Colts/Manning ........:(

Ok some of you say that manning was just running his offense when we played the colts 2 weeks ago right ? Well why was he still throwing the long ball,,,,ok for that matter why was still in the game. I only bring this up because i noticed that today against the Lions he was out of the game the whole fourth quarter, and the colts back up got time and there was not a big difference in their score today and ours a few weeks ago. Now does that not seem strange ? If ya gonna keep on playing, throwing against one team why wouldnt they do it against other teams ?????

He wants the record and he does not care how he gets it. I still think it should read like this in the record books:

Most TD's in a season
1. Manning - 89*
2. Marino - 48
3. Ect......

* Denotes record was obtained thru extreme and libral use of cheesiness.

yes i know he wants it,,,so whyd he get out of the game in detriot at the end of the third quarter, and play till the final seconds in ours ??? Thats what i'm asking !

Because he wants to try (yes I said try) to break the record in Houston. So we need to stuff it up his @ss!

Peyton Manning is not about records. He trully doesn't care what his positive numbers are as long as they're winning. Against the lions they were up big earlier than against us. They took him out with time left in the 3rd quarter yesterday when he was tearing the lions apart faster and worse than he was us. Would you complain if Carr had a chance to break the record, the Texans are a lock for the playoffs, and they're beating the colts by 20 when 10 minutes left in the 4th and he was left in?

Uh....no....

End of 3rd Quarter score (Texans at Indy) 42-7
End of 3rd Quarter score (Indy at Detroit) 41-9

He shouldn't have played in the 4th quarter in either game. The difference was, he had 6 TD passes against Detroit by then, but only 5 at that point against us. Dungy may also be figuring out that keeping Manning in late, when the game is not in question, will get his QB killed. More than a few coaches will send in "head-hunters" as a reminder.

Manning is gunning for a record, and it shows. Any b.s. about him not having any say, and just wanting to "win the game" is ridiculous. If you're up by 35 going into the 4th quarter, and you're quick-snapping the ball the exploit the defense for a big pass play, you're no longer playing "just to win".

This is exactly what I was wondering yesterday. I know he was trying to rub it in a little on us. As I say though, in this league what goes around comes around 3 times worse. I never so much wanted to beat that team until after our last game against them.

I think Manning is a prick. There is no need for him to bury teams like he is doing. Especially on against some teams that are already suffering (Texans, Bears). Someone is eventually gonna penetrate that offensvie line and let him have it.

I wasn't sure about Manning coming out of college because I thought he underachieved there with all the hype surrounding him but right now if I had to pick a QB to run an offense I'd take him. Their passing game is as outstanding as it gets.

The Colts would be really scary if they could get their defense up to the offense's standards.

Not to necessarily come to Manning and Colts defense, but some of you are just PO'd that Carr and Texans can't do what Manning/Colts are doing.

Running up the score? Puh-leeze! :violin If we were doing that to the other teams, you'd say, "Hip Hip Hooray! We've finally got the killer instinct". The simple fact is that the Colts are playing some damn fine football right now, and their defense has finally showed up.

This is the NFL. If you you really want to see teams run up the score, watch football on Saturday afternoon.

ok i guess some of do not see what i'm saying or perhaps yall didnt even read the OPENING thread, i was just wondering why he stayed in the whole game against texans and was out by the third quarter yesterday ? Cause there was no major difference in the score, so why didnt he get out while playing us ? Maybe coach dungy saw all the media bad mouthing them for leaving manning in and decided to TRY to look like the nice guy !

Doom Capers said:

Me to man. I'd love it if one of our guys would knock Manning's butt out of our
game with them next month. You don't throw the ball all the way down the field to try score another quick 6 when you're up by 5 touchdowns with only 5 minutes left in the game . Here's what you do if you're a classy QB like a guy named Warren Moon. You're blowing out what is a powerhouse KC defense @ its own field in Arrowhead running the Run-and-shoot. Its late in the 4th quarter and you're within a few yards of breaking the single game record for passing. And you and your coaches take yourself out of the game
when the victory is assured. That's what a classy QB does, what Manning is
doing makes him an A-ho#@

I simply want to see one thing when the Colts come to Houston. I want Capers defense to blitz like there's no tomorrow. I want to see how many times Peyton Manning can go down in a single game. I want to see linebackers blitz, safeties blitz, and cornerbacks blitz. I'd even enjoy watching a waterboy blitz.

Ignore James and cover the recievers as best you can man to man and see if it's possible to beat Manning into a less than super-human performance. The rest should take care of itself. We might still lose of course and we're going to get burned a few times doing it but why not try? It's not like we did much to stop him last time and everything in Indy starts and stops with Manning. Take him out of the game (not literally "take him out of the game" as in hurt him but make him the complete focus of your attack) and see what happens.

Almost everytime Payton & the Dolts have lost, they have been smacked around a bit by phyisical teams ie. the Pats. Punch the recievers and drop Payton on his backside and they come unraveled. Having said that, it's not easy to get to Payton because of the quality O-line and you have to get to him quick.

It'll be very hard to get to Peyton with our defense. Once the defense sells out for the blitz a few times and gets burned bc they can't execute it...you all will be wondering why the DC is still blitzing...

Well, some people might be wondering but I'm not going to. I'm going to be sitting there saying "Keep it up until you get it right! Keep it up until you bury him as deep as he'll go in one of those Reliant stadium grass trays!"

How well can Peyton run the Colts offense with bruises all over his body? We've seen what happens to Carr when things get ugly so make things ugly for Peyton. He's harder to get to than Carr of course but start the game bringing the whole freakin house and see what happens.

So the Colts burn you and get 7, 14, 21, or even 28 points (If they haven't gotten to Peyton by the time the Colts get to 28 points then yeah, the whole excercise has failed) but don't you think the Colts are going to get those TD's anyway? Might as well make them pay for them with a bloody nose and a sore body. I say if you can bust through that line and deck Peyton a few times before they reach 21 points then you've got a chance. A small one indeed but at least a chance. De-rail this thing before it starts rolling over you and pray that our offense can score at least two TD's in the first half and then see what happens.

hmmm i say we just move jamie sharper on the outside of the D-Line, tell him to get a REAL early start ( a offsides penalty) and Drill Manning, it may get him a lil jumpy and than we can do with him as we please. :heh:

Stop and think a moment. Who calls the plays for the Colts? Does Manning call them himself or do the plays come in from the sideline? Duhhhh. The plays come in from the sidelines. Don't blame Manning...blame the coaches who are calling the plays.

oh and i'm sure they have a remote control that controls who manning throws it to as well huh ? Must be wireless i havent seen the cord yet !!!! Plus i've seen him audible to a long route at the end of a BLOWOUT game during the last 2 weeks !

im shocked that you all think manning is so classless, yet you promote intentional injury to him. the colts already have a reputation as a classy team. your team however, has an undetermined reputation. something like that can put a black mark on your players, coaches, and organization.

you say warren moon was so classy because he didnt try to break an nfl record when he could have. do you realize how many times peyton could have broken the single game TD record already, but didnt stay in the game? maybe you also dont know that points against an opponant comes into play as a tiebreaker for the playoffs.

someone made the point that you guys would be happy as hell if Carr and co. were doing this to other teams, and he couldnt be more right.

heres dan the mans stats from his 1984 season

at Washington Redskins 35-17
New England Patriots 28- 7
at Buffalo Bills 21-17
Indianapolis Colts 44- 7
at St. Louis Cardinals 36-28
at Pittsburgh Steelers 31- 7
Houston Oilers 28-10
at New England Patriots 44-24
Buffalo Bills 38- 7
at New York Jets 31-17
Philadelphia Eagles 24-23
at San Diego Chargers(loss)28-34
New York Jets 28-17
Los Angeles Raiders(loss) 34-45
at Indianapolis Colts 35-17
Dallas Cowboys 28-21

so lets start a thread on how big of an azzhole marino is(thats directed to whoever wrote about putting an asterisk next to peytons record).

You can call running plays from the sidelines. Difficult to throw a TD pass when you hand the ball off.

actually peyton gets 3 plays given to him (sometimes 2 passes and 1 run, sometimes 2 runs and 1 pass) he then can audible at the line according to the defense (which houston had stacked the box, thusly manning changed to a pass)

I've got a couple of honest questions for you. How many of those games did Marino have a 3TD or better lead going into the 4th quarter in, and did he stay in late in those games?

The points against common opponents is a valid point, but who exactly are the Colts in competition with on that score? Start projecting who the likely playoff teams are in the AFC and tell me how much "danger" the Colts are in, taking "point differential" against common opponents into the equation.

I'd really like to know the answers, no joke...

This arguement wouldn't be going on if it were an NFC QB doing this. There wouldn't be any complaints if it were someone who didn't play and embarrass the Texans. Instead of complaining about the greatest QB in the game right now. Why don't you complain about the defense allowing him to carve them up and take what he wants...you complain about the coaching and QB enough already...

your point about marino is the point im trying to make. im sure dan wasnt in there throwing all these touchdowns in the 4th quarter, but neither is peyton. he did it one time(to you guys im sorry) and hadnt done it before and hasnt done it since. but the total points tiebreaker is for division teams, like houston (who was in the playoff hunt when they played indy)

Ok...I am about fed up with this "classless" ****. A few points I would like to mention. Yes the Colts won 49-14. Our Offense scored 35 points..which at that time was only 4 more points than their average. The Defense scored the remaining 14 points. People are complaining that we were just trying to run up the score....well when people put 9 in the box..who in there right mind would run into that mess. People are complaining that we left Manning in too long...well I don't hear any people from the Texans asking why was Carr and the first string offense in running a hurry up offense with less than 2 minutes to go in the game down 42-14. That last interception returned by the Colts for a touchdown was Carr's own fault (for what is my opinion, just hurrying up and trying to put points on the board to make the score more respectable on your side). If you didn't want to get beat 49-14....they should have played better. The Texans didn't execute on any side of the ball.

All this talk of hurting Manning is childish. That right there is fan revenge..not player revenge. If you want player revenge..the Texans better go out and execute better the next game. They have no one to blame but themselves. I would never wish injury on any player from any team no matter what. Good luck..and no disrespect.

If Manning was so worried about the record........

He would have played the last 2 games throughout.
NO ONE is getting back to him. He's not going to get hurt.

Heck...he left in the Detroit game with time left in the 3rd quarter.

He left the Bears game and didnt play the whole 4th quarter.....

Sounds like some Texans fans will be upset when he gets the record in front of your little football team!

GO COLTS!

For the record I do not consider Manning to be classless. I consider him to be brutally efficient and nearly unstoppable this season. That's why I completely advocate pressuring the living daylights out of him. I want to see the man hit and hit a lot. I don't want to see the Texans cheap shot him and I don't want to see the Texans draw penalties for stupid things like late hits and helmet to helmet contact. I am not advocating injuring Peyton Manning.

I'm advocating hitting him often and hard. If you recall this game is football of the American variety where players hit one another on a routine basis. It's actually allowed and encouraged (assuming you don't want to get buried 64-0 by the half).

The only teams that seem to ever slow the Colts down (or even, dare I say stop them) are the ones that can get to Manning and give him one of those days that leads to ice packs and smelling salts. I don't want the Texans to get all over him for "payback" or "revenge". That's just stupid. I want the Texans to get all over him to see if they can stop the Colts from hanging another 40 or so points on them.

Surely the Colts fans here can see the sense in rushing a very effective passer or is that out of bounds if the passer happens to wear a horseshoe on his helmet?

During the Texans game......

The texans should have gave up.

They were down by about 40 points and they were still jamming the line.

What else could the Colts do but....PASS!

GO COLTS.......

If you think MAnning should have gave up...... I think you should have gave up.

This is football....... get over it.

absolutely, i agree that you can blitz him. but teams have blitzed manning before and hes killed them. green bay blitzed, the patriots last year disguised coverages (and pass interfered)

i directed my comments toward thos of you who said things like, i hope someone jumps offsides and knocks out manning. i dont see your team as being the houston rodney harrison's. it is a valid point to ask why your quarterback was still in the game, if your wondering why ours was. the teams that have slowed the colts are either extreamly familiar with PM or they are great defensive teams.

as far as the whole argument that peyton manning should not have passed the ball late in the game, but instead sent edge running into a stacked box. i will give you a quote of one of my favorite coaches
Herman Edwards said:

I wish that the Oilers Warren Moon would have run the score up 60-3 against Buffalo, then perhaps the clock would have run out before they had a chance to come back and win.

I agree with that one LMBH.

I honestly think that whining about Manning's fantastic play is kind of sad.
You may consider it "whining", that YOUR opinion. I prefer to think of it as a critique. The point I was making, which hasn't been invalidated yet, was that it's possible for Manning to have a "goal" of TD passes-per-game that he feels will give him a comfortable shot at smashing Marino's record. Once he reaches that point, he doesn't mind coming out. If it wasn't a "big deal", do you really think Dungy would have pulled him out early since the Texans game? I doubt he did it because of fan or media pressure. IMHO, he (Dungy) did it to lessen the potential hostility generated towards his team...that would be a smart "big-picture" coaching move.

I don't care if it's AFC, NFC, college, or pee-wee league. There comes a time when you call the dogs off, pull your critical starters and let the game coast. This is especially true in Manning's case, given the $$$ the Colts have invested in him, and his criticality to their offensive machine.

Yes, the "easy" fix is to have an effective defense, so that Manning is unable to embarass your team. I acknowledge that fact.

It's not about "fantastic" play....I honestly believe we're looking at one of the finest QBs ever to play the game.
Manning has a gun and can read defenses 'on the fly' like no other QB I've ever seen. How many offenses come to the line with 20+ seconds on the clock so that their QB can make adjustments all the way up till snap time? The man is phenomenal!

Believe it or not, it's possible to feel that Manning is great, AND feel that he should be taken out early in blowouts. If I was a Colts fan, I would be begging the coach to pull him in those cases.

Carr staying in late (in the Colts game) is more a 50/50 proposition. We were still trying to catch up (hopelessly I admit) and keeping Carr in gave us the best shot at doing that. Our primary backup is a veteran player who wouldn't necessarily benefit from having more NFL snaps under his belt.

i was really just mad that texans players were complaining about this. especially dunta robinson who was talking about deserving respect. i especially dont understand it because they did stop manning believe it or not. you picked him twice, which no other team has done. if it werent for the players comments, not many of you would be talking about this. but since some rookie decided he deserved "respect" for not doing his job, it started a firestorm.

if david carr and andre johnson were doing this, believe it or not, id be happy for you guys.

Youngstown Colt said:

That "some rookie" is rapidly becoming a steller performer for our team who may already be a presence in the locker room. And as far as Manning being
classless, I'd already realized the whole Manning crew was pretty classless
when they decided to dis a whole NFL franchise because they decided that baby Eli was too good to play for SD, before he'd even put on a jock and played one down in the NFL. And like I was saying earlier, if one of our guys does bodily harm to Manning while he's in town for the game next month, I'm just gonna grab another can of Coors and gleefully toast the event.

and dunta robinson still has to earn his respect, he doesnt get it from 4 INTs

i actually really like the texans, but people like you will make me take special pride when peyton comes into houston and plays great QB against your team (or as you like to call it "disrespecting") ill be there in person to make it all that much more sweet

everyone is fair game as long as its a legal hit & within the confines of the rules of the game. It would be classless of any team to intentionally hurt another player for any reason. The Kharma of what goes around comes around will be payback enough when the Texans stop the potent Colt offense Dec. 12th.

i didnt know you guys were suffering at 4-4. have a little confidence in your team. and if that 35 point beatdown sent you guys spiraling downward, then peyton did need to throw that many TDs against you.

Exactly right. It's not his fault that he is better than other teams' defense. If you don't like what he is doing take it away from him, but I think the real problem here is that you all know you can't stop him so you are going to make him out to be the bad guy so you can sleep better at night.

Who's crying? I think the Colts have the best QB in the game right now. I think the QB & Coach made a poor choice in keeping the starters in late in a blow out. How pathetic I sound? I don't sound half as pathetic as Colts fanboys trolling on an opposing team's message board, trying to justify a poor choice.

consider it a compliment that dungy didn't take out manning. apparently, dungy thought that you all still had a good enough team to make a comeback on the colts. he didn't feel that same way against the lions and bears. he knew their team wasn't good enough. quit whining about it and realize he did it because he respected your ability to come back, just like you did against the titans.
