Suzy Kolber's twin - separated at birth) do a great job.

ugly game or not (it was ugly), i for one would would prefer equal treatment. the chargers & ravens get zero air-time unless LT breaks a record while the cowboys and giants get their own lifetime miniseries staring larry hagman, terrell owens, & dick clark 3 times a week on every sports channel. deon "i cant tackle pudding" sanders shouldnt be talking down on any teams.

This is sports and it works like the free enterprise system.....you aren't going to get equal unless can force your market (greater NFL fan base) to want to watch you....i.e. win more and put out a better product. Talent and a good product will create the equality you seek. I saw two Mickey Mouse passing offenses out there yesterday. I have not seen many pro games with both offenses that awful in one game.

That summarizes my thoughts as well. I'll take the W but it isn't particularly one to feel good about. This is one of those games you'd treat in subsequent practice sessions as if it were a loss. I hate to say it but Carr looked bad yesterday, just based on what I saw on the TV cast. I don't understand how he looked pretty good in the pocket against the Colts and then totally blind against the Browns. Other than the excitement of seeing Chris Taylor run and play well, there wasn't anything for me to take from yesterday's game except that we were less inept than the Browns.

This is true and it irritates me in general. I don't expect the Texans to get national love but the Ravens and Chargers were awesome this year and other than an occasional blurb about LT's rushing record, I've heard absolutely zero about them. I didn't see Deion's remarks and while slightly unprofessional to me I can empathize with his position. After all, I don't think I'd want to run commentary on the Browns. The fact that I am already a Texans fan is just about the only thing that keeps me interested through seasons like this.

I was pumped we won but it WAS a boring game. That being said, I can't wait until we completely turn this thing around and start getting respect.

Agreed 100%. If you want to write something complaining to someone, write it to the Texans.

Me, I never liked Deion he's conseeded and don't know when to shut his mouth.

He's always been like that so its no surprise to me at what he said, he knows if the Texans offered him a job on the team he'd take it just because nobody else wants him.:shades:

It really was a pitiful performance by the offense.
I dunno, but if Kubiack really thinks ending with that kind of game (even if its
a W), is worth being a few notchs lower in the Draft order, well whatever
he's the HC.
But once again, his playcalling at times just completely dumbfounded me ?
On one of those early first half series, he threw on first down. That's OK and I liked the change of pace, though I thought he might start out by trying to establish the running game. Then on second down instead of running to make
it 3rd and 4, 5, or 6 so he'd have some maneuverability on third, he passed again ? Then on third and long when he had to pass, they ran the ball and of course they came up way short for the first down and had to kick ?
Sometimes I have no idea what that guys is thinking ?

You only ask your players to do what you think they are capable of doing....we ran truncated offensive game plans under Capers and now Kubiak does it too. We have had one constant this whole time and it is obvious to me we are hiding Carr and hoping he doesn't hurt the team.

The Texans are not going to get respect from the national media until they earn it. You can't lose your way to respect. If it bothers you don't watch it. Why would anything Deion Sanders say bother you? Everybody knows what he is.

That's kinda the point, really. Call the plays people don't expect and you can rip off some big plays. If you look at his Bronco years, the Broncos would run on 3rd and long a higher percentage of the time than any other team in the league. Shanahan still does it today.

But the playcalling in this game had 1 purpose: to find out if Carr had progressed. He was supposedly calling plays to see if Carr could step up and make certain reads and throws. From what I saw, Carr didn't make them.

Then in the 3rd, he put the ball in Taylor's hands for a drive and we marched it down and scored. Then he tried putting it back on Carr's shoulders... and pffft.

nothing frustrated me more than when (in the late 3rd or early 4th qtrs.) Carr seemed to roll out to the left side and slide down for a 2-3 yard loss. no matter what Kubes says, it feels more like he was just trying to gameplan for Carr in the "not to lose" strategy more than the "play to win" strategy even though we were palying the Browns.

I totally agree. The Texans have to force themselves on the commentators! If they're doing that, it means we're winning. If that's happening, we won't even care what they're saying anyway because we ARE winning.

TEXANS 2007
"Let's start buildin' some hurtin bombs!"

Yeah,

I don't know. I've been thinking there's been an 'anti-Houston lobby' since the days of the Oilers in the league. In week 16, I was really proud of the team beating the Colts, but instead of complimenting us for winning, one of the hosts on another show on NFL network criticized Kubiak for playing Ron Dayne, "when Kube could have been seeing what future they (Houston) had at RB". Obviously Houston messed up his fantasy plans, but still.. can people stop 'seagulling' us?

It doesn't help that I'm here in Austin and all the media got swept up in 'Vince Fever'. The Texans ended up a footnote 6 pages into the sports section in the win against the Colts, while Vince was all over the front page with the Cowboys (who hadn't even played) against the Eagles. The local TV channel has all but abandoned the Texans for the Titans because of Vince Young which is a shame, but we all know that they aren't in it for loyalties anyway. I complained to the paper and the local TV station but didn't get a response. Go figure...

A question to all:
How are the Networks going to cover the Houston Texans when WE BECOME THE SAINTS of the 2007 football season? Call me a Homer but I feel we now have the Coach, and the core players to build the team around. Mario,DeMeco and D-Rob. on Def. add two to three players and we have a Killer DEF. Pitts, Spencer, Winston, Daniels, AJ, Taylor?, Dayne?, and Lundy? add a couple of player here and Off. is what Coach K wants a run/ball controlling style team. I'm sorry if I'm to much of a Homer for some but I still feel our team is on the verge of a break-out season, thats going to shock every network and 31 other teams in the NFL.

The NFL Network is owned by the National Football League. Why on earth would they want one of their employees (deion) denegrading the product (Texans vs Browns)?

Nothing good to say Deion?....Keep your pie hole shut!

No offense but as an unbiased 3rd party, I didn't even want to see the Texans/Browns highlights. When they showed it on 'football night in america' i was just thinking to myself 'ok get on to the next game'

no disrespect, just the only people who cared were texans and browns fans

If they weren't brainless twits, they could of mentioned DeMeco or AJ.

But then again, they were probably among those that were booing when Carr took a knee twice at the end of the game instead of trying to run up the score.

The Texans will "earn" some respect....but won't get it.
Houston sports teams and athletes NEVER get the respect they deserve. Never have, probably never will (at least not from national media)IMO.

As for Pimp-wannabe Sanders......... "grunts and sighs. No comment.......HuH...'Good, your done, moving on' effectively".

But that is the point.. Not trying to be mean, but i felt the same way about the Titans highlights. I wasnt even interested. But that doesnt mean they shouldnt cover it respectifully.

thats is really bad that they would do that. I have been trying to watch the NFl network today to find it, but i cant seem to catch it. Pretty pathetic of Deon. O well, we will see who gets the last "grunt" next year. To the titan fan, i was interested in watching the Titans highlights just to see how bad Vince did

the thing about running the draws & screens on 3rd & long, is that it only works when you utilize the cannon of an arm that Jay Cutler possesses... that David Carr possesses. Just like the run sets up the pass..... the pass sets up the run.

But Carr's short passing game kills the running game.

But I agree completely with your assessment of our playcalling.

yep.. when im watching highlights I dont really care about any team but the Texans. They are my team.

Many fans feel the same way, so dissing a team like that just isnt cool. He may not care, but thousands of others do.

Course, im not surprised.. "prime time" has always been 75% arrogance, 24% showboat, and 1% respect. He only respects people that share his affinity for loving themselves too much. If anyone is gonna be a childish, disrespectful little ****, hes the guy.

I prefer the NFL Network when Jamie Dukes and (insert name here) replace Prime Time and Marshall Faulk.

On a side note, the breaking news on ESPNEWS when I tuned in today was about Texas Tech's Knight record instead of Darrent Williams' death.

The NFL Network....... while it is media, it is supposed to be a channel dedicated to the NFL. There are sooooooooo many stories they can go over that we'd actually get better more indepth understanding of the game, of our teams, of the NFL than you could get from watching ESPN.

right now, it's just an alternative.

Instead of seeing the same post game show, or pregame show re-aired a thousand times over, I'd think they could have real shows breaking down the ins & outs of each team. They've got coaches like Jim Mora Sr. & Mooch who could break down game film much better than Merrill & Jaws..... or at least should be able to.... as coaches, they should also be able to show us how a series of plays works together to allow a team to impose it's will on another.

Show us why this LT is better than that LT, or why the LG is a less prestigious position.

I think the NFL Network should be able to take the time and go over the Cleveland Brown games, the Texans games, the Detroit games.... & show us the weaknesses of these teams. What could be fixed by coaching....... what needs a shot of talent...... etc.... etc....

the NFL network should be much more than ESPN2.

They used to do that last year, but I haven't seen the show this year. Not even Coach Speak. All I see on the programming is Total Access and NFL Replay, basically.

I remember when LT was being named among NFL great running backs two weeks ago, they mentioned Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, and Emmitt Smith. Michael Irvin didn't even mention the great Earl Campbell. Oilers get no respect.

yep, I was thinking the same thing....
Then again its Michael Irvin. All he knows is Dallas Cowboys and trying to hide his drug paraphernalia...

Two big problems from the NFL Network - all the disrespect to Houston from Sanders, on top of the fact that the NFL Network already disrespected Houston by not giving us the "Freeplay" on cable that everyone else got. We missed a lot of programming (Texas Bowl, Insight Bowl, & I think 2 NFL games) because of their issues with Comcast.

Michael Irvin is employed because of his ability to get exclusive interviews. Otherwise, he would've been fired a long time ago.

Primetime must love TO then.

Didn't Jim Brown once say if he had to build a team around a RB he would start with Earl Campbell?

Actually, as great as Earl was, his career was pretty short compared to others. He ran hard and got run down quick. He is never in the category as those others.

As for Irvin, I like him on the networks. He is a loudmouth but I won't fault the guy for trying to turn things around. He is better than some of the others that offer nothing but coach speak.

I agree.

I thought that I was the only one. As for Deion, I saw the highlights when I got in from church early this morning, and again this afternoon. Given his personality, I thought it was funny. He is an equal opportunity critic if you're bad. YES, I would have thought the same thing if he had made the comments about the Cowboys/Eagles game, sand I wouldn't have been surprised or offended, simply because it was the truth. I know that I spent far too much time yesterday watching the scoreboard updates from the other games rather than what was happening on the field.

Well... That is just what they are. The Texans are a very boring team to watch. The team has no face, which could have been avoided if they did the right thing in last years draft. Until they make changes with the QB, they will continue to display nothing but bad football at its worst and we will continue to get the noon Sunday games with not 3PM or prime time games. Nobody wants to watch it and they will never make the playoffs. As a Texans fan, this is very frustrating, but it is the cold hard truth.

On a segment with Primetime and Mooch just now on the NFL network....Prime said that the texans were his team on the rise after how they finished up the year, beating the Colts, and the Jags twice....

I was explaining this to my step dad at the game. I was thinking, as bad as Capers seemed to be in all...maybe it was Carr's inability to do certain things that led to the elementary offense we had. I pointed out several similiarities and people around me couldn't help but overhear me and agree.

It's promising that we win games IN SPITE of Carr.

I missed that. I think the Texans defense is on the rise. If we can get another corner and middle D-lineman to help mario keep from getting double teamed so much, I think they will have a reputable defense.

Needless to say, our offense is pathetic. The Texans are going to have to be aggresive in the free agent market to help fill some of these holes and hopefully have a good draft to help fill in as many remaining holes as popssible. Here are a few unrestricted free agents the Texans should have high on the list.

Offensive Line
Leonard Davis UFA Arizona Cardinals
Mike Gandy, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Eric Steinbach, UFA, Bengals
Dwayne Carswell, UFA, Denver Broncos

Defensive LB
Lance Briggs, UFA, Chicago Bears
Adalius Thomas, UFA, Baltimore Ravens

Defensive Secondary
Nate Clements, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Asante Samuel UFA New England Patriots
Ken Hamlin, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Roc Alexander, RFA, Denver Broncos

About NFL Network: What's the point in watching this channel if they do not have any shows that breakdown football (somewhat like Tkys was saying)?

Most of the time when I turn to a channel where they have a booth with 4 or so guys talking about their predictions and what they think I turn it immediately almost as fast as when Rome is Burning comes on (I swear there is an alarm in my head I rarely make it past "Whatttss upppppp".) The only show like that I watch is with Boomer and TJ. Atleast ESPN isn't stupid enough to get rid of, or split these guys up.

I've seen Marshall Faulk and Deion both on shows like that and they are both worse than Michael Irvin IMO (atleast Irvin keeps it real in some respects).

Wasn't Roc Alexander one of the guys we put on our IR list??
