Bradford replaced by Armstrong next year?

H-TownRules

Tell me if Im wrong, but isn't Bradford in a contract year next year?

If so, I wouldn't mind seeing him let go. He is too inconsistent and is starting to age.

If that happens, i would like to see Derrick Armstrong replace him. He is a quick playmaker... and when was the last time you saw him drop a pass? I really cannot think of one instance where he didn't grab a catchable pass.

I remember him dropping one. I remember it though because it was an 'oddity' that it happened.

and yes, I think Armstrong will be playing next year and Bradford let go to Free Agency, IMHO.

We have to remember, Bradford is more or less a holdover from the original season in 2002. He has some speed to stretch the field, but has never had the Hands to be dependable. Hence, the reason he is not with the Packers, and Donald Driver is. Same type of player, one just has better catching ability. With Armstrong doing what he does best, catch the ball, look for the Texans to let Bradford go, and get someone in the draft as a true #2, or move Gaffney fulltime to #2, and draft a speedy #3,#4 receiver, who can also return kicks!!! Armstrong will compete for the #3 and #4 positions. It's tough to find dependable receivers, and the Texans will not let Armstrong get away. :hmmm:

Isn't Starling a likely speed guy for the outside? Amstrong has great hands, but not the fastest guy in the world. Makes very good plays acrosse the middle though.

Interesting question. I don't think Bradford's back next year--that seems increasingly obvious. Some of his problems have been injury-related, but if there's any position we could afford to lose a good player and not suffer much, WR is it.

Starling did impress everyone in the preseason but still didn't make the roster. He's back now; maybe he's grown enough in these few weeks to stick for a whole season, but I doubt that. I love Armstrong, but I'd be surprised to see the Texans go into next year with AJ, Gaffney, Armstrong, and Starling as their top 4. That's kinda thin after #2 in terms of NFL experience by 2005. There may be a free agent floating around out there in the offseason who could help as a #3 starter.

Armstrong should be starting now. Bradford has not shown me much this year and I just cringe when i see him in the starting line-up. Armstrong has earned a start imo.

IMO, the only reason Bradford is still in there is that there isn't a homerun threat opposit AJ without him. In todays offenses, it seems like you need a great #1 and the #2 needs to be close to a #1 to keep the defenses from shading over and shutting off the #1 and a solid TE is needed to move it up the middle. With that amount of threat in the basic 2 widout 1 TE set, the defense has to move back away from the line to be ready to cover and then that makes running the ball easier. The question that needs to be addressed in the off season is, can Gaff, Armstrong or Starling be a true #2 with deep threat skills? My suspision is that Starling is the only one with the speed to be able to do it, but may not have the skills (With experience???) If that is the case, we need to draft one or use FA to get one. An FA #2 with low milage will cost some fairly hefty $$$ and a draft guy will take about 2 years to develope. With the need to work on the defense, it looks like we may then be stuck with the ones we have, at least near term (2+years). IMO, we need to hope Starling works out for the #2.

I like Armstrong too, I call him Spiderman, he catches everything. I think he was quoted once as saying "you throw me the ball I will catch it, nuff said".
It also wasnt meant as self serving comment because he also added how is a team player.

i like armstrong better than bradford. i see bradford miss to many opportunities that could help the team, even though armstrong is not fast he always finds a way to get open ! Armstrong will be starting for bradford by next season and bradford will be gone !
