Just some questions?

I have too many questions and wanted to keep the threads to a minimum. I thought these might be good topic for discussion:

What if we keep Carr and get Plummer and/or a drafted QB and put the starting QB up for grabs.

If we win this week, we may pick around #9. Assuming AP and Joe Thomas are gone would you be upset with picking Marshawn Lynch, the DT from Michigan, or in the unlikeliness that he should drop this far Gaines Adams?

With Owen Daniels down, how come we are not seeing Bennie Joppru? Seems like someone may be gone next year.

And I wish they would interview us about beating the Colts instead of interviewing Manning about losing before us.

Bennie Joppru was already cut. I think he plays for the SeaHawks.

Alan Branch is one of my favorite players in this draft I would love it if we picked him.

Wow where have I been man? I totally missed that. BTW thanks Casserly, Witten has made a couple of Pro Bowls.

Alan Branch is one of my favorite players in this draft I would love it if we picked him.

I do like him also. I've always kind of felt that our lack of pass rush has been from our lack of inside players either because of our 3-4 previously or due to the injuries and lack of talent in the middle on our 4-3 scheme. My only problem is I want to fix the offense first so I'm kind of torn.

my take on the qb situation is this...

i have this feeling that bob mcnair is going to continue to be as loyal as he can be to carr. that is why i dont think we will straight up dump carr. i see mcnair (under kubiaks influence) bringing in plummer. if mcnair is going to make a qb change, he would rather see someone else take it from carr. if not plummer, then i would say a kevin kolb perhaps.

on the other issues about the draft, i think that drafting a disruptive DT should be priority 1 for this team, not o-line. apart from unfortunate injuries to the line, the guys we have out there are already the future of this line (winston, hogdon, weary, flanagan, pitts, etc) spencer will hopefully be back, as will wiegert. i believe that a disruptive DT lined up next to mario will produce the pass rush we have been seeking. we have played a stellar run defense for much of the yr with guys like maddox and thomas johnson playing the nose tackles, but they do nothing in pass rush and they dont require double teams. if you get a guy who will require a double team, mario williams will only have his job a little bit easier.

the second thing we need to worry about is CB. we need a shutdown corner, a young one, not some 32 yr old vet.

my logic is that you should stack up on defense before anything else, because that is what wins championships. just ask the 2000 ravens. shore up the defense so that your offense can perhaps get more drives. the offensive line depth can probably be touched on, but nothing within the first 2 rounds of the draft.

Although I can see Plummer coming to Houston because of the Denver connection, I think that he may be a bit too expensive considering the fact that he is not guaranteed the starting job. We may end up keeping Rosenfels and a possible draftee, and letting the three compete.

Also, we may see Plummer stay on a bit more in Denver, while he may not be the BEST QB around, he's very familiar with the system and could prove to be a very valuable backup in Denver, in case #1 goes down.

Speculation really, but if Plummer ends up in Houston in a few months, I would not be at all surprised :)

of the draft.

So are you saying you see the same thing too. David still in Houston while Plummer comes to be the back up perhaps win the starting QB job?

While I see and agree with your overall point about the defense, one of the names you suggested on the oline is one reason why I would go Oline - That's Zach Weigert. Weigert has been solid but only while he has played... every season that we've had him, he misses like 5 games or more. I think an OL would provide that quality depth during a rookie season while he gets a chance to groom, just like any QB we draft. Besides if you are going to commit to Carr again it might not hurt to start correcting what has been hurting us for years.

even without wiegert, winston is ready. our line with wiegert already looks decent with spencer, pitts, flanagan, weary, winston. the o-line is not as bad as some people make it out to be.

Are we watching the same oline. They are pretty good in run blocking but pass blocking is very shaky. We can look at the Jets when it comes putting the oline first they draft two olineman and they are making a playoff run and yes it is the line Chad does not have a big arm but has time to sit back and throw plus they lost their starting running back. I do not put any faith in Hodge the center he has looked bad this year and I just do not see him turning the corner like Winston. I do like Winston and Spencer and with all the talk about Spencer's leg if Houston does not go after a tackle in the first couple of picks I think that will answer our question about his leg.

I agree we do need to get Mario help on the line he can not do it his self he gets doubled up which should free up someone but the rest seem to get tied up one on one so he needs help there. The secondary is shaky also and in my mind is what we should look at first DROB needs help and a lot of it because these guys have not stepped up it could be because the line not getting pressure on the qb but they still should be able to step up regardless.
Rb I think we have enough to get the job done if DD comes back and IF the line can run block like they have been. At qb DC is a lock if he plays this week like he did against the Colts I would agree if Kevin Kolb is there in 4th we draft him I like his arm very strong and loves to show it. Plummer is not the answer he is not as mobile as DC and DC might fumble when the pocket fails but Plummer throws ints then it falls apart so no no no. All in all I can not wait and see what they do in the draft if it is anything like this last one we will be in goo shape.

CC Brown is now the weakest link on the field IMO on either side of the ball. Therefore; from where we will probably be drafting, and who will probably be there when we do, I like taking the best FS in the draft LaRon Landry. The Michigan DT/Branch would be my second choice.

I believe the best immediate help we can get for our team is through getting two free agents in the off season (NE CB/Samuel and Chicago OLB/Briggs). Then we move Faggins to Nickel and/or let him compete at FS.

The above D would start 2 of the best CB's in the league, 2 of the best LB's in the league, one of the best DE's in the league with good depth at the other DE spot (Peek, Babin, Weaver), average DT depth, a solid run stopper SS (Earl) and one rookie FS (albeit a very talented ball hawking one).

Then with our 2nd and 3rd pick, we could go OL again.

Does anyone know anything about our current Third-QB? With Sage Rosenfels on IR - our line up is now:

1) David Carr
2) Bradlee Van Pelt
3) Quinton Porter - 6 5" - 233 Lbs - out of Boston College

Who is this Porter guy?

I read something about him posted on a blog by the Texans Chick, but can't really remember what it said.

Could he be an option instead of bringing in a Free Agent QB or using a Draft Pick on a QB and instead focus on our O-Line/D-Line / CB / RB....?

Dude, Weigert was pathetic earlier in the year. I think you are right about him in previous seasons but this year he was just pitiful out there on the right side. He's a guard playing tackle and we're much better right now with Winston (warts and all) than we were with Weigert in there.

We could use more help on the line, no doubt about

I hear ya, it's just that @ #9 you kind of think you reach with a lineman. D'Brick and the other guy the Jets took were worth it but I don't see anyone else that way.

As far as sticking with Porter you have to ask yourself if he is better than any of the current prospects and I have to say no.

These were my thoughts exactly! Nate Clements or Asante Samuel with Samuel being more likely. Time to fill up the salary cap room and I believe the cap room gets much larger for everyone next year.

Yeah, I'd prefer Samuel as well but at this point my primary concern is at the FS spot, I watched some more youtube on Landry, Revis & Hughes today & Landry is looking like he could be a beast back there flying to the ball. he seems to have great anticipatory skills & looks extremely fast, but we'll have to wait on those combine numbers for that. He could make those WR's think twice about catching the ball that's for sure.

I agree. There are some interesting SS's out there but Landry is the FS that looks the best to me in this draft so far. IMO, we are very close to fielding a top "10" D next year and that will win you a bunch of games with an old school run the ball offense.

Some might prefer the vertical game of the Colts etc... but I would much rather see the team built around a smash mouth, snot bubble producing D like the Ravens, Bears etc...

I mostly agree with the bolded (maybe not top 10 but maybe top 15 as opposed to where we are now if we draft Landry & get another DT/LB). Defense wins championships, & that's all that needs to be said about that & The Defense also progressed enormously this year despite all the injuries we had.

I thought Porter looked really good in Preseason, but since he was thrid stringin it up out there who knows for sure how good he can be. But with that being said he looked very calm and collected out there in preseason. He could be a diamond in the rough, but i imagine he is not since Kubes quickly went and got someone from outside the Organization after Sage went down.

I agree with that. Wiegert, and I like the guy, proved this year he needs to be on the inside. I'm going to be absolutly out of my mind in April when Joe Thomas goes off the board. Oh well. :tease:

Props .one guy gets it. I still say, for not knowing untill March if the guy can run...you're putting a lot of chips on that broken leg. Easy to stick him out there on the left wing. I'll believe it when I see it.
