Speaking of QB.

With all the talk about bringing in a vet to challenge DC for the job I don't think I have heard anyone mention Garcia. He thought about coming here last year so is he a option. I would take him over Plummer no question, this is not a bash Carr thread so please control yourselves just would like you alls opinion if they do go after a vet and with Gracia being a UFA what do you all think?

I don't think it solves the 3-4-5 year problem... but is a decent 1-2 year solution. Having him here only really makes sense to me if the money is right, and we have a person in line to succeed.

ill be happy with Garcia right now hes leading the Eagles to the Playoffs but we just got to hope that the Eagles wont sign hime for next year and beond

Just remember that the guy was terrible with the Lions and Browns. The Eagles on the other hand, have the supporting cast and a much better team, hence the better performance. It's not a coincidence that backups always perform well when McNabb goes down. Remember Koy Detmer, AJ Feeley, etc. I would be wary.

I think he will test the market for a team were he has a chance to be a starter and the Eagles is not the place.

So if they pick up a vet who would you take Plummer or Garcia?

So lets assume a Vet does come in. What happens if David gets beat of the starting job. Now our number one draft pick is on the bench holding a clip board. What does that do to his trade value? Not many trades are mde in the NFL as it is. Much less for a backup QB making tons of money. Grant it I am sure there are teams out there who would still want David, but I do not think we would get the max trade value for him if he is on the bench. I would say either...

1. Trade him in the off-season.
2. Trade him on draft day for more picks.
3. Draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft and let David play his way out of a job. If he does that then he only have himself to blame.
4. Just cut him if a Vet is brought in. This would hurt (cap wise) but Rosenfels has already shown he can be a backup. Why have 2 on our bench. Expecially at DC price.

Three might have happened this year if Rosenfels would not have gotten injured but that is a whole different discussion.

doesnt trading a player accelerate the unamortized signing bonus just as cutting him does? the only difference I can see is the relief you get by spreading it over 2 years when the player is cut after June 1.

I honestly do not know. I am not as cap-versed as some of you are. But thinking of what you typed logically, that would seem correct.

thats the problem. for the past 3 seasons, mcnabb has had some form of serious injury. if i was the owner of the eagles, im locking garcia up for another 3 yrs, because u never know with mcnabb. he has been very injury prone the last 3 yrs and garcia is playing like a pro-bowl QB.

I can't see the Eagles resigning Garcia. McNabb is entrenched as their QB, and rightfully so. DM is one of the best in the business.

After the way Garcia has played, he will cost way too much to be a backup. I'd love to see the Texans bring him in and let him compete with Sage for the starting job. I have to believe Garcia would win that battle. Remember, he is a 3-time Pro Bowl QB who is playing at that same level this year. The Eagles are a better team than the Texans, but the Texans have a much better receiving corps than the Eagles (though we don't have Brian Westbrook). I think Garcia's poise, leadership and decisionmaking would be a huge upgrade over Carr's, though admittedly, he would only be a short-term solution.

I'm firmly of the view that DC needs to be sent somewhere else in the offseason. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but I have been quite unimpressed with him this year. Tony Romo, a 3rd year undrafted free agent who had never played in a regular season game before this year, is already light years ahead of Carr as a quarterback. And don't tell me it's because Dallas's line is much better than the Texans'. It's NOT!

Carr may have some success as an NFL QB, but I don't think it will be here. I think he has lost the confidence of a lot of his teammates, including Dunta Robinson and others who won't speak out. I hope Kubiak and crew decide to go in another direction at QB, but will trust and support their decision either way.

I think it's about more than just the supporting casts in Detroit and Cleveland. Garcia is a great QB in a West Coast type offense and neither the Browns nor Lions were running a West Coast offense. I think that Garcia would do very, very good here in this offense with these weapons. I would love for Garcia to come here for a couple of years while Kubiak grooms a younger QB.

I just don't think that's a very likely scenario. The Eagles are going to throw a lot of money at him to stay and be a backup. And he's also really improved his stock and there are probably going to be teams that will offer him a starting job straight up. With the Texans, he'll probably (PROBABLY*) be given the opportunity to come in and fight for the starting spot.

* If they get rid of Carr, Garcia will probably be offered the job straight out; if it's between Garcia and Sage, then it's probably Garcia's job to lose. If they don't get rid of Carr, then it will be a "come in and compete" scenario.
