If we put all of our effort into getting Nate Clements via Free Agency, that would solidify the corner position...

Round 1:
With the Texans having a pick between 7 and 12 i think they said; that should be the perfect time to pick up LaRon Landry...I think with this addition and the right coaching and play calls, this secondary should be one of the best in town...

Round 2:
I know alot of yall like Ron Dayne, and yeah he's a good enough back to start and gain dcent yardage on a sub-par team...Since DD is out, and Wali Lundy not being the best numbe 2 back...I know he's had injuries since and hasn't put numbers up like he could but Kenny Irons would help this backfield out to give us a good chance at a really good one-two punch...

Round 3:
With the future of this franchise a question at the quaterback position, i say we take the best QB left on the board...Kevin Kolb...some people want jake Plummer, but i dont think he really is what yall see him as...he has a very solid offensive line in Denver and that could be ey to his success, I think Carr will stay and play out his contract, and with two years of molding Kolb in Kubiaks system, he could be the next Phillip Rivers (Pro-Bowler) to show up in the league...

Round 4:
With issues at the offensive line and with the hopeful return of Charles Spencer, we can try and solidify the offensive line...I dont think this kid would be a franchise tackle, but i think he could do the job until we can actually get our hands on an outstanding tackle...James Marten should be good enough to fill in at Left Tackle, Chester pitts at Left Guard, Mike Flannagan/Drew Hodgdon/Steve McKinney at Center, Erik Winston at Right Guard, and Charles Spencer at Right Tackle...

Round 5:
I thought we had a pretty solid linebacker core this year, I love Demeco Ryans and I liked the play of Shantee Orr, i'm not sold on Morlon Greenwood though...Marcus Bacon a hometown kid, that has worked to become what he has...this kid can play OLB of saftey, I like him at the linebacker spot though, he's a sure tackler and would be great for depth or even be nice as a starter! i think this kid would be s steal in the draft!

Round 6:
With all o fthe injuries that we have had on our defensive line, we need more depth, Jeremy Clark has pretty good size and great mobility and should be able to be put into the rotation sometime during the season...

Round 7:
I was at the Texas Bowl (Rutger vs K-State) and while i was watching Rutgers warm up, Joe Radigan thier punter was amazing! He made first tam all whatever confrence thier in...at warm ups the kis was averaging 65-70 yards on each punt, no doubt, the only flaw i saw during the game is, he is not the kind of guy that will chace down a return man. I thought Chad Stanley was a good punter for a couple of years, but after this year, he made too many mistakes to stay on this team. This kid was amazing!

I honestly think this would be a good draft, i know alot of people on this board dont like Kenny Irons, but i think he could like a Curtis martin, maybe...you know a guy who rushes for 1000 yards evey year in his career until he got injured..let me know what you think!!!
 
I really can't come up with any real justification for passing on a top tackle for the 6th year in a row. Just since the Texans have been in the league, the following tackles have all been taken in the top 20 of the draft:

Mike Williams, BUF
Bryant McKinnie, MIN
Levi Jones, CIN
Jordan Gross, CAR
George Foster, DEN
Robert Gallery, OAK
Shawn Andrews, PHI
Jammal Brown, NO (taken at #13 when we traded out of that spot to get Travis Johnson - OUCH!!)
Alex Barron, STL
D'Brickashaw Ferguson, NYJ

Gallery is probably the only guy there that can be called a flop. I would take any of the rest over the assortment of crap we've had at either of our tackle positions. Pitts may well have been our best left tackle to date and that's not saying a ton. Seth Wand, Victor Riley, Ephraim Salaam .... ugh. At right tackle, the team went out and overpaid for Todd Wade when many football people thought he was overrated. Good tackles don't hit free agency very often. Wiegert has never been good tackle material.

If, for some reason, the team sees fit to pass up a first round tackle for the 6th year in a row, I agree that the secondary should be addressed there. I think I like Leon Hall (Michigan) better than either Landry or Nelson. I think we need a corner first, but I also think he can play both safety and corner. I'm no scout though, so take that FWIW.

Round two and three, to me, should be RB and QB, not necessarily in that order. If Russell from LSU slips to our pick in the second round, I think they'd have to seriously consider him. Likewise, if Kolb grades out this highly, I could see using a second round pick on him. A lot depends on the combine here, but I really think this is where you can get the best bang for your buck, in terms of the QB position. RB can be had here or even later, you really never know. If we didn't take a corner in round one, round two should still have a decent CB prospect and most certainly should have some good safety prospects.

Rounds four and five, grab a linebacker and maybe a run-stuffing DT. I think this team could really be fine with Mario and Babin at ends if Weaver is paired with a run-stuffing DT inside. Alternately, keep Weaver outside and have Babin as a situational rusher. Either way, improved interior play will help the edge guys.

Rounds six and seven are a crapshoot anyway, so just go ahead and grab a total steal, like Marques Colston was for the Saints ;)
 
joe thomas will most likely be gone, so it'd be pretty dumb to draft a tackle just to do it, since there isn't another prospect out there worthy of a top 15 pick.
 
There just isn't an OT except Joe Thomas worth a top 10 pick. If he's gone, I don't see how it would be a good move to go OT.

I would say that Mike Williams, taken #4 overall, was a mega flop. Still, I see and agree with your point. If the Texans want a tackle, and I think they need one especially considering Spencer uncertain status, they really need for Jake Long and/or Sam Baker to reconsider coming out early.
 
Joe Thomas will be gone when we draft and I agree that there is no other OT worth that high of a draft pick. The 5th round pick for Moulds was in last years draft not this year so we still have that one. I like the idea of Landry, but am also partial to the idea of trading down a few spots in the 1st round and getting some more draft picks. We have a lot of needs for starters and still need some quality depth. I think if we trade down a couple of spots we could possibly still get Landry and if not him Nelson from Florida should still be on the board.

Sam Baker, maybe. Jake Long is another Levi Brown waiting to happen ...
 
I don't understand all the negativity towards Jake Long, he is a higher graded OT prospect than Andrew Whitworth (Bengals) or Marcus McNeill (Chargers) both starting LT's for winning teams as rookies. this type of thinking is a reason why the Texans are....well the :texflag:
 
first of all, jake long is returning to michigan, so it's a moot point really. secondly, jake long is big and sluggish and has pretty awful technique, he's basically just like jon scott from texas last year. too much emphasis on strength and not enough on technique and feet and playing the game and not the man. he's a 2nd rounder (at least) to me if he were to come out.
 
Yeah well that is what I was posting about McNeil and Brown in back to back off seasons. They worked out. I have not seen in two seasons a OLT prospect on the BC team. But I've been wrong befor.

we can discuss mechanics/technique, strength, footwork etc. etc. etc. (watch the Rose Bowl thats all I ask) but the same was said about McNeill/Whitworth and all they've done is produce @ the next level. McNeill taken middle of the 2nd rd (50th) & Whitworth near the end of the 2nd rd (55th) seems like excellent value to me if you can get your starting LT mid to late 2nd rd. but then your the "draft expert" :snobord:
 
mcneill fell to the 2nd because of a medical issue with his spinal cord. i don't think anyone doubted his ability, but the draft is about long term value, and it's hard to see how mcneill will be down the road. whitworth fell because he's not really that good, and i'm still not impressed with him really.
 
I agree. Our draft decision totally revolves around the signing of nate clements or asanti samuel. If we don't get one of those guys...we have to draft CB in 1st or 2nd round. If we do get them. our secondary will be awesome with landry/nelson. I wouln't mind DTor LB in 2nd round either. amobie akoye or buster davis. Or like you said russel if he declares prob. wont fall. Troy Smith probably wont fall to 2nd. but woud be great. kolb in 3rd my be way to go.
