For those people who want a franchise back without paying a franchise price... Ricky Williams is available :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
 
Odd as it may sound I suspect that the Dolphins will be attempting to get exactly that (a franchise price) for him when it comes time to see where Ricky's going to be playing next. They may not get it but they're going to want something for him and it won't be a 4 or a 5.
 
Yes... they might want a franchise price, but he wont come close to it because of the drug and the running situtation. They might get a 3rd round for him, and no one is going to pay 1/10th of what he got before... He is too much of a risk. Least in my oponion.
 
its a shame jamaica doesnt have a team.

if williams can convince people that he really wants to play football.. he will get franchise money. hes a freak(in a bad way) but hes not a locker room cancer (as long as he doesnt quit on you) and hes a good RB
 
yeah i dont think they should even let ricky back into the nfl, heck Kurt Warner bagged grocries before he made it to the NFL, Ricky can do it after ! He's to selfish and the coaches wouldnt want a guy like him on the team, he has no class !
 
Ok, so it's true no doubt that if Ricky Williams was without a doubt right in the head and ready to play football AND ready to grow up and get past his weed "phase" then yes he'd be a guy you would want on your team. Monster back who can really effect any game he's in. How in the world could you be sure enough to get in with that though?

What could Ricky possibly do to convince a team, any team much less the Texans, that it's safe to aquire him. How could he, his agent, or any power on earth convince Charlie Casserly that Ricky Williams is the way to go after this year and the stuff he's pulled?

I just don't see it happening here. The guy who could sell the Houston Texans on Ricky Williams could sell ice to eskimos.
 
I dont see him convincing the Texans.. but there are teams out there who could be convinced.. or just didnt care.
 
He'll be in Oakland. I would think that he should be back to himself though, why would he come back so quickly?
 
because of the clause in his contract that says Miami gets to take away all his money if he quits playing for them.
 
Alot of teams will show interest in Williams. Alot. I would love to have him in a Texans Uni. Ok, ok, so he doesnt fit the current team player type. But he is a damn good back. Something we need desperatly. Eventually you are going to have to take a few bad apples with a less than stellar track record. Especially when they are named Ricky Williams.

Looks like Ricky will be available next year. Seems kind of light from the league, but I had a suspician they would be light to get a star back.

As for the Texans, seems as if as a RB (personality aside) Ricky would be exactly what they are looking for and that Ricky would be happy in a more balanced offense where he wouldn't get 400 carries a year. Bet it takes a 2nd round pick to get him--maybe there is even a team willing to toss a 1st. This is one of those deals that fans from lots of teams are going to be very judgmental about saying no way my team should/would ever take that freak--and then after 3 more years of 1400+ yds a year, lots of fans will be wishing their team had him. Everyone knew Ricky was a nut case since college--he panicked and made a freak job decision. Get him back on his meds, have an almost zero signing bonus contract with lots of play incentives and Ricky will be in the highlight reels next year as one of the biggest off-season acquisitions.

Ricky Williams' career as a football player may be over after he decided not to accept a proposal to re-enter the NFL and serve a four-game suspension for violations of the drug policy, according to his attorney, David Cornwell.

Williams is currently on the league's reserve retired list and needed to make a decision by Thursday to try to be reinstated into the league. The league requires players on the retired list to be reinstated 30 days before the end of the season.

Williams met with Cornwell Wednesday night and Cornwell couldn't talk him into seeking reinstatement. More than a week ago, Cornwell worked out a proposal that would have allowed Williams to return this week and be suspended for the final four games of the season.

"Ricky is going to stay on the retired list and I have to conclude that his career is over," Cornwell said.

I wouldn't want to see Ricky Williams in a Texans uniform. No way it would happen anyway. The Texans organization wouldn't pick him up because of his attitude and drug problems. Ricky is all about Ricky.

At some point you have to pick up great players. Yes the Texans would like to just get "good guys", but the fact is, that some of the "bad guys" are more talented than your "good guy."

If you can get Ricky Williams at tailback for you, you do it.

T.O. is all about T.O., but the eagles, and ravens fought over him like he was a superbowl ring.....oh wait....he just might be one.

Uh..isn't that what Miami did? And that really turned out well. Let Ricky roll in his holistic healing trade. I don't want him anywhere near here.

ok, so Ricky didnt pan out. But for two years he gave that franchise a legitimate shot at a world title.

But my point is, you cant steer away from guys like that all the time. You have to have the best collection of players that work together. Not the guys with the most class.
 
The fact that Williams turned down what to me appears to be a sweetheart deal to get his life straightened out tells me that there's no way he'd be worth the risk. It's true that you're almost never going to be able to find a roster of perfect angels to put on the field but you at least want your devils to be effective and reliable. You pick your moments to add players who are "free spirits" and try to avoid the outright cancers as much as you can.

Ricky Williams is not a good risk. Nobody could convince me that he's ready to focus completely on playing football after he turned this down. I believe that the only explanation possible for him to refuse this overly fair arrangement is he has no desire to play football again or at the very least he hasn't enough desire to do it for a team to rely on him.

I couldnt agree more. Now that he hs turned down the NFL's offer to return, I dont think many teams, if any would want him, even if the NFL did allow him back in for the 3rd time.

A player that retires and then comes back, should get his shot, if he is a damn good player. But he is past that now.... Its sad. What a waste of a great ball player.
 
I'm dissappointed in the NFL for even making him an offer. They should have refused to even speak to him or his people until next year. At that time, I would say that the NFL could allow him back, but I'd be dissappointed in any individual team that spoke to him, especially Miami. Just think about how we'd feel if he'd done that to the Texans. He needs to be made an example of. Professional sports, in general, need to make more examples of the screw ups. I guess, after he quit this year, I have less respect for Williams than any NFL player I've ever heard of and, if he comes back, I will inevitably hate the team that takes him. If it's the Texans, it's gonna really mess up my fanatacism about them.

But it doesn't look like he's coming back. Good. I also suspect that anyone who breaks a contract like that is never really going to be permanently straightened up and (I see he's gone back to college) I wouldn't hire him for ANY job at all. Right now, he's just doing something he thinks is fun or interesting. When he gets bored with it, he'll just quit. Then there's the drug problem and, no, I do not believe he's off of drugs, either.

You could say that, but then you look at a team like the Patriots.

They, as a team (players and all), would not let anyone get a big head or over-inflated ego. They truly buy into the TEAM concept as opposed to the individual-great-players-together pov. Listening to interviews with the Patriot players, they just don't let anyone get bigger than the team.

Personally, I think the Texans look at a LOT more than just talent when they evaluate a player, and that is fantastic.

Even tho' T.O. is all that, I wouldn't trade him for A.J. and his future potential.

T.O. - Mr. Mouth - is about ego - HIS.

A.J. - Mr. Quiet - is about the team.

Teams win, and individuals lose....(most of the time!)

Ricky is a kind of person that you will never want to know. He doesn't even deserve to play any kind of football again. He is a HUGE mental case.

Ricky looks alot like Earl Campbell with that beard. Too bad he doesn't act more like Earl.
 
Williams does not want to play anymore (or so he says this week) any team that even thinks of dealing with this weirdo is desperate (see the Bears and the Jeff George signing) :loser
 
I also disagree with the idea that he's minus the franchise price. he may be a headcase, but the Dolphins aren't going to give him up for nothing. There will be at LEAST a few teams willing to bid for him.

It's just not worth it. Although admittedly, it'd be interesting to actually have a running back who doesn't get hurt every single game....

I have to disagree.. Look at umm.... oh crud... I cant think of his name. Someone help me out here... He WAS on the Cowboys until he went on suicide watch or something... (his name on the tip of my tongue and I cant say it). He wasnt as good as ricky per say, but his value dropped like a brick. Sigh.. Can someone help me out with his name, its going to drive me nuts now.

Alexander would be good, but Lamont Jordan is an animal. Thats the kind of back this team needs, and he would be at less of a cost than other FAs. The guy is quick, adn built like a wall. We need a guy that can move, but then get yards after the contact is made. The Edge wont be here, if the bengals were smart they would resign Rudi, Alexander will cost too much, Henry gets hurt too much, Ricky is always on the wacky tobaccy, so I say Jordan.
