5 rounds of thinking out loud

I'm going to say we have pick #9 and for ease, can't find a trading partner.

I'm going to say we make a hard push for, and land, (with Moulds influence) Nate Clements in FA. I'll say that he is our only notable FA signing and all other needs are yet to be addressed.

Second option for said pick in BLUE

1. Landry
Peterson
2. Okoye
Meachem
3. Grubbs
Mebane
4. Kailh
Dan Conor
5. Manuel Wright
Crowder

I am on board with Landry.

Will Cason or Regis be there at 2nd RD picks #38-41? or are we looking at Terell Brown or Aaron Ross?

3rd Rd - Kyle Shotwell, LB Cal Poly or Dan Bazuin DE Cent Michigan.

with the weak link in the defense plugged go RDs 4-7 with O.

subject to change, many times

Landry was the hardest pick for me to put down, but I feel Kubiak will go with the conservative pick in Landry over the potentially better and still very solid Nelson.

After their workouts, neither Cason nor Revis will be there in the second round. Brown should go before Ross, and neither should go before 3rd round.

Shotwell is an undersized, pass-rushing LB. Bazuin is a 3-4 OLB at best.

Shotwell is 6'1" 230 (avg size) and Bazuin is 6'3" 272 (pretty big for a OLB).
Bazuin reminds of Matt Roth.

Brown and Ross are probably 3rd rounders but 1 of the top six could fall to picks #38-41. Hall, McCauley, Bennett, Hughes, Cason, Regis.

I would be happy with either Landry or Nelson.

Cherry picking from http://www.gbnreport.com/2007top100.html using the #8 pick, and trading down to #18 for a extra 2nd round pick.

Round 1: Justin Blalock - OG, 6-4, 330, Texas
Round 2: Michael Griffen - FS, 6-0, 205, Texas
Round 2: Daymeion Hughes - CB, 6-2, 190, California
Round 3: Tim Duckworth - OG, 6-3, 310, Auburn
Round 4: SEC Linebacker.

Assuming we still pick #9 overall.
No trades.
We land Clements in FA still in this version

1. Reggie Nelson
2. Buster Davis
3. Grubbs
4. Mebane
5. Kailh

1-Landry FS
2-BPA (LB,OT,RB,CB)
3-Kareem Brown/Justin Harrell DT

In round 2, I'm hoping Rufus Alexander is there. Gives Demeco a partner to run around the field with. The crop of OT's is weak this year, but if Brown or Blalock falls, jump on them. Tony Hunt would be the best RB available over Kenny Irons in the 2nd. Fits our system and has better speed than Dayne but is still a bruiser that can also catch the ball. Several CB's should be available, although I'm not high on alot of them.

Kareem Brown from Miami is a big DT at 6'5 315lbs with ability to get into the backfield. A high upside pass rush DT to play alongside Mario. Has motivational problems at times, but for a 3rd rounder, I'm willing to take that risk. Justin Harrell only drops because of the injury he sustained. A blown bicep in September, should be 100% by April.

How amazing would that be. I was thinking that yesterday.

Another option
1. Alan Branch
2. Buster Davis
3. Grubbs
4. L Peters FS Hawaii

Stick the OLT propect or The wake forest FS in the forth, and I'm on board. Think one of the good LB prospects will make the fall into the third round. And..I know their are folks who are sold on Davis, but in my book there's not a lot of difference between them. All highly productive. All great prospects. I like sticking the young lion next to Mario to kill the double teams. But...Hollywood John McClain is reporting he has a source that it will NOT be a defensive guy. Go figgure ?

I don't think Peterson will be available at 9

I am as big a Longhorn homer as anyone but based on this year's play, I can't see drafting any of the Texas DB's. I was NOT impressed. Maybe it was the scheme, but whatever, the Texas pass defense this year was horrible and I wouldn't want any of the players who were associated with it

Landry is a good pick at 9 but I think it depends on what OTs are available.

Let's say the Texans pass on a DB in RD 1. I would be very happy to get Michael Griffin with the 2nd pick. I like Brown as well but I doubt he would be there in the 3rd RD. He was hampered by injuries and the law this year.

God dang, the more I look at this, the more I like it.

We get the most athletic, playmaking FS in the draft with tons of upside. Davis is my only pick I think may change. Maybe Dan Conor or Rufus Alexander. Grubbs is the best OG and I like Auburn OLinemen. Mebane is my sleeper DT who can really play well. High motor and good ability at a big school. Take pressure off Mario with his penatrating ability. Kailh is the 2nd best C in the draft IMO, and fits our system very well. Maybe Dan Mosez if he is gone.

I like this draft.

Who else likes this draft?

If Sam Baker declares, what do you think the chances are he falls to round 2?

50/50.

I see him as a Winston Justice clone. Super athletic. I have not seen him projected higher than 15 though, and that is only a few times. Justice was considered a top 15 lock and snuck into many top 10's.

I've never been impressed with the scheme that Texas runs, but it is pretty hard to argue Texas' DBs track record. (Jammer, Vasher, and Huff). If Brown or Ross are there in the 3rd, it would be hard not to take them.

Hard to pick this apart. I like Landry alot, he will help the whole defense, plays a lot like Ronnie Lott did in college.

Like Okoye, but he seems to rising as we get closer to the draft. Grubbs seems to fit the mold of quick lineman Kubiak likes, former TE.

Kalil is a little lite, and should be gone, but could drop. Conner is a 1st day guy IMO.

Who is Manuel Wright? I am coming up blank on this one.

I like the the kid from Hawaii, Leonard Peters, here if he runs well, you could end up replacing Earl with him. At any rate you would have good young depth at safety. And you said we sign Clements to go with Robinson and that moves Faggins to the nickle. Not a bad secondary.

Mauling, run blocking OG from TT who can pass block as well. Uber strong at POA.

I thought so, Manny Wright is the Dolphins DT from USC. Manuel Ramirez is the big mauling guard at Tech. Plus is is being projected as a 1st day guy. I mess up guys names all the time.

haha, yeah. Thanks for catching that. I don't see him as a 1st day guy. Haiwii also has a good OG prospect. Auburn has two. TT has one. UT has one, but is not worth where he will get drafted. Tenn has Sears.

i love arron sears as a prospect.

What do you like about him Kats ? I haven't seen Tennesee at all this year. Just read the write ups on him. Is he a good enough prospect that you would bypass all the good DB and LB prospects sure to be on the board at our second pick ? I don't think he'll be there in the third do you ?

the thing about sears is that he's pretty fundamentally sound. he's got good feet. the problem is that you'll catch him bending at the waist waay too much. if that can be corrected, he'd be a fine tackle. otherwise, move him inside..

other names to think about on the line:

Kurt Quarterman
Gosder Cherilus
Marshall Yanda
Cory Niblock

i won't really delve into their abilities in the zone or not, but those are some good solid sleepers.

just wondering what makes you say that??? was mario the conservative pick last year?:shades:

anyway we wont land clements- stop the madness!!:pigfly:
